A crucial addition to the Surface Pro 9 "tablet"

These come at a cost of $280 additional which drives the total cost above many of the competing integrated laptops, which admittedly do not offer the touch screen capacity. The keyboard is sturdy and affixes securely to the Surface, and utilizes the kickstand whether you have it on a desk or perched on your knees. The is a generous trackpad, and has a full row of function keys at the top. Just beneath the lower edge of the screen is a magnetic hinge that covers the storage and charging slot for the stylus. It is light in the hand, comfortable to use, and has two push buttons to switch commands. I found the stylus as a handy tool for noting changes or add annotations, without having to move the cursor to that spot. It shown as an input for Microsoft's One Note program. The only significant con in the usage was that, unlike my MacBookAir M1, which cost around $1000, when typing in low light, the lack of a backlit keyboard was quite a nuisance. The number of typos soared. A keyboard addition to an iPad made by Apple similarly lacks a backlit keyboard (and also lacks a trackpad) but is cheaper than the Signature Keyboard. There are aftermarket keyboards that do have trackpads for an iPad Pro, but I am unaware of those having a lighted keyboard.

Yes it adds quite a bit to the cost and I wish Microsoft would sell this for lower or better yet just include it with the Surface Pro as it really is a must have accessory. The problem is later you are going to want it so if you can, try and get it at the sametime. This is typically not an accessory that I have seen discounted so I don’t think waiting will save you any money. This keyboard is just a perfect match for the Surface Pro. The trackpad feel rivals those found on other higher end thin and light notebooks. The Surface Pro Signature keyboard also looks and feels good and doesn’t add any additional bulk. My only complaint is that in an earlier model for an older Microsoft Surface I had, this model is missing the keyboard backlighting. Not sure why that was removed but that doesn’t take away from the overall function and utility this adds. The Surface Pro Signature keyboard has very good build quality and you can expect many years of service with it. In fact my earlier model outlasted the actual surface I purchased with it which I finally had to retire when the battery failed. Not having this keyboard will be a companion that you will miss right away. There really isn’t anything else like it to round out the Surface Pro and should be the number one accessory you should buy when purchasing a Surface Pro.

The Surface Pro Signature Keyboard is an excellent accessory to the Surface Pro and makes using it a much more enjoyable experience. This keyboard is relatively straight forward when it comes to use on the Surface Pro. I am using my keyboard with the Surface Pro 9. It uses proprietary connectors to attach to the Surface Pro and holds itself with a magnet so it doesn't just come apart. Once attached to the Surface Pro, it will automatically fold over the stylus pen to keep it secure. The stylus is attached by a magnet as well and actually holds in the pocket pretty well. The pen is battery powered and the stylus pocket charges the pen when not in use and the keyboard is turned on. It is very precise when touching the screen and tracking is quick. The rest of the keyboard essentially is like any other keyboard. The keys are responsive and have a nice press to them. It is very sturdy and well constructed. The touchpad is a standard size and clicks well. Tracking is also accurate on the touchpad. One of the main things to remember is you will need to push the Fn key and the F1 key to wake the keyboard up and power up the stylus. However, pushing it again does not power off the keyboard and it will stay powered up until you shut off the Surface Pro. I do wish that it would have an off button. When closing the keyboard over the Surface Pro, it turns into a really nice folio case and screen protector. Again it is a solid design and provides great protection. Overall I highly recommend getting this keyboard for your Surface Pro. With it providing a keyboard, mouse, stylus, and Folio case, it is hard to pass up and makes life much easier using the Surface pro.

