Zero break in, all the comfort & breathability. Good arch support. Standard hiking boot fit, if you're wearing the right socks. Wish I bought these earlier. In fact I liked them so much I bought two pairs - one black, one walnut.
Got these to replace some Moab 2's that were earring out. This was the first time I've bought Merrells where the sizing has been inconsistent, and a wearing in period seems wise. The Moab 3's are narrower and smaller in the same size than the 2's, so there's rub points that do not exist on any other Merrell I've worn (and I've had over 6 different styles of Merrells I've worn over the last 20 years). If the Triple black came in wide, I'd have returned them and switched to that, but as it doesn't, I'll see if they stretch a bit with wear. Otherwise I'd need to go up half a size.
Comfortable right out of the box, years in a row of buying this style. Love the colour makes for an easy choice of every day shoe even when not hiking.

I needed a pair of hiking boots to travel with that are comfortable but won’t take up too much room. These fit the cake and being a non-leather, synthetic version of the MOAB. These are better for vegans and more appropriate for Muslim countries too. Absolute must for any trekker and the ankle support for the Mids will put your mind at ease. Super grippy and excellent price.
Sizing is definitely smaller than all other Merrels I own or have owned (>20 over the years). Maybe 0.5 to 1 sizes smaller ? To the point that it’s uncomfortable to wear after a while. Other than that, they are great boots - maybe this pair was mislabeled ?
Light weight and very comfortable right out the box with no need to wear them in.
