Received this saw and it took about an hour to set up. Setting everything correctly does take a bit of patience, but if you do it before beginning to use it your cuts will be good. Once it’s done it is an excellent saw for the price. The soft start makes cutting a lot easier, it does take a bit of time to get the fence to lock correctly, done by adjusting the locking nut on the end on the fence until it locks the front just before the back. After doing several test cuts on some off cuts I had it proved to be very accurate, I then did the cuts I needed and after several minutes had cut a sheet of 12mm ply into accurate consistent pieces for some shelves for my workshop. Used today for 1st time. Blade noisy to start but stops very quickly. Cuts very well straight out of the box. Fiddly getting gate parallel but now have the hang of it. Chunky and well put together plus easy to clean with shop vac.

The saw cut really nice and clean , although we’re you tie up the cable is very poorly made , too soft rubber , I’ve used my saw about six times and the cable tie up has already split . The blade guide fastener keeps coming loose on start up which is a bit of a pain. Apart from the two things it’s a great saw .

Good and solid quality, minor issues with accuracy

Just got to use this saw since a few days and I am really impressed. The overall mechanics of table and legs is very good. The mitre gauge is generally good, but an additioanl alternative with a straight bar is recommended when cutting with 90 dregrees, as the 45degree cut on the bar of the of the provided one makes it a bit dangerous cutting small pieces, as the support is not so good. The mitre fence is quite good, providing a solid lock, it just needs control measurement to make sure it really locks square. The provided 40teeth blade is a very good starter blade, as it allows for quite smooth cuts of timber. A higher teeth blade will be useful for cutting across the hardcore side of timber. The weight of about 32kg is rather high when using it as a site saw, walking up narrow stair cases. But for longer transport, the attached wheels make the weight irrelevant. All the described features are quite up to and even more what one can expect for a saw in that price class. It is also worth noticing that Metabo did a gread effort to improve the saw, as compared to the previous model it has a transparent blade protector and also does not need an extra hose to extract saw dust from the blade protector, and the screw to raise the blade has been made more solid then the fine-threaded one used before. The only thing beeing disappointing is the fact that when adjusting the blade to exactly 90degrees, it is not possible to adjust the ruler accordingly, as the arretation lever is a bit in the way. So one has to remember how to read the scale (cannot move the line straight in center). But overall, I am really pleased with that saw with all its features. Time will tell how good the long-term reliability is.

Huge saw with great build quality

For the value, it is a great unit. It is big which makes working much easier. Also controls are precise.Only wish was if it could have some easy disassembly for storage or transport.

Powerful, solid, it simply works very well

A good compromise: an absolutely professional-level machine at a fairly aggressive price point. It simply works perfectly well: is powerful, right sized and easy to adjust in every detail with the provided tool or even without any tool at all (e.g. for the riving knife). It is also rugged and robust (mounted on a solid steel tubular frame not on a plastic box, like others similarly priced) and easy to transport. Obviously it shows the cost-cutting efforts: the coating of the table surface seems prone to scratching and I would have loved a “rack and pinion” system for moving the fence keeping it parallel to the blade (like on the DeWalt 74..). Finally, a big, red, mushroom button or a switch cover-lid system for stopping the engine would have been a much better solution than the one adopted here by Metabo (a red OFF button, near the green ON one, same size, just the red slightly elevated). But all together, it delivers any kind of cut in a simple and efficient way. A great table saw!

I have done little more yet than unpack and quickly check my Metabo TS254 saw. However, it really was just a case of unpacking it, learning the main features so I could put it in place - no setting up to be done - and make a practice cut. So in terms of 'on receipt' experience none of the problems I read about with some other saws, where users reported out of alignment problems or difficulties in putting a saw together. I am so impressed with the design, and how the table can so quickly be put to use.Much of this I was expecting from my research of which table saw to buy, so this was in one sense simply confirmation that I had chosen well. However, what I had not been able to assess so well was that so compact a saw could offer such a generous work area! However, now that I have moved it a few times, I have learnt this is partly a matter of technique - knowing how to get hold of it. I am finding it easier than I did the first day, and perhaps I prepare myself better, now I know what's coming! I must also say that the weight is only what I should have expected of such a well made table saw.

Worth the money

Great but for the odd part. The rear table extension is only 1.2 mm thick so my one buckled when placing the saw down on the rubber feet, I put it down on a slight angle. Flimsy for everyday use. Picture after trying to straighten with a pliers.