A necessary addition to the Surface Pro
25 November 2022

This keyboard and pen are almost a required addition to the Surface Pro! I am used to using a Chromebook as my ultraportable device, so if I had to use this as just a tablet, I would be very uncomfortable! Screen Cover The keyboard acts as a very good cover, snapping on and off very easily as needed. The ability to hide the pen when not needed is awesome as I was used to being able to keep my pen tucked into the case on the Chromebook, so was worried I would lose it if it didn't attach in some way. The material is very comfortable, I only hope it lasts since it is also very porous so I expect it will attract the oils and dirt from its environment. The magnets click in very well and give it a strong attachment to the tablet. The multiple magnets allow it to conceal the pen, giving the keyboard just enough angle to type comfortably. Keyboard The keys work very well - even sitting on my lap I can type easily. The keys themselves feel very responsive, much better than I anticipated given their very small height. I use the ten-keypad on my full size keyboard often for entering grades, so I miss it but there is just no place to put the keys on this compact keyboard. The backlight is very handy when using it in lowlight environments, and I didn't even notice that feature for a while! It has several brightness settings and the labels on the keys light up as well, making it very nice. The multipoint touch features are very useful and can be programmed if you need something other than the Windows default settings. I can see myself spending a bit more time here as I get more comfortable and find other uses for this feature. Pen The pen works very well with Microsoft Whiteboard, making this a perfect replacement for my actual board in my classroom and allows me to save notes and drawings for later. The buttons are very handy for launching programs or making selections without putting my hand back on the touchpad or screen. Conclusion The only thing I have been annoyed at is the size of the right and left- click areas of the touchpad, they seem to take up over half of the touchpad area, so I am constantly right-clicking on things with my thumb instead of selecting them! I'm going to have to work on getting it a little closer to the keys, which is not currently a natural feel for me. Overall, I am very satisfied with the keyboard cover and pen as they make an almost necessary addition to the Surface Pro 9 I just got. Together, they make a very capable and portable machine for my classroom use.

A worthy accessory investment

If you are using the Microsoft Surface Pro 9, run out to the store and pick up the Signature Keyboard with Slim Pen 2 immediately. Don’t bother to order it online unless you can get it shipped that same day. It is a game changer for the 2-in-1 laptop if you want to do any serious typing. That is because a keyboard and pen are accessories that do not come in the box with your purchase of the Surface Pro 9. The Signature Pro keyboard is specifically designed for the Surface Pro, so you know it will fit and connect effortlessly. Even better, the pen recharges in the tray when you are not using it. The Signature Pro keyboard is specifically designed for the Surface Pro, so you know it will fit and connect effortlessly. Even better, the pen recharges in the tray when you are not using it. The pen stays secure and that is a huge priority for me. My last tablet had a pen that was housed on the outside of the keyboard making it easy to fall out. As such, I lost it once while traveling. Replacing the pen was so expensive. When open and in use, a small section of the Signature Keyboard folds over the pen tray trapping the pen so it cannot fall out unless you drop the laptop/keyboard. Microsoft listened to feedback from users when they developed this option. I connected the keyboard before I even powered up and it was not recognized during my initial computer set-up. To troubleshoot, I ended up removing the keyboard and re-attaching it while also rebooting the computer. That worked like a dream! The Signature Keyboard is not as large as my laptop full keyboard, but it is still a full mechanical keyset with backlit keys and a large trackpad. I found the key positioning comfortable, and it comes with the quick keys I use most frequently though some are in a different spot than what I am accustomed to. Once I had set up the Surface Pro 9, I was prompted to calibrate the pen and was asked to indicate whether I was left- or right-handed. As a left-handed person living in a right-hand dominated world, it was so nice to be treated like a first-class citizen and have my experience optimized! The keyboard is attractive, sturdy. It has the appearance of a fabric exterior, but it isn’t which means it is easy to clean the fingerprints, dust, and crumbs. What I don’t know is if the separate Signature Keyboard and separate pen are identical to this all-in-one keyboard/pen purchase. If they are, it would be smart to check out the prices for each and buy the cheapest combination since items do periodically go on sale.

Essential accessory that's very pleasant to use
28 November 2022

The surface pro keyboard in my mind is an absolutely essential device to get the most out of the surface pro 9 tablet plus it actually feels very nice to boot. To start it has a very nice textured feel that's different between the bottom side and the top side and when docked with the tablet makes the whole package seem as an integrated unit. Typing on the keyboard feels very similar to typing on other premium laptop keyboards, actually maybe even a little better. The key size is at just the right shape and height, not too big or small. I appreciate the media controls on the function keys as well as the integrated backlight for the keys which is amazing and much better than the backlight on some of my other laptops which fails to start properly half the time. The trackpad itself is very nice. Easy to use and smooth operation, absolutely no issues with it. The keyboard also comes with the surface stylus and has a little cradle for the pen to charge in and you can orient the keyboard to even show the cradle or tuck it in for super clean look with the tablet and to keep it safely stored. This is forward thinking function and design and though I really haven't any use for the stylus as of yet, 3ds emulation with the touch screen on the surface pro comes to mind. The only downside I can say of the product is that it shouldn't be an optional accessory by default and should automatically comes with the surface pro tho I could definitely see having it be available for replacement or maybe a different color way. Other than that though, I've had a fantastic experience and Microsoft really nailed the design of the device here.

