At last a comfortable fit

Since childhood I have had difficulty finding shoes that fit my wide feet. This problem has been exacerbated since the pandemic with its supply shortages. For a couple of years now I have been searching for a pair of sturdy, reliable walking shoes for my 6.5 EE feet. I was thrilled to see these on the website, and so I ordered, two, not just one pair in size 7.5 Wide. (I always size up for athletic shoes.) These shoes offer excellent support, and wearing my orthotics along with the inset provided seems to give me even better support for my arches. The toe box is surprisingly wide enough to accomodate my feet with their squared toes. I am looking forward to receiving my second pair, as these seem to be absolutely perfect.

I rarely write reviews of any products I buy . But my Merrell Moab2 Ventilator ( Wide) shoes are truly the most comfortable walking/ hiking shoe I have ever worn. I have the world’s worst feet. I have bunions, Morton’s Neuroma, ramifications from a broken toe, and issues from a broken foot. But my husband and I love to walk and hike . I bought my Merrells for a recent hiking trip to the Olympic Peninsula. The tracking on the bottom of the Moab 2 Ventilator allowed me to walk with ease on wet slippery, trails and climb over enormous rocks and logs along rugged beaches. The shoes stayed completely dry and my feet never hurt which never happens!! I absolutely love these shoes !!

This shoe fits fine...however, I feel I am walking on concrete. If you see my photo you will notice the black insole is what you get in the new shoes. The top insole is from my 20-year old Merrell shoes. What a difference in the thickness at the foot of the insole. I shouldn't have to replace the new insoles with 20-year old insoles because they are more comfortable than the newer, more expensive shoes. And, I should not have to spend an additional $20 for a decent pair of insoles in order to walk in a new pair of shoes. Product development needs to make some improvements. I don't even know what insole to buy in order to replace the new insoles in the shoes. Shame on you product development. I would recommend the shoe. Maybe if you are 20-30 years old, you can tolerate walking on concrete, and this might not be an issue. I am 70 years old and value my feet. I don't go barefoot any longer but I am very fit and do a lot of camping, hiking, and boating. Just beware you may have to buy other insoles. This doesn't change my feelings on the shoe. I love Merrell shoes and will continue to use them. I am just not happy with having to spend more money on better insoles.

Great supportive and breathable shoe
3 May 2022

I initially purchased these shoes as I wanted low and supportive walking shoes that were breathable and not waterproof because in the warm Australian climate waterproof shoes make my feet hot and uncomfortable. These shoes have kept my feet happy and ventilated - as I've used them for daily walks around the neighbourhood and bush walking on the weekend. They are very supportive, and whilst they have a firm sole this actually saves your feet from getting tired on rough surfaces. It's true that they are reasonably heavy shoes, and you're not likely going to want to run in them, but they serve a purpose with the support they offer, and the capability they provide on rough surfaces. The sole has excellent grip, except on wet-surfaces where they are very slippery and ... MoreI initially purchased these shoes as I wanted low and supportive walking shoes that were breathable and not waterproof because in the warm Australian climate waterproof shoes make my feet hot and uncomfortable. These shoes have kept my feet happy and ventilated - as I've used them for daily walks around the neighbourhood and bush walking on the weekend. This slippery sole is because they have a Vibram sole which most hiking shoes have and tends to be marketed as a good thing, but I have had many shoes with Vibram soles over the years and they are all deadly slippery on wet surfaces.Overall I recommend these for supportive and breathable hikers - these aren't many hikers out there that meet these two criteria.I am just about to buy my second pair of these shoes after using them daily for 18 months. The wear after this time is loss of fabric on the inside of the heel, and wearing down of the sole.I have been very happy with these shoes.

Mixed feelings
9 January 2023

I like a lot of things about these shoes - Moab Ventilator 2 - they are good looking, feel very sturdy, have a ton of support, and a good sole. But they don't fit as well as I'd like. I came back to make sure I'd ordered the regular width and not the Wide, which I did. But the right shoe feels at least a half size larger than the left - and my right foot is my "bigger" foot. I've been trying on the right shoe in any pair any time I went to a shoe store, for my entire adult life. This is the first time I've ever run into my right foot feeling like it's slipping around in a shoe while my left foot is happy and comfortable. I did buy online after hearing some really good things about Merrell, but I think I'll have to go to a store if I ever purchase this brand again.

Moab2 very different than Moab
13 April 2022

I have had several pairs of Moab waterproof shoes over the years and have always gone back because of great fit and comfort out of the box and excellence on the trail, The Moab2 has been disappointing in terms of fit. On the good side, they are waterproof. In the past, I have had to return Moab Waterproof shoes because one of them (left) had a gap in the waterproofing. This was the case 2 or 3 times, but always the next pair was fine. With the M2 wo, both are waterproof as judged by walks in the rain and small puddles. However, the fit is uncomfortable. The tongue is very uncomfortable across the top of the foot. Also where the web attaches the tongue to the shoe., it is difficult to push it into a position that is at all close to comfort. Additionally, at least so far, it has been impossible to tighten the laces enough at the toe, causing foot aches after walking due to insufficient support in that area. Perhaps they will soften over time and be able to be tightened better, but after 3 weeks of walking for an hour or two daily, they have not yet improved. Finally, where the laces tie together, at the top, if they are tied at all tightly, it is uncomfortable. As far as traction on wet rocky trails, I don't know yet as I have only worn them so far on sidewalks and beach. The old Moabs had excellent traction, so perhaps these do too. However, so far they are uncomfortable.

My First Moab comfy but a visually thick design
1 September 2022

I've worn Merrells for years and loved how it specifically addressed the way a woman strides. I usually purchased Sirens because of the rolling support through the arches. This time I tried Moab because it offered a wide in my size.It fit well and I didn't have to break them in at all. Very comfortable. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because I don't prefer the thick tongue and heave look of its styling. None-the-less, it's an excellent walking shoe, I will only purchase wides in future. Thanks for offering them Merrell!

Solid Trail Shoes

Nice rugged soles with vibram technology. Traction was very good on gravel walkways and paths. I felt confident walking along trails with these shoes. Comfortable and for most, the footbed is roomy to ensure one’s toes splay comfortably. I wear a 5.5M and bought a size 6 in granite. You don’t want your toes to hit the top of the shoes. I won’t know if these are waterproof until I encounter rain and/or puddles. None so far, so that is why I am rating it a 4/5. I hope they last more than a month as some reviewers commented that theirs started to fall apart very quickly. I would recommend these assuming these shoes are made well. They appear to be. Worst shoe I have ever gotten from Merrill!
9 August 2022

I got this shoe about a week ago and I am so disappointed. For over 10 years I have only ordered Merrell hiking shoes and have even purchased this style before. I have always been extremely satisfied. They have always been so comfortable right out of the box. I ordered my usual size 8M, but this time the shoes were wider across the front. I thought they would be okay with a thicker sock so I wore them on a 6-mile hike. Big mistake! They were so big and every stone hurt my feet so badly. It felt like the sole of a very cheaply made shoe. The laces would not stay tied even though I double tied them! Waste of money and I am afraid to order from Merrell again. Prior to this pair I had purchased another style. They fit really tight. I thought that was a fluke, but now I ... MoreI got this shoe about a week ago and I am so disappointed.
