First off, THANK YOU Merrell for offering wide widths. I don't know if people are just ok with jamming their feet into unnaturally shaped shoes or if I just have wider feet than most. But, I need wide shoes comparable to what's being sold by these big companies. Starting to see a lot of natural style splay shoes being offered but they're still few and far between. These Novas are simple and get the job done. They have solid tread that work on pavement and trails. I've taken them on 3 mile sidewalk runs by the house and also up elevation on loose trails. The one thing I wasn't crazy about is the height of the platform. If you have weaker ankles or tend to roll ankles on trails or sharp turns, you might want to brace up. These soles feel a couple mm too high for an ideal trail running shoe but they're still right up there with every other high end trail shoe I've tried (Hoka, Topo, Altras), but these have the edge due to their accurate size and generous width. Will likely buy the ankle high version and also try out some proper hiking shoes in wide.

did 40 mile section of the AT, the Maryland section. Very rocky. Unfortunately, the tread tore a little the side and eventually would have fallen off completely, I could have glued it and probably been fine but I returned for something more rugged. However, I am considering getting another pair of these and just being more cautious about sharp rocks. These were super comfortable and breathable and better than any other nike or Adidas running shoe I have owned. I did not feel the rocks. I had no blisters. Also, I was able to slip in and out of the shoes without tying them. I normally wear size 10.5 in non hiking shoes and the 11 fit perfectly.

After hours of reading reviews, reddit threads, and other first-hand accounts, I decided to buy these for my SOBO hike on the John Muir Trail. I paired them with Superfeet Trailblazer insoles and could not have been happier with the choice. They were excellent through all 211 miles. I don't think I ever lost footing and they were comfortable and stable on uphills, downhills, and even the dreaded ankle breakers. I cruised through the entire trail in just 12 days because of these. Would 10/10 buy again.

Nova 2 Wide (JO35561W): Same high quality product suggesting durability, and long wear. There is an inner stretch band that makes the fit both slightly snug and comfortable at the same time. Heel & soul have a heavy tread that portends durability and traction. Not long ago purchased a similar Merrell shoe (JO36305W), same size & wide. It fits a bit looser than the Nova 2 and consequently I think it will give me a longer wear. My wide foot pushes out the sides of the shoe, and in the case of the softer fabrics my toe will find a way to create a hole at the side. That's my only concern for the Nova 2. I rate this a 4.5+, and would recommend for anyone with a not so super wide foot. Two Merrell recommendations. 1) Show the name of the shoe on the inside label. I was looking for a lightweight, breathable sneaker for summer and found this on the clearance rack at a local shoe store. They’re the perfect choice—way better due to the rugged Vibram sole than a quick to wear out sneaker or running shoe! From the Merrell website, it looks like this shoe may be discontinued. If so, that’s really too bad. I’d definitely buy another pair and recommend the model to anyone else who needs a lightweight, very good looking, super comfortable, and rugged (at least it appears to be—I’ve only worn it a few days) summer shoe.
I have owned many different Merrell shoes over the years and have always been happy with them, but these are the best. I needed a non-slip sole specifically for a trip to Ireland, plus a waterproof version since it rains a lot. Both versions are fabulous. Great grip, really comfortable, and a perfect fit. They worked great in Ireland and on the trails at home. I have another pair that is mostly for work, but I wear them whenever I can. Highly recommend them.
I have worn Merrell shoes and boots for years and have always just worn regular width. But, as I have gotten older, I have found that my feet have changed. especially if I am on my feet for a good length of time, my feet swell and pretty soon, in regular width shoes, my toes are cramped and I am uncomfortable. These wide width shoes have solved those problems! They fit well and have the usual good Merrell support and cushioning, but now with the extra space in the toebox and the rest of the shoe, my feet are very happy! :-)
Merrell makes a great quality product but unfortunately this one just didn't fit me correctly. I found the uppers to be really comfortable, but the insoles are fairly flat with little arch support / contour. I also found the rear ankle area bulky and awkward feeling. Also, the color on these is much darker than shown. These are nearly black. I would have kept them if they had fit me, but I was surprised at how dark they were compared to the photos. Overall though, if they were a good fit for YOU they're probably a great shoe.
I have had several Merrell shoes, and all performed very well. This set is the worst and cheapest design I’ve ever seen. The soles inside won’t stay in place even while walking a couple feet. I’ve contacted Merrelll a dozen times to get replacements and they flat out won’t support their products.I’m disgusted with their brand and Dicks Sport Goods now. Truly a disappointment from what they both used to be.
I had a hard time getting the sizing right for this shoe. The non-wide was very narrow so I had to order the wide from the website. I'm usually a 10.5 or 11 but after 3 orders, the 10 wide fit best. I had these for 2 months and put about 100 miles on them before the inner treadwall on one of the shoes became separated from the shoe and the inner heel cushioning totally collapsed, causing me to walk very unevenly. Merrell stuck to their warranty and gave me a credit but I've switched to a different model with a different sole and foam. Too bad, because it's a really nice looking shoe, especially in the olive green.