Great addition to the Microsoft Surface 9 Pro
9 December 2022

First impression: My first impression of the Surface Signature Keyboard with the surface Slim Pen 2 is that it really is a signature keyboard and pen. This is the kind of keyboard/pen set I would expect for a tablet like the Microsoft 9 Pro. The magnets that hold the keyboard to the tablet and the pen in its slot are very strong, and the magnets that hold the keyboard closed are very strong. None of these inhibit using the keyboard but do a good job of keeping it where you want it. The pen is charged while sitting in the holster, and if you put it in backwards, the magnets will flip it over to make sure it is in correctly. The pen is charged while sitting in the holster, and if you put it in backwards, the magnets will flip it over to make sure it is in correctly. Specifications: • Alcantara cover: Very comfortable for the wrists, and the outside gives the Surface some grip. • Weight: This keyboard/pen combo only weighs .65 lbs., helping the surface to keep a lower overall weight. • Bluetooth 5.0: Automatically connects and provides a very responsive keyboard/pen. • Right click button: You have the option of using the 2-finger right click on the touchpad but having a dedicated right-click makes using it a lot easier. • Tactile signals for the Pen 2: You can configure tactile response on the pen to give you the timing and intensity you desire. • Keyboard is a screen protector when closed. Setup: There really isn’t any setup unless you have the fingerprint reader. You lay it out and place the Surface Pro on it. The magnets grab the keyboard and hold it in place, and that’s it. You can configure tactile feedback of the pen in Windows if you like, but it is optional. Performance: The keyboard feels really good. I am a fast 2-finger typist, as long as the keyboard keys aren’t jammed too close together. These keys are spaced perfect for me, they are large enough to hit the correct key, and the feel of the keys are perfect for a keyboard like this. The keys have a light resistance, but do not bounce when typing fast. They are mechanical keys but feel more like chiclet keys. I really like this keyboard. The touchpad is called a “glass trackpad,” and for good reason. When using the touchpad, it feels like your fingers are riding on oil. It is so smooth that there isn’t any drag like on a typical laptop touchpad. I'm sure they’ve had these for a while, but it’s the first one I have used, and I really like it a lot. When using gestures with the touchpad, it is very accurate at knowing what you are attempting to do. The only thing I usually use is the one or two-fingers for a right click. This touchpad hasn’t messed that one up yet, even when I did. But if you don’t like having to use the a finger right-click, this keyboard has a dedicated right-click button to the right of the touchpad. Again, another feature I really like. The pen is also a Bluetooth device that charges in the pen holster and offers up to 15 hours of battery life. It has a top button, a side button, and eraser functionality. It also provides Haptic feedback. One of my favorite features is the little red dot on the screen to show where the pen is going to touch. It’s like a laser target. This is perfect when doing precision work. The shape of the pen also makes it easy to hold and use the buttons without the pen moving or slipping. Conclusion: The Microsoft Surface 9 Pro is a very powerful tablet. The Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Keyboard/Pen for Pro 9 turns it into a powerful laptop/tablet hybrid. Both the keyboard and pen operate wonderfully and makes using the Surface an enjoyable experience. The only con I found is the price, but to me it’s worth it. There are other keyboard options available for a better price, but none of them are specifically designed and integrated into the Surface the way this keyboard is. If I am going to pay for the Surface Pro 9, I’m not going to skimp on the keyboard. If you have a Surface Pro 8 or 9, and you want to add a keyboard/pen to it, I highly recommend the Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Keyboard with Surface Slim Pen 2. It is the perfect companion to the Microsoft Surface Pro 9.

Great design with pen cradle
20 November 2022

Reviewing this keyboard with a Surface Pro 9. The Alcantara surface is my favorite part of the keyboard. If setting the keyboard all the way flat, it feels very wobbly, but folded against the bottom lip as this is the intended use feels very solid. The trackpad is fine, wide enough; not the widest trackpad but it's fine. Clicking requires a bit more force than other tablets but is fine. Typing is comfortable with island keys with enough travel. They're backlit with three brightness levels. Putting the keyboard flat reveals the thin pen. The cradle for the pen also charges it. This is leaps and bounds improvements over the older pens. The pen's tip is removable, and there are sensors on the tip itself, so getting new tips won't be as simple as in older models. The ... MoreReviewing this keyboard with a Surface Pro 9. The control button is right where one would hold the pen, and the top is an action button that is configurable for one click, two clicks and hold action, with vibration feedback from the pen. As mentioned, to recharge it just simply put it back on the cradle. No more sticking the pen to the top of the tablet. Overall it's a great keyboard. I previously used the keyboard for Surface Pro 4 and while the keyboard itself is similar, the pen design, which now comes with the keyboard, is the best.

