The Merrell Moab 3 Thermo Mid WP men's winter boots are ideal for longer expeditions on unstable grounds and with diversified vegetation. When hiking in slightly more difficult cold weather conditions, you can count on these shoes to provide comfortable warmth with their 200 grams of insulation and increased grip thanks to their cleated Vibram IceTrek outsole. Not to mention the waterproof membrane that keeps water out and lets moisture escape, so you stay dry. Nothing can stop you during your winter outings!

I bought these boots to go on a trip to Scandinavia. I have other Merrell Moab boots that I love! However, these did not live up to expectation. My feet were cold the whole time, and I slipped (and even fell once) every time I tried to wear them. I emailed customer service because I felt that thermal boot should keep my feet warm; however, they made excuses saying that their thermal boots are not rated nor are they supposed to be slip resistant. Their inability to stand behind the quality of their product has cost them a once loyal customer. I will never buy Merrill boots again!

These are surprisingly comfortable. I bought the black ones, which look a lot like work boots and not hiking boots. If that is troublesome to you, there are other nature-inspired colors. These are ruggedly constructed and pulling the shoe strings to tighten them is effective. With some shoes, you have to work your way up the front to remove all of the slack. The toe and foot width are perfect for my foot with just enough space to feel good all day with no soreness. The soles are excellent and are not slippery on wet terrain. The size is true to form. My feet are about as average as you can get.The old Merrill’s were tough. These remind me of that excellent quality. I haven’t had them long and will update if they’re not good.

I can always rely on Merrell for their fit and comfort, they usually fit me perfectly right out the box with no break-in needed, and these were no exception. The support and feel is great! For an insulated winter boot, they could be a little warmer, but so far that hasn't been a deal breaker.Unfortunately, mine have started to leak on the outside of the foot at the toes after only a couple of months of normal wear. This has been a disappointment, as I can usually get at least a year and a half before a waterproof boot starts to leak.

Put about 50 miles on them in the mountains of New Mexico this week hunting elk. Performed flawlessly! I had added additional water sealant, 2 coats, because that's what has worked in the past with all my boots. It wasn't wet, so I can't attest to the water protection, but the warmth and durability were perfect. They provided good traction from rocky terrain to dead fall crossings. I would recommend for a hunter/hiker looking for a low cut, light weight option. I still prefer higher cut boots due to the fact I blouse my trousers to avoid weeds and rocks from getting into them, but with gators, it is not an issue.
I replaced my Merrell Moab's bought 7 years ago. The soles are in excellent shape but the padding around the top of the boot is worn out. They are no longer waterproof. I hope this pair last 7 years again...they are comfortable and well made. they fit my orthotics and I can hike many hours in comfort and warmth.
Right out of the box they looked nice and well made. I then swapped out the insoles for my custom made ones then put on and laced up. Upon standing up they had a nice improved feel to them, different than my old ones that are comfy but worn and no longer have the new sole feel. I have not yet tried them out on the trail yet but hope to soon! So far I am pleased with them and as in anything time will tell.
I have several pair of Moab boots and have been happy with the rest of them but this pair has been a problem. They're comfortable for me, as Moabs usually are, but they're not waterproof. They're, supportive, warm (especially with wools socks) and have really good winter-boot traction but they leak like a sieve. I use them primarily to walk the dog in 'suburbia' so it's not like I'm submerging them in ankle-deep creeks or trekking through Zion National Park, but they don't even keep my feet dry in snow & slush during walks around the neighborhood. I've tried treating them with waterproofing several times but it makes no difference. In fact my Moab 2 GTX - best pair of boots I've ever owned at any price point - do a far better job keeping my feet dry, and those ... MoreI have several pair of Moab boots and have been happy with the rest of them but this pair has been a problem. (Not much left of the tread but they still keep the water out.)Only time I can wear these boots is when everything is frozen, which is a huge disappointment for $160 boots.I realize GoreTex is more pricey, but maybe Merrell's proprietary "waterproof" liner just isn't up to the task.
I purchased a pair of Merrell Phasor Peaks many years ago and wore them on endless winter hikes on a 10-mile-long local wooded trail. They always kept my feet comfortable, warm and dry. They were perfect. When they finally wore out, I immediately replaced them with the Merrell Moab 3 Thermo Waterproof, which is a similar model in the current lineup. Obviously, I haven't taken enough winter hikes yet to determine if the Moabs are as durable as the Phasor Peaks, but their performance this winter was fantastic. Merrell makes great boots for winter hiking. I wouldn't buy any other brand.
These boots (MOAB 3 Thermo Mid WP) are perhaps the first ever pair of Merrell footwear that I have been disappointed with. I specifically bought the WP (waterproof) version for my daily walks and hikes through the subdivision and local snow-covered trails. Today, wearing them for only the third time on my morning walk on pavement, albeit though snow and slush, I could feel the top of my toes getting slightly damp. This was like no more than 20-25 minutes or so in. These boots are NOT waterproof. The issue appears to be the textile insert on top of the toes – instead of a one-piece suede or PU leather design, you got there apparent-fabric cut-outs, and since the slush is hitting against the front of the boot, the “waterproof membrane” simply cannot deal with the ... MoreThese boots (MOAB 3 Thermo Mid WP) are perhaps the first ever pair of Merrell footwear that I have been disappointed with. No matter really if it the Merrell-branded membrane or Goretex, they are all similar.I own several pairs of Merrell winter boots, of varying warmth-levels, and the others are all perfect in winter weather. These ones are not. These actually replace a similar pair (with 200 grams of Thinsulate) that I have worn for years and the soles are now almost flat - these have never gotten wet inside. I also have the warmer suede version with more insulation, and a PU leather version with 100 grams of insulation.Having said all that, the fit and comfort are everything I expected. However, as it now stands, I may not be willing to wear my new boots tomorrow unless the damp front inside dries out overnight – so incredibly disappointing.
Same Moab comfort right out of the box. I got these in the mail and immediately work them 6 days in a row on 10-12 hour bushwacks in tough terrain and had no blisters or hot spots. I've got about 20 such days on them at this point and am really pleased.I tend to gravitate to low cut hikers, but with snow or slush on the ground that only works for so long, so I supplemented these Mids with gaiters to get through moderate snow depth, and they worked well. I have only used these into the low 20's F and found that they are warm. In my opinion the waterproof membrane tends to be tilted a little more toward waterproof than breathable- which is what I would prefer for my use. I have not noticed a breach in the membrane yet. Outsole seems fine for a non stealth rubber tread.
