I recently purchased a pair of Moab 3 Mid GORE-TEXĀ® boots for a trip to the UK, France, Belgium and Germany. Anyone that has travel Europe extensively knows the roadways and walkways are frequently cobble stone based or other materials that make walking somewhat difficult and hazardous at times. I had about two weeks of everyday wear to break them in prior to my departure so I was a bit concerned that I might experience discomfort from wearing a new boot for the 28 day trip. After weeks of walking tours, trail hiking in some rainy conditions I am pleased to report that they were the most comfortable boots that I have ever owned. The appearance of the boot was like new after travelling through some difficult and wet weather. I used a small bristle bush to scuff off the dirt and grime and the a cloth to remove the remaining residue. I fully expected to have a blister or two and I did not have a single blister through the tri[p. This is a very comfortable and durable boot and should be on your list of considerations.

I bought these at EMS on April 29, 2022. In 5 months, I only did one actual hike, through the NJ Pine Barrens. The rest has been maybe 2 miles a day walking on sidewalks in flat NJ areas. Yesterday, I went to tie them and the shoelace guide popped off. In addition to that, these are not fully waterproof, as far as walking in heavy rain.I've been a huge fan of Merrell Moabs and have been wearing them since the late 1980s. Over the past decades, the quality has gotten worse and worse. These new Vibram soles barely manage a year, but I could handle that.I have never, in all 33 years, had the shoelace guide come off like this. I adore wearing Moabs for the comfort, but this might wind up being my last pair of Merrell hiking boots.

Iām really impressed with the new Moabās. I had an old pair for the last ten years and needed to update. To start with the entry and exit is so easy. Always a struggle with mid and high boots, but these are so easy and natural. The greatest thing about the Moabās is that they are so comfortable to wear all day and yet great for hiking. I finally got in a rocky hike last week. I found the new Moabās to be a big improvement over the old ones. The soles were supportive, comfortable and I didnāt feel the rocks through them like my old ones. Also great traction uphill and down with no slipping. Very confident all around.Very happy I got these and would give a high recommendation to anyone.

