What technology does it use in its construction? Michelin's Protek comes off the shelf in a Standard compound focusing on longevity and performance, teamed with a their Protection casing reinforced 3x30TPI carcass. The 1mm protective layer to the crown delivers effective protection against road debris and foreign bodies during daily use. What is the intended use? Designed predominently as a city tyre, the Michelin Protek excels across a range of paved surfaces and light off-road terrain like hardpack trails and loose over hard roads, in both wet and dry conditions. The E-Bike ready tyre features a reflective sidewall strip aiding visibility in low light and a progressive sipe density design offering excellent wet grip, whilst robust enough to tackle undulated off-road pathways. Our verdict A fantastic replacement and upgrade to your City or Sport bike, unrestricted to paved surfaces allowing your adventures to go further, beyond the tarmac.

My local bike shop put some of these on one of my bikes a few years ago. Since then I got kitted out with my own bike tools and bike lift and do all my maintenance myself. These tires are a great combo of grip, decent rolling resistance and price. I love the reflective side walls as well. I have only really worn out one tire since then. The several others I’ve bought have all been terminated by Montreal’s ghetto street conditions- so I can’t blame the tires.

Took longer than expected to despatch. So long in fact that I ordered a repair kit for original tyre. This also took longer come than expected but arrived the day after and worked. Fitted the new tyres and inner tubes to check correct fit and left them on. Price was right with good reviews and they are Michelins - both tyres and tubesOnly had one short trip on them on variety of road and track and they performed fine. Hoped for a further ride but that cut short due to my sons bike picking up a puncture! That is what happens this time of year when the Devon Banks get cut. New pair of tyres for his bike too.

I average 800-1,000 miles a month on my Ghost Urban Square 2.I got about 1-1/2 months worth of riding on this tire before the sidewall tore and I ended up blowing my tube.I will note that the item # that I purchased was 1163700002, but the price was the same. This may or may not be a replacement. Either way the tire rode nice but I agree with handle CSCe on rotating the tires. I also noticed the rear wear down quicker than the front.I will rebuy this item due to price point. I also have to note that the reflective strip is a plus since I also ride in the evening and well into the night. The picture posted was after I had replaced the tube from getting a blowout.

Easy to fit. Smooth comfortable ride. Trusted brand name. Appears to give good grip on the wet. Excellent price and quick delivery. Couple with Michelin Air Stop tubes and you will not regret the purchase.
Heaver than some tyres, as expected and seen in the spec. Also wider than I expected, despite purchasing my usual 700 x 38c size. The slightly higher air pressure than I'm used to may have something to do with this?? Good rolling resistance however. Grip is generally good, even in frosty conditions and over some manhole covers, but oddly I've found that they slip on some wet cobbles. Still very early days, but they have survived my feeble attempts at avoiding potholes, shrapnel in the road and the like.
I have a 700 series bike as well as the 26" which was a mountain bike but I put these road tires on it. I like the 26" tires better than the 700 series. They are lower and wider thus more stable. There might be slightly more rolling resistance than the 700 series but I think its worth it for comfort, durability and control. As far as speed, the top end might be slightly higher on the 700 series because they are taller and skinnier but look at the bell curve, most bikes will go in the middle ground most of the time. Top end only a small percentage of the time right? So I liked these tires because they work in the majority range of speed and road conditions. Michelin is a top name brand too so this gave me confidence to buy them. The only downside is that they are 1.4" wide which I found to be an odd width. The tires themselves were hard to find. No local shops had them in stock so I had to buy them online. I had to get tubes that went from 1.2-1.75 tire size. I also put another layer of rim tape to assure max safety to the tubes, the 3rd downside is that they are expensive in comparison to other tires. This is why they lost one star. I hope they will last.
This is a superb Hybrid Tyre, i ordered the 700c x 38 along with the air stop inner tubes, tyres went on my 29er rims well, they are a directional tyre so make sure they are fitted with the correct rotation. On first ride coming from my nobbly mountain bike tyres they are very smooth , i can really feel the lesser rolling resistance and made the cycle journeys easier, the tyres have a 67psi max and i use them at 60 and the ride is superb. Thse are by far the best commuter tyre for the bargain price these are at on Tredz and the free delivery from tredz was also swift and they came via TNT
My requirement was for a tyre that would provide winter grip and the reviews for this one promised just that. The problem was that how could such a low priced tyre be any good? They arrived rapidly, fitted with thumbs alone and ride really well with that promised grip. They also look like they’ll be puncture resistant enough without sacrificing feel. Same usual great price and service from Tredz.
After almost a year of purchasing one tire as a replacement, and another as a replacement, I finally have been able to have a complete set of this particular tire on my bicycle. That is the only reason why it took me so long to provide a review for them. In that time I found them to have decent traction and road holding capabilities. The anti-puncture protection layer on the tread proved to hold up quite well over various surface conditions around the SF Bay Area and prevent most punctures. Still no match for a nail though:) See photo! The only drawback I experienced is it wears down quite fast. I believe others have had this same experience on the propensity for the tread to wear down too fast. Of course it did not help to prolong the life of the tread when I would ... MoreAfter almost a year of purchasing one tire as a replacement, and another as a replacement, I finally have been able to have a complete set of this particular tire on my bicycle. Over the years I slowly migrated to Michelin tires on all of my cars. The only rival I found was the Goodyear comfort tread.... Also an awesome car tire. I am slowly changing all my bicycle tires to Michelin.. They cost 20% more but last 40% longer. They give a confidence feel around turns... Bicycle or car. The feel like soft rubber not like cardboard... Not boxy. Michelin bicycle tires mount on the rim easily because of the markings on the side wall... Making them easy to center. For me...They have been consistently less problematic than other tires... Like Kenda, Bontrager or Contenental; which occasionally mount with a wobble. In the end they are cheaper, faster, quicker and easier. I have been buying bicycle tires for the past 30 years...
