This laptop is perfect if:* You want a larger screen computer but don't want to lug around a brick. This is a sleek yet solid machine, and it only weighs 3.4 pounds. It's a mobile, easy-to-carry big screen laptop.* You're using it primarily for word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing, email, presentations and other routine office functions. It's not ideal for heavy-duty video editing or gaming.* You want a solid, upper tier laptop but don't want to pay premium prices for the more upscale Dell XPS 15-inch or a 16-inch MacBook Pro.My wife has a hybrid work arrangement, splitting her time between ... MoreWe needed to replace my wife's aging Surface Laptop, and without hesitation we opted to stick with this model -- although we switched from black to platinum. So, she needed a workhorse laptop that also wasn't going to be like carry rocks in a bag. This laptop has been ideal.I was concerned about the AMD Ryzen chip. We've been Intel and Apple silicon loyalists. But this chip has been a revelation. It's been quick and easily able to handle the workload.I'm sold on Surface Laptops.

Honestly this is a nice laptop works great no issues with the laptop until you have to charge it. Right out of the box i needed to get the charger replaced within the 1st month. Then about 11months after that and now we are looking at ordering another charger... so aggravated! My brother has same laptop and says charger only lasts about 1.5 years on average before needing replacement so it is either a common issue or we just so happened to get the 2 worst of the lot!!!! Never again... i'd give zero stars if i could. Not to mention the argument with BestBuy itself when i tried doing a return in beginning bc i was barely past the return date and Microsoft would only send me a replacement cord for the 1st time!

Cons: I am enjoying my MS Surface Pro 7 tablet/ laptop. For a start I am outside on a very bright sunny day writing this review. Apart from the shiny, touch screen, I can clearly see the screen. Something my Lenovo could not do. It always went black. Unfortunately, all touch screens are shiny. It is very responsive and i5 processor is perfect for my non-gaming lifestyle. It is the perfect size for travelling and the excellent, magnetic keyboard makes it the perfect communications medium wherever you might go, safely, that is.The keyboard backlight lights automatically when light levels are poor. It is also very easily attached /detached.However, I did find that when using the the Pro 7 as a tablet the on screen keyboard is quite intrusive. However, I did find a hack on a MS forum that suggested going into device manager, delete the keyboard; go into windows updates and install all updates; restart and reinstall the keyboard driver (mine did this automatically) and all should be fine. I haven't haven't had ANY problems with the charger since.