I got these boots as a Christmas gift. It's been cold, so I have only taken them out twice since then. They're already coming apart at the sole, and today both laces finally snapped in half (which made the hike back to my car rather miserable). I've never had an issue with Merrell before, and I've been buying hiking boots from them for over a decade now. But these are garbage. I'm extremely upset that my siblings paid so much for these. They've seen maybe 10 miles total and are in bad shape. I've done nothing different from how I normally hike. I've had Merrell boots go hundreds of miles before showing signs of wear. Not sure if the company has gone downhill or I just got a crappy pair, but it's bad enough that I'm considering switching to a different company for ...Ā MoreI got these boots as a Christmas gift. Not sure if the company has gone downhill or I just got a crappy pair, but it's bad enough that I'm considering switching to a different company for hiking boots. For comparison, my last boots lasted me from 2016 until fall 2022, when the sole started to give way, and I was hiking at least 5 miles a week (probably averaging closer to 8 miles a week) during those years. Only rating 2 stars because they are more comfortable than previous Merrell boots I've had. Just sucks that they haven't held up as long.
I picked up 2 pairs of the Moab 3 Mid, one with Gore-Tex and one without. I had bought a cheaper pair of Merrell's at a discount store years ago and wasn't impressed, but my coworkers swore by the Moab and I decided to give them a try. So glad I did. These were purchased primarily for work, where work is mountain maintenance - dirt trails, erosion ditches, single-track courses, water run-off systems, rocky scrambles - I get through it all in a day. I get a lot of all-weather exposure, too; and sometimes it feels like I see all four seasons in 24 hours. But I'm putting in miles on pavement, mountainside, and at the office for the last few weeks and man, I love these boots. The pair with Gore-Tex are noticeably heavier in hand, but once they are laced up on my feet they don't feel heavy at all. Although I bought the two pair so that I could have hot day and wet day options, more often than not I just end up taking the waterproof ones out on the hill with me. It's so nice to not even have to think about soggy feet and where I'm stepping. I would recommend some upgraded insoles, but the boot itself is just an excellent piece of equipment, and I'm already thinking I will buy them again.Plus they're great-looking. I might have to grab the low-top for excursions into urban settings.
Lifelong wearer of Chameleons and thought I would give these a try. Comfortable out of the box, true to size and look good, but every step I take is accompanied by a noticeable "Thwup" sound coming from the front of the left shoe. The sound seems to come from the fabric at the top of the toe box springing back into shape after being bent when taking a step. I disproved the theory if the sound coming from the insoles by powdering, and then replacing them with a gel insole, but the sound remains. If you bend the shoe by hand, you can hear it from the toe box. My hope is that it will go away after time, but another review I saw said that they still got the sound after a couple of months of wear. It may be okay on the trail, but in a store I announce I am coming to ...Ā MoreLifelong wearer of Chameleons and thought I would give these a try. Purchased these and used them for the first time for exploring Carlsbad Caverns in NM and couldnāt be happier! Hiked over 6 miles in the caverns that day and absolutely no blisters or sore areas on my feet or ankles whatsoever! This is huge for me especially with new bootsā¦needed no breaking in time! Very happy and pleased with my purchaseā¦performed awesomely! It was cool in the caverns (50ās) but my feet stayed warm without sweatingā¦my feet and ankles were not even feeling tired at the end of the day! Thank you Merrell for creating a boot that is comfortable, tough & cool to look at too! Performance is key but I wanted a boot that was stylish as well and I think you achieved that! šš» I purchased the red, tan & black color! Love them!
This is my 3rd paid of Merrell mid-hiking boots. I currently have 2 pair of Moab 2 mid boots, waterproof and non-waterproof, and I alternate wearing them depending on the weather and time of year. I purchased the Merrell Moab 3 Mid Gor-Tex for better waterproofing. While the construction of the boot is excellent, I find that the boot length is slightly smaller than the Moab 2. The bigger issue I have found is the comfort of this boot. My other Merrells were comfortable out of the box. I can and do wear them all day with any issues, not so with the Moab 3. I have been breaking them in over the past few weeks and they are still somewhat uncomfortable. The Moab 3 has a firm foot bed and the liner material is hard and uncomfortable which I think is the issue. I've ...Ā MoreThis is my 3rd paid of Merrell mid-hiking boots. I've compared the 2 liners and found that the liners in the Moab 2 provide more cushioning than the Moab 3 liners. I think Merrell boots are an excellent product in general, I am somewhat disappointed with the Moab 3.
First of all, I have always liked the looks of the Merrell Moab. And I have never had a problem with the shoes being comfortable right out of the box. I hike mostly in redwood forests so there is minimal hiking on rocks, thus I never have an issue with the vibram sole. And I hike 4-5 miles three days a week. My biggest concern is how well the waterproofing holds up. Before I got the GTX boot, I had the "Waterproof" version. And as I have seen in other reviews, and my situation is the same, the "waterproofing version" does not last that long. So I'm trying the GTX to see if the waterproofing will last longer. So right now, I have to give "good" ratings on some of the questions until I determine how well the waterproofing holds up.
This is my second pair of waterproof Moabs. First Gore Tex. My first impression was that they were a harder base insert, but the thinking today that prevails is that our feet donāt necessarily need more cushion. Even the Superfeet sole inserts are surprisingly hard. I have not broken them in on the trail yet, but they are so much cooler than my last pair. I had them on all day for two days out of the box, and I could not believe how comfortable they are and my feet breathe so much better and are cooler in temperature. I wore out my last pair often having to reglue the soles and I am hoping these last longer. Next time up the Mt. Elinor trail or the Colonel Bob trail I may revise my opinion but for now excellent. Thank you REI. Been a member now for three decades. ...Ā MoreThis is my second pair of waterproof Moabs. First Gore Tex.