It goes hand in hand
7 December 2022

You can’t really pick up a surface without getting the keyboard attachment they go hand in hand much like peanut butter & jelly. I mean you could technically have either or but they just are better together. :::General Impressions::: The surface is a solid product that is well made and it has gotten better with each iteration. The surface keyboard is nothing short of amazing itself. What is so amazing about a keyboard? Well for starters this one isn’t like all the others. This is something that I believe you have to see to believe. I honestly didn’t think that a keyboard attachment would be something that I would see as necessary. While it is true you could use alternatives, I must admit there is nothing like Surface Keyboard. This is something that I believe you have to see to believe. I honestly didn’t think that a keyboard attachment would be something that I would see as necessary. While it is true you could use alternatives, I must admit there is nothing like Surface Keyboard. The Alcantara is smooth, soft and feels good on your fingertips. The keys have plenty of spacing, they also feel springy enough to be able to type relatively fast. You will find traditional functions on the F keys such as backlit keyboard toggle. I was surprised to see a backlit keyboard on this keyboard and it works really well. You can set the backlit keyboard to low, medium or high or just turn it off altogether. You have a few volume control keys and brightness control keys as well. The trackpad is large enough and has left and right click functionality which is a plus. It is responsive and not sluggish which is greatly appreciated. The keyboard also functions as a sort of screen protector while the device is closed and not in use. There is also a slot to store and charge the surface pen when not in use. The surface pen is great tool that I use for note taking while using power point, one note or whatever other application that supports stylus input. I am currently taking Biology and I found it to be most helpful while taking notes and drawing on my power point presentations. That is just a small example of how I found this to be useful and helpful :::Pros & Cons::: Pros: - Keyboard is backlit - Media keys (volume & brightness control) - Has a built-in slot to store and charge the surface pen - Keyboard cover doubles as a screen protector - Keyboard is easy to remove & attach - Surface pen is very responsive and enhances the device experience Cons: - My only complaint is that it isn’t included with the device :::Closing thoughts::: The keyboard cover with the surface pen adds to the whole experience so I can honestly see why it is sold separately. If you are able to overlook that small gripe then I think that you would come to really like this just as much as the Surface itself because they are made for one another. I would say ask yourself if you really need the stylus otherwise you can go with the other keyboard covers that are sold. And for those who would choose a more traditional keyboard and mouse then I would recommend the “Microsoft Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse preferably the Glacier color along with their Designer Compact Keyboard it goes well with the surface Pro 9 platinum. Both items are really portable and fit easily in any bag so don’t feel limited as far as options because your options are open on how you would like to use your Surface device and this keyboard cover is just one of those options. :::TL;DR::: Microsoft made the perfect companion keyboard/cover for the surface. It does more than just type and is the simplest route to go. It may not fit every consumers budget but that is okay too because you can pair your Surface PC with other accessories that Microsoft makes it is a win/win no matter how you look at it.

The Perfect Keyboard for your Surface Tablet
1 December 2022

I chose this keyboard to go with my Surface Pro 9. This is my first Surface tablet, so I needed a keyboard for it. This one is very nice! I like the pen that comes with it and how everything charges from the tablet. The keys have a decent feel – as good as any notebook computer I’ve used – and are well-spaced and intuitive. The pen works well, too, with just enough movement of the tip to provide some feedback when writing. I like the Alcantara surfaces as they feel nice to the touch and also give the tablet a soft backing when setting it down on a table. The magnets that hold the keyboard to the tablet are very strong. It makes it very easy to attach the keyboard with just one hand. It makes it very easy to attach the keyboard with just one hand. All I have to do is hover the Surface over the keyboard and it magnetically finds it and snaps together perfectly. The magnets on either side of the pen tray do a great job of holding that edge against the surface giving the keyboard a slight angle which makes typing easier. I like that the Fn key works both as a toggle and a momentary “shifted” key. In other words, I can press it while pressing one of the top row keys and it will type the “F” key, but not toggle it into function-lock. If I do want to toggle it, I just press the Fn key by itself and its indicator LED lights-up. I believe that’s a great design. Overall, I really like this keyboard and find no faults with it. I highly recommend this for your compatible Surface tablet.
