I just recently purchased a 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports and love the bike. These tires came OEM on the bike. At first I loved them, their grip was great on both wet and dry pavement, the little bit of time I spent on gravel they seemed to provide decent grip as well as cleared the gravel well, there was minimal road noise and they were just predictable. If you flicked the bike any direction it was smooth, consistent and they didn’t slip even at steep angles in the twisties. Then I hit 1k miles…Allow me to start by saying I live in a very rural section of Washington where the roads are seldom straight and follow the rivers, mountains and ravines. (Shameless plug, if you live in the Pacific Northwest, you should definitely ride out through the Columbia River ... MoreI just recently purchased a 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports and love the bike. (Shameless plug, if you live in the Pacific Northwest, you should definitely ride out through the Columbia River Gorge, it’s beautiful!). All of that to say, my riding is not flat straight interstate riding of the Midwest or Southern Cali, it’s much more well rounded on tire wear (pun intended). With the amount of twisties that I go out of my way to enjoy I was utterly shocked when I began to develop a significant flat spot on the center line of the rear tire at just 800 miles. The flat spot came on so suddenly and exaggeratedly that I actually pulled over on my way home from work as I thought my rear tire may have been getting low on air causing it to flex (again… at just 800 miles!). Now at just over 1500 miles the flat spot on the tire is nearly 2” wide and rocks significantly when cornering past that point, which is concerning and a bit spooky at 75-80 mph in a tight turn with a cliff on one side. In the wet it will actually scoot your rear over about an inch or so as it rocks over the ridge and essentially loses grip.As they begin to wear the road noise goes from barely noticeable to WTF is that sound? When my Sena dies about all I can hear is the sound of these tires even with the wind going by my helmet. For my money, I will be replacing this with a set of Anakee Wilds as they have the dual compound rubber for a much more resilient wear pattern on the center of the tire with the softer rubber on the outside to still provide the grip when you need it and a much more even wear pattern.Features: 4/5Pros:- Has great grip and profile when new- Clears gravel and debris from tread- Aggressive enough tread to perform decent for mild off-road (unimproved, dirt, gravel, fire roads, etc)Cons:- None of these matter after the first 1k miles…Style: 4/5I really like the style and tread pattern of the tires. They’re both effective and look greatGrip: 1/5As noted above, the grip is initially fantastic, but as soon as the wear pattern begins to set in, that grip vanishes when you need it most (hitting corners at speed) because you’re not rocking over that transition on the tire.Tread life: 1/5I honestly would have expected much more resilience out of these tires, especially at the price. Considering they’re the same price as the Michelin Anakee Wilds, which perform nearly identically to these in new condition on the street and in mild off-road but wear exponentially better I can’t imagine ever buying these again or recommending them to an enemy.

Loving the Karoo street tires,on my Bmw 1250 Gsa for one month. Excellent ride in dry and wet conditions. They're replacing my Karoo 3s, much quieter. The 3 was a good tire just a short tire life. Hopefully I'll get more life out of the street.

First of all, the grip of these tires is excellent. They glue you to the road, corner very well, confidence inspiring. I had 2 straight days of hard rain and was very impressed with the wet grip in the twisties. I was cornering hard at 60-70 mph in the rain.I have a set of the Karoo Streets on my ’16 BMW GSA. I run 36 psi front and 42 psi rear. I have just returned from a road trip from Southern Utah to the Canadian Rockies and back. I now have 5000 miles on these tires. The rear is shot and the front is looking fine. I was worried at 3000 miles that the rear wasn’t holding up well and almost stopped in Boise on my way home to replace. The majority of the miles on these tires was cruise control at freeway speeds and then plenty of twisties around the lakes in southern British Columbia. I have about 200 miles of off road use on them. The front tire got loud after 1000miles. At 70-80 mph on the freeway it sings to you. I could hear it thru my headphones and music. It sounds like running a wet finger around the top of a wine glass.I have taken them off road on trails in southern Utah when I first had them installed. Mainly hard pack, shallow sand and gravel roads. No mud. I was impressed with the grip and they inspired more confidence than the stock Anakee 3’s. I kept pressure at 36F 42R.Would I recommend these tires? Yes... I was looking for a street themed 60/40 V rated tire that also performed well off road. I read many reviews and was waiting for the Karoo Street to launch. I wish the rear wore better, but know my bike is heavy and hard on tires. The first 2000 miles on the rear tire wore down fast and I wouldn’t off road it if I had more than 3k. I wish the front tire wasn’t noisy, strange that it started at 1000 miles in and hasn’t let up.All in all, this is a great 60/40 tire that feels like a street tire in the twisties and the wet and has good dirt grip too. The rear wears quick and is shot at 5000miles of mostly highway cruise control.

