This is the protek MAX with the 5mm belt, not the protek standard, I suspect there is confusion between the two because since switching to the Max a couple years ago I have had zero flats even in winter when the streets are full of glass. I find the belt effectively stops glass fragments and I have pulled fragments out of the tires with no loss of pressure. On the other hand I wish they were a bit more sticky as even with caliper brakes I can easily put the bike in a slide if streets are wet. Overall the puncture resistance and affordability win out for me.

These are the best tires I have ever used for riding my MTB on tar. They are superior to Continental Sport Contact which I always used to buy. The puncture protection is good - I have pulled thorns out of the tire with the tube still in tact. These tires are fast and the reflective strip is great for side visibility. Unfortunately they are not available in my country and importing from Germany is a hassle.

After 5 years of use (avarage use, 90% asphalt, 10% dirt, always stored indoors) the front one is still at 100% usable but it might be time to change it in the following months. The rear was swooped after 3-4 years of use. Grip is just fine as long as you don't think you are Rossi. It never felt slippery. On rain or old super smooth asphalt at reasonable speeds, panic breaks or above its top rated speed (60km/h, I went 66km/h) followed by intence breaking, the front tire lost its grip only ONCE. Resently I was going 20+km/h on a sharp turn on a mountain road with VERY smooth asphalt and some and some pine needles, and I didn't even fall. It found its grip again very fast and I managed to stay up. Also, it was proven to be impossible for thorns to puncture it. It found its grip again very fast and I managed to stay up. Also, it was proven to be impossible for thorns to puncture it. Saved me a lot of money on tubes. But you pay for it in weight. About double the weight of a normal tire. A pair of these will add about 1Kg to your bike compared to regular tires (though you may not care about 1Kg). Also the gyroscopic forces are much higher. At speeds above about 50km/h it's weird when you try to turn the handlebars. Though, I don't know how often you will need to turn while going faster than 50km/h, I never have. TL;DR If you have problems with punctured tires, and you don't want to go crazy fast, this is a very good choice. But if don't care about an unbreakable tire, go with something else.
My go to tire for light commuter bike, they are grippy in the wet and when braking, give plenty of confidence, haven't had any puncture yet despite running them at relatively low pressure for comfort.
Compared them to my Schwalbe Marathon Plus and they appeared like they would work well. They installed easily, cornered well but unfortunately the do no wear well. After 1000 miles on the back of our tandem the wear lines are showing already. I understand that tires wear fast on tandems but one should get more miles on a tire. I get 2000 + miles on the Schwalbe rotating them after 1000 miles. Did not have the opportunity to rotate, the rear tire is shot. The front tire looks great.
They reached me yesterday, despite how long the alarm system has taken they have arrived light. I have not assembled them yet, but just by touching and looking at it you can see its quality. The page is great and 200% reliable. Thanks bikeinn
Like the extra puncture protection, which (touch wood) does well with the grotty roads and flinty trails around here. The tyres were delivered unfolded in a cardboard box, which I was glad of.Fitting was a bit of a challenge as the tyres were very tight on my 28" wheels.
Been using these as semi slicks on a vintage 26” Kona AA. Been great on dry tarmac and shallow gravel. Grip on corners is great, they are 1.85 wide and I run them with tubes at around 32 psi with a tube. Have never punctured and only shown wear after 2 years steady use.
Over the years I slowly migrated to Michelin tires on all of my cars. The only rival I found was the Goodyear comfort tread.... Also an awesome car tire. I am slowly changing all my bicycle tires to Michelin.. They cost 20% more but last 40% longer. They give a confidence feel around turns... Bicycle or car. The feel like soft rubber not like cardboard... Not boxy. Michelin bicycle tires mount on the rim easily because of the markings on the side wall... Making them easy to center. For me...They have been consistently less problematic than other tires... Like Kenda, Bontrager or Contenental; which occasionally mount with a wobble. In the end they are cheaper, faster, quicker and easier. I have been buying bicycle tires for the past 30 years...
