The shoe that truly got me back into long distance trails, it felt like a slipper you could feel everything and the overall design looked amazing I went through 1500km in my first pair before they couldn't go no more. I'm originally from nz so these shoes come late and leave early so I had to improvise and try and find somewhere that will ship to nz even at a ridiculous cost. The knit 4 looked like it was the pinnacle of pinnacles but alas Noone would ship it and I never got to experience it's brilliance. The trail glove 5, not as good as the 4 but a solid shoe. I went through 4 pairs each doing somewhere between 1000 - 1200kms before being retired to walking shoes these shoes took me on ultras with no worries and interested looks from other runners. These stayed on shelves only a little longer then the 4 before the 5 came along. The 6 was a disappointment the tread design was interesting and the lace up system changed and increased pading and stability wearing them in was painful compared to the others, my first pair only did 300km if that before being retired due to the tread being ripped off from the usual trails I took my 5. The living systems on the 6 was difficult to get into even when worn down. They fit down a size compared to the previous but overall I tried to like them. Now the 7. I didn't even know they released a new version as nz dosnt even know cause we just got the 6!! Reimagined design, tread similar to other barefoot on the market. Support gone... it looks almost like the trail glove 4 knit.. could it be. No a massive disappointment so much so that I went and got another 6!! Ste toebox is a swamp I have to go down 2 sizes to try and make it fit nicely the tread slips and slides on all terrain cause the shoe doesn't mold nicely to your foot it's like a oversized diving shoe that's filled with water. I guess I'll have to wait for the 8 but the way they're going merrell might just cut the shoe from their line up and I'll have to find a new barefoot shoe.Just bring back the trail glove 4 you know every trail glove lover will buy several pairs to last them a lifetime.

Back to barefoot basics!

Merrel goes back to barefoot basics with the TG7. Wider toe box allows for natural toe splay. Heel is locked firmly in place with no slippage. And best part—they got rid of the arch support! Your arches flex naturally in this shoe. The TG7 sole is too thick and stiff for a true barefoot shoe; but I’m willing to trade a little sensitivity for greater sole protection. (I’m a weekend warrior with tender feet. I trail run and hike in mountains and hills with lots of sole-bruising rocks and roots on trail.)

Fit is not so good.

Just got these shoes in and have been wearing for a few days. Better than the Trail 6 which I could not wear. I wanted a shoe like the Glove that could be used for rougher surfaces. The arches are not as pronounced and more like their Vapor and traditional Merrill designs. However the sizing is a mess. The arch fits well (11), but the toe area is massive and is too loose to wear without tightening up the front which changes the fit to become more uncomfortable. If the toe were a bit more snug like their other shoes I think it would be a slam dunk. You can see how it compares with my vapors.

Great comfortable shoe
13 April 2023

I have only had these shoes for a little over a month. I bought the 2nd and 3rd (I think) generations of the trail glove and liked them. Then they were getting pretty poor reviews so I stopped buying them. I decided to give them another try and glad I did. These are very comfortable and just what I was looking for. They are not minimalist like the older ones, but still very light and minimal over all. I think I actually prefer these a bit as my feet don't get as tired as they did in the earlier gen ones.I would probably pass these up if you really want a minimalist/barefoot style shoe. However, if you want something close but with a little more cushion and all-day comfort, these might be for you.

Great shoe. Merrell is righting the ship!
12 February 2023

These are solid! I would technically give them a 4.5 out of 5 because the Trail Glove 4s were my favorite iteration of the shoe and deserve a 5, but these are definitely a step back in the right direction from the TG6s. Probably more support and less toe space than a "true" barefoot enthusiast would want but still an excellent shoe for trail runs if you step on a root or large rock. Full disclosure, as much as I like these they aren't getting a ton of use because my feet have become healthy/strong enough for the vapors full time. I'll review those as well for reference!

I am biased toward Merrell
18 May 2023

I have never purchased a pair of Merrell's I didn't love. I have two pairs of Black Vapor Glove 5 I use for cycling. They are fantastic and so are the Trail Glove 7 Trail-Running Shoes. The Trail Glove 7 Trail-Running shoes have a heavier sole and weigh 448g (about 128g more than the Vapor Glove 5.)These are durable and comfortable. I use them for casual wear, and they look good and feel good. If you are interested in a barefoot running shoe these are a good pick; however, for exercise I prefer the Vapor Glove series.

Narow unnatural toebox, overpriced beach shoe.
18 May 2023

I just wanted a thicker sole Glove Barefoot shoe than luna glove wich is wonderfull.Too narrow in the toes, my toes want to go out of the shoes. Forces my foot to "slip" invard. Stupid modern back of the sole that sticks out too much. Narow barefoot shoe is kind of an oxymoron. I want trail glove 8 to snug my heel and go wide in the toe area like vapor glove 3. It looks and feels like an overpriced beach shoe. A big flops for me. An average shoe. I have expected much more from this online buy. Kind regards.

Narrow toe box
12 May 2023

Well constructed and great looking shoe. The heal lock feature keeps your heel in place and feels great. Just enough cushion to protect your feet, while providing feedback from the ground. The only drawback is the narrow toebox. I am a size 9 and tried both the 9 and 9.5 but the toebox was not wide enough to provide natural movement of my toes. (My feet are not very wide either.) Unfortunately, I will have to go to another company for wider toebox shoes.Merrell team, if you fix the toebox issue, you will dominate the barefoot shoe market. I have seen many reviews on different online platforms and they all say exactly what I am saying. Hopefully, you can include a wider toebox when you design the trail glove 8.

Perfect for trail and everyday.

These shoes are outstanding in every regard. I am planning on buying 2 or 3 more pair before they design them into obsolescence. I replaced my old minimalist shoe with these due to painful heel and arch strikes from roots or rocks. When I run, I place the majority of my weight on the balls of my feet and toes followed by a gentle heel landing. I only run trail never hardtop but dont see a problem for anyone wanting to run them on asphalt or at the track. They have plenty of cushion in the heel and arch but not so much as to alter the geometry of your foot. Cannot say enough, these are awesome.

Seem good, Sizing Way Off
25 March 2023

I've ordered like a dozen Merrells. I always get size 10s and they always fit great. This is a new product and I searched reviews trying to see what people said about sizing. There were a couple that said the sizing was way off, but probably 90% of people that said it was true to size. It's crazy that 90% of people are just cool with walking around in clown shoes. These are at least 1 size too big. Maybe 1.5 sizes. I got a size 9 (usually wear 10) and if I was able to try these on at the store and not deal with a third return I would maybe get an 8.5. But the 9 fits well enough to not bother with it.I can't believe it's so far off. It's very strange with sizing having been so consistent in the past.So idk how to rate this. Easier to rate well if you can try on ... MoreI've ordered like a dozen Merrells. I always get size 10s and they always fit great.