I am an active duty military member and I bought this laptop in order to support my job, teleworking, and college classes. It worked great. I could do everything I needed to and more! But! After only 42 days!!! It stopped working and would not take a charge. I called Microsoft Tech Support and did all 3 steps of their trouble shooting and told me I needed to send it in and they would send me a refurbished laptop. After having a 1200 laptop for less that 1.5 months, I was going to get a refurbished laptop?! That can’t be right. So, I went to best buy. They looked at it and said they would have to send it off to be looked at. Geek Squad can’t even work on these! They would have to send it to Microsoft and then I’d STILL get a refurbished laptop. After more than 6 ... MoreI am an active duty military member and I bought this laptop in order to support my job, teleworking, and college classes. Instead I am forced to get a refurbished one. In addition, I am forced to buy a new laptop in the meantime to accomplish my school and telework.
I bought this with a slight crack in the screen. Its invisible at almost every viewing angle I use. I can only see it when opening the laptop with the screen at like a 60 degree angle with the keyboard. The laptop itself is sleek. Almost too slim. If you wanted to impress people, clients or future employees, having this sitting on their desk would do it. I loaded fortnight and played with no lag. The fan runs a lot with gaming. I dont plan to game on it, just wanted to test it. I went from a surface book 1 to this. The surface book 1 is still pretty good just the processor is getting old. The sound quality, camera and casing are great the screen on the surface book 1 is still just as good as this after 5 years. So I bought Microsoft again Because of that. I just didnt want a 15 surface book. Also, this 15 laptop is not that much bigger than the 13.5 surface book. It is metal, so its heavier. Keyboard is as good as surface book as well. These devices are worth the prices new, so getting them used in good shape is incredible.
I have been looking for a good Windows laptop for many years, different manufacturers, many returns to Best Buy. I wound up switching to Macbooks because although the laptops I had been been buying had some of the features I wanted, most of them let me down with crappy trackpads. Seemd no Windows laptops manufacturers could rival the almost-alien but exceptional palm-rejection of the Macbooks. I have very big hands and I couldn't find a laptop with a trackpad with palm-rejection good enough where the cursor didn't bounce around as I typed. Until now. Also the feel of the trackpad surface feels like Gorilla-glass-- a very smooth, responsive, comfortable experience.Although I think this laptop is probably a little overpriced, what you get for the money is a ... MoreI have been looking for a good Windows laptop for many years, different manufacturers, many returns to Best Buy. Also the feel of the trackpad surface feels like Gorilla-glass-- a very smooth, responsive, comfortable experience.Although I think this laptop is probably a little overpriced, what you get for the money is a fantastic experience. The touchpad is a class act-- like my Macbook Air-- no unintended movement-- rock solid. I know Microsoft is competing directly against the Macbooks in this category, and that stiff competition forced them to produce this marvelous machine. I grew up with Windows machines and preferred them because there are things about the Mac operating system I can't seem to get used to. Finder in Mac OS confuses me and when I save a file I can't often tell whether I saved it to the computer or the cloud or some weird limbo area I can't see. And I hated the fact that you can't close an app on the Macbook by clicking on the red X-- it's still running in the background. But because I couldn't find a Windows machine as well built as the Macbooks, I put up with it. I'm so glad to have this machine now. The taller screen is great for my writing, and has beautiful colors, easy on my older eyes even with the resolution lowered. I am a big stickler regarding keyboards--and the feel of this one is perfect- even better than the Magic Keyboard on the 2020 M1 Macbook Air I sold. Some have described this keyboard as mushy. I don't feel that-- I feel it's got just the right amount of comfortable feedback that makes you WANT to type on it. And the fact that it's backlit is the icing on the cake. The laptop is quiet-- I don't hear the fan much except if I'm charging it and also downloading programs at the same time. The 15-inch size is perfect for my large hands-- they aren't cramped or make me feel like my left wrist is going to fall off the end of the wrist rest, like some other 15.6 inch laptops with number pads. I do miss having a separate number pad, but it's ok-- Macbooks don't have it either.I got the Microsoft Surface 4 rather than the Surface 5 -- I wanted the one with the Ryzen 7 processor because battery life is more important to me, and Best Buy is still selling them new. But performance is great-- never had any lagging with any of the programs that I run. I'm not a gamer so having integrated graphics is fine for me too.Seems with the Surface Laptop Microsoft made the laptop with the hardware meant to showcase the Windows experience, where the hardware works well with the software and doesn't get in the way. So I just want to say, Good Job, Microsoft. This is how Windows computers ought to be. Other Windows laptop manufacturers can take a page from your book because some of us DON'T want to compromise. If I find I don't use the Macbooks any more they'll go up for sale, as I may be back to Windows for good. If you want a Windows machine and you can afford a Surface Laptop-- figure out which one you need according to the specs, and buy it. You won't be disappointed.
The trackpad is stiff, the design has somewhat of a cheap feeling (mostly plastic), and the charger feels weird. It’s hard to plug in due to its awkward shape. I use it for work and it’s gets the job done but it’s not something that screams desirable for personal use. Also the keyboard does not feel very high quality (my “O” key was super stuff when I first got it, but I think it was abused by previous owner). So in conclusion, it’s an okay laptop but it doesn’t make me feel special. Comparing this product to a MacBook Pro is not even fair although they have same product placement in market. I guess if you are obsessed with touchscreen computer, it’s a better option than Mac but I honestly don’t see anyone tapping on laptops so I don’t know why Microsoft pushes ... MoreThe trackpad is stiff, the design has somewhat of a cheap feeling (mostly plastic), and the charger feels weird. This is an excellent Windows laptop. It is reasonably fast and has more than enough memory for my purposes. (I tend to have way too many browser tabs open and apps running at the same time. This machine seemingly does not mind my slothful ways.) The screen is quite sharp. The keyboard is excellent. I tend to leave the machine attached to the power supply, so battery life is not a big concern for me.
This laptop is the closest thing you'll get to a mac without being a mac. Build quality is superb, only thing I wish I had was a slightly bigger trackpad. I had a dell 9510 but had two defective units so I gave up on getting one and started looking for something else. People like to get caught up in ram and performance, etc. Honestly, for everyday use you'll never be able to tell the difference. I mostly (90%) use it for watching movies and surfing the net. I have the AMD version 8GB. Laptop works great, can't tell a difference in speed at all. This laptop is super light weight compared to other 15' laptops. I love the 3x2 ratio. Charges up super quick and then battery really does last long. I'm probably getting 12 hours on a full charge and it seems to take 1 hour to get to 90% (if you're not using the laptop while it's charging). The specs may not be as impressive, but do I regret my purchase.....HECK NO!
I love and adore this laptop so freaking much. My previous laptop was a HP Pavillion 15" and this one is above and beyond miles better! The speakers are really nice and clear even at the highest volume level. While this laptop is not cheap; Best Buy often has discounts making this laptop more affordable than buying it directly from Microsoft. If you are debating between buying this and the Surface 5 I would recommend you get the Surface 4 instead. The specifications are nearly identical but the 4 has better battery life is lighter than the 5.