2007 R 1200 GS- 6 ' -6" rider- 250 lbs- Only 50 miles on the tires. Notice tire noise at 30 MPH but not annoying ( low tone and disappears above 30 MPH). A Little more effort required to turn the front steering wheel, had Tourance tires for years and those are effortless. Karro street Tires in the gravel are noticeable better with traction. The tires are also more forgiving over bumps or things like railroad tracks as they absorb the shock (didn't expect that as it is a good thing).
I have had this tire on my front wheel only for the past 1,000 miles. It has performed well so far and I plan to replace my current rear Bridgestone Battlax with a Karoo. That said, I found no ill effects of the Karoo (front)/Battlax (rear) combination for my riding style. Results may vary based on your riding style! I have many twisty mountain roads at my disposal, and the Karoo sticks very well on pavement and so-so on dirt (as is to be expected from an 80/20 type pire). I ride 90% street and 10% off street in a dry warm climate. The off-street riding I do is limited to mostly fire and forest service roads. I cannot speak to longevity of the Karoo, or its wet condition performance. I will update this review a few thousand miles down the road.
I just used the Metzeler Karoo Street 70/30 front and back on a 8 days / 4300 kms wild/remote adventure motorcycle ride across the Trans Labrador. Used them on 3 days of pouring rain and 500+ kms of dirt roads (dirt, loose gravel, mud, ...) and they performed better than expected in those extreme conditions, riding between 60-100 km/h. They performed extremely well on dry and wet pavement, and cornering roads like the Cabot Trail flawlessly.
I don't understand the purpose of these. The came stock on my '23 Triumph tiger 1200 rally explorer. They seem to be trying to be a dual sport tire. But they aren't aggressive enough for anything more than mild gravel roads. But nearly any tire is capable of that. So not much offroad competency. That's the trade off, for on road manners right? Youd think. Within 1700 miles, the rear is flat spotted and center line of the tread is gone. The thread feels as bouncy and vibey as actual offroad oriented tires. Not great on paint lines, and like ice on tar snakes. Literally, even straight down the road it's like you're riding across snow. Most of those miles were breaking in the motor. Nothing overly aggressive, loaded up, highway trips, etc. They did have good grip on good, smooth pavement. No wet riding so i can't comment on that. But, worst of all, the horrible ringing resonance from 62-80 mph. Nearly unbearable with my quiet Schubert helmet on AND ear plugs. No way you could highway ride without earplugs.(there was a good amount of grumble at lower speed i didn't notice as much, but now is apparent since i swapped tires) I plan on riding this adv bike just like my last. Plenty of gravel roads, camping trips, BDR's, etc, but lots of highway getting there in between living in the midwest. Disappointing triumph put these on. For as poor of road manners and wear, they might as well have put the actual Karoos on and had decent offroad performance. I couldn't take running these anymore, they're going right in the trash. I've never pulled tires off any of my bikes before these. I could possibly put up with them through the season without the ringing, but they made me not wanna ride my new bike.
2017 BMW Scrambler 1200I just replaced my Karoo Street rear tire after just over 5,000 miles. It's shot, flat, down to the wear bars. The front is still looking great.I left Seattle, WA for a 1,300 mile trip down HWY 101/1 along the Pacific Coast. I encountered rain, sunshine, gravel roads, dirt trails to secret free campsites, sand in Coos Bay, OR, and the tightest of twisties on the 1 in Northern California. Even after 4,000 miles, this rear tire got me through 25 miles of the roughest roads I've ever ridden to a place where I camped out overnight. No Joke, this is hands down the best tire I've run for all conditions. It grips like velcro in the twisties, on wet pavement, soft sand and gravel, just a great all around tire.My last tire was a Metzeler Tourance and before that the Karoo 3.
DISCLAIMER: This is a review for the rear tire only. I had a nearly new Bridgestone A41 on the bike before leaving for a trip so I ran that on the front with the Karoo on the rear.Put one of these on the rear of my '15 Super Tenere before heading to Utah from Illinois to do a bit of light BDR-type riding. Performance wise, the tire did everything it advertises. It was very planted and stable on the street and on twisty mountain passes. I hit some rain and very cold temperatures going over the mountains in southern Colorado and the rear never slipped or wobbled. Felt planted on the edge of the tire, too. Off-road it gripped well enough for the type of riding I do (not too fast and staying on maintained dirt roads). I hit limited sand and mud without much problem. Off-road it gripped well enough for the type of riding I do (not too fast and staying on maintained dirt roads). I hit limited sand and mud without much problem. I never noticed any degradation in the performance as the tire wore. It squirmed a little on grooved pavement but I feel that's expected. And wear it did. 700 miles of interstate riding at 80MPH on the first day nearly burned all the way through the longitudinal sipes on the center of the tread. Wear slowed as I got off the interstate and started using two-lane highways and, eventually, some dirt but the tire was still completely squared off and the center sipes were gone by day 4. After 3,900 miles in total I'm about 3/32nds from the wear bars.I wish the tire had held up a little better because I was very happy with the way it performed otherwise. But on my heavy bike with a weeks worth of camping supplies and running at higher speeds it just didn't last as long as I was hoping. But if you're riding something lighter or going slower, I'd give these a shot. As stated, it performed as advertised.
First off, because Metzeler said it was a spin-off of their Tourance NEXT tires I was very sceptical of how these tires would hold up (read RevZilla's revues on the Tourance NEXT TIRES). with over 4,000 miles on the Scorpion Street tires they look about half worn which is a big improvement over the Tourance NEXT tires.I'm using these tires on the Yamaha 1300 FJR ES because past road experiences where the pavement ends and the dirt/gravel begins, in this use, they do well but not to be pushed, in the rain the do very well, and they are very sticky. If you ride with OEM recommended pressures, the tires will wear down the middle (over-inflation). If you ride at 20/20 PSI, the tires wear on the shoulders (under inflation), so somewhere there has to be optimal tire pressure that allows the tires to wear evenly on both centre and shoulders of the tread and extend tread life.Would I recommend these tires, Yes
