I discovered Merrell shoes 30 years ago with the Jungle Moc. I had never had a shoe fit my foot better! It was like it was made for MY FOOT! Since then all my hiking boots and running shoes have been nothing but Merrells, and I have loved them and routinely worn them out in my regular walking workouts. In 2016 I walked 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago in Spain in a pair of brand new Merrell hiking shoes and I never got a single blister. So of course I was run-of-the-mill optimistic when I ordered the lightweight Moab Speed in my usual size, a 9, to replace the pair of Moabs that had worn out. It seemed a good idea to get a lighter weight shoe. But when they came, what a shocker! The structure, formerly of sewn leather, was now a print. OK. I could get used to that because, yes, the shoe was incredibly lightweight. And delightfully springy underfoot. But it was one of the most uncomfortable pairs of shoes I've ever had! It was not the usual Merrell that felt like HOME as soon as I put them on. Ugh NO! They squeezed my foot crosswise, clearly too narrow and rubbed in places I'd never had a problem with before (the outside edge of my right foot, for example). ! I thought they'd stretch with time so I kept wearing them until awful blisters showed up on my feet FOR THE FIRSt TIME in my history with Merrell. What the heck!? Have they changed the last altogether? On my most recent walk in them I had to take off the shoes and do the last half mile BAREFOOT because my feet could no longer bear the pain! And guess what? I can't return them now that I've worn them. FRUSTRATED and, now, cynical about what to expect from my former favorite shoe source.

The first few miles of the hike were great, while most of my attention was focused on the weight of my pack I couldn’t help but notice how comfortable these shoes were. They were perfect for jumping from stone to stone, stepping over roots and even hiking slightly up a rock. These shoes were incredibly light weight. After summiting to the top of Johns rock the hike and weather went dramatically down-hill. It was storming. At first the puddles were small enough to maneuver around and I even made a comment to one of my friends that my feet were completely dry. but by about 4 miles the puddles covered the entire path. you could not go around them. as i walked through the puddles i ... MoreLast week i went on a two day backpack in western north carolina. These shoes will definitely come along for the adventure. I strongly recommend these shoes for both short, simple hikes and difficult, uphill trails.

My son has adult length feet that have high arches but narrow heels and although he needs a regular to wide fit like I do, his feet aren’t chunky enough to really fill out a men’s shoe so I buy him women's shoes when it makes more sense. He put these on and said that they were extremely comfortable even after a whole day in them the first day. They accommodate his orthotics nicely although he’s actually been wearing them without. They’re his rain day shoes for school and are great for lunchtime soccer on the grass field, and he wears them out in the woods while hiking our dogs. He’s wearing the size 10s and they fit true to size and hug his foot so his heel never slips out.

Great fit. I've done 3 long hikes with them, no breking in needed. It was really hot and humid climate (tropical) and the shoes where not to hot and it kept my feet dry (aside from the sweat evidently). Felt comfortable and secure with the sole on slippery rocks, muddy and sandy terrains. Due to the cusionning of the sole here was no extra fatigue in my feet and joints aside from whatever long walks will do! I usually wear boots but decided on a smaller item for this trip. The transition was not a factor and aside from the ocasionnal ankle twist (a speciality of mine) there was no issue what so ever.
I was looking for a pair of trail runners after a gruelling hike in an old pair of treadless running shoes. my hiking boots were too heavy to be my first choice and I wanted something that would protect my feet from rough terrain. These shoes were comfortable right out of the box. Initially they felt a little loose in the heel but once I laced them up all of the way, they snugged up nicely. These shoes offer nice protection with the rock plate in the sole but are also surprisingly light weight and comfortable. I've been on a handful of hikes including an overnight trip and Ive had no problems.
I want to start that I am a big fan of Merrell and have been wearing their brand for over 8 yrs now everyday walking on cement floors at work wearing the Moab 2 hikers and love them. Thought I would try the Moab Speed just not the same for me. My foot moved around in the shoe so if there is a next time to try these shoes I would get a half size smaller than I usually get. My experience is that Merrell's do not need any breaking in; if they feel good the first time they are good. Unfortunately I took a chance ordering online, but I took a chance on the Barefoot Style Trail Glove 6 and they were fantastic so this style might not have stood a chance for their purpose.
I have been forever looking for a bit of an all purpose travel shoe to meet all my needs without having to carry multiple pairs of shoes with me -- something comfortable to walk around a city, go for hikes, and enjoy a light run in, in addition to looking good enough to wear out and about. I have found my unicorn! These shoes are perfect for everything I could need, and most importantly, they are so, so comfortable. I was really skeptical reading all the reviews that say these shoes don't need to be broken in, but lo and behold, they really don't. These are my go-to shoes, and I highly recommend them.
I purchased the Moab Speed in charcoal/altitude, size 6M. I haven't worn them hiking yet, but my initial impression is Merrell achieved a lightweight hiking shoe by combining the sole of a hiking shoe with the upper of a trail running shoe. The functional tradeoff that results is that you lose weight (yay) and also lose ankle stability. This is adequate for my needs: my personal opinion is that hiking shoes don't offer sufficient ankle stability for hiking anyway, and I purchased these to be worn walking through fields and farms. I can't speak to the durability of the shoe, yet.
I feel somewhat torn about these shoes as they have some positive qualities and other qualities that I don't like. On the plus side, the cushioning in the foot is comfortable. On the negative side, the right shoe rubs against my ankle and I don't know whether I can overcome that.I bought these particular shoes because they have a rock plate in them. I wanted the extra protection for my left foot after an injury a few years ago. However, the plate does not seem very effective as I can still feel a marble under my foot. Disappointing. Customer Service explained that the plate is only intended to prevent a stone from piercing the sole. I feel a bit skeptical about that. Finally, the toe box could be roomier. In summary, the shoes are reasonably comfortable, except for ... MoreI feel somewhat torn about these shoes as they have some positive qualities and other qualities that I don't like. had to return these shoes ... i have another pair of this exact model & size that I bought last year that i love & fit me perfectly (I am still wearing them regularly). i wanted to buy a second pair before mine wore out so i ordered these in the same size. but the fit is completely different ... they are now narrower, shorter in length & the toebox seems lower too. they were horribly uncomfortable so i returned them. by the way, i then ordered the Moab Flight and they fit just right & i love them! so if you hate the fit of the Speed, try the Flight, you might like those better - they seemed to be much roomier.
