I recommend only this console to buy, it is superior on all fronts to the younger version. It is better to save up money, wait, be patient with gritted teeth and buy the finished product at once. Not half of it. The games will not run away from you, will not be removed from stores or will not be wiped to powder on the cheek of your fingers, you will play what you planned anyway. You'll thank yourself later.

I was lucky to score this for a great price. I searched practically everywhere imaginable comparing prices and deals and Walmarts seem to be the best especially with the game pass. I used to have a Xbox 360 but the setup on this digital console is a whole lot different than the 360 was. I got this for my son for Christmas and gave it to him early since he’s leaving for Christmas to go out of town but we really only did the setup process so far and haven’t been able to play any games so I may try to come back and update my review if I’m able.PROS: Console is compact and easier to fit beside tv than the old Xbox console. This has a matching wireless controller for better control and more comfort in whichever seating preferences you have. The setup process is pretty easy, it has a QR code for logging in to a Microsoft account or creating a new one and syncing the two. After this, it’s step by step instructions on the tv. It’s effortless to connect the wiring from console to TV and pretty simple using just 2 hookups. This came with 3 months of Xbox passes to play limitless amount of game play on virtually hundreds of popular games like GTA, Roblox, SIMS, Minecraft, And Sandbox inspired gaming. After expiring, a game pass is pretty affordable which costs 16.99/monthly and there are free games like Fortnite that can be played without a Xbox pass. You can stream apps like Netflix on the Xbox if your down for watching a movie instead of gaming. The controller is pretty much just the same as Nintendo Switch for button placement so I don’t have to remember new buttons or get confused as to how it works.CONS: I wish this came in more than 1 color. The digital version is in white and the regular console is in black. After the setup process, the display and learning basics can be a bit confusing for a newbie and some getting used to. The controller is pretty heavy and takes 2 batteries which did come with the console, but even without the batteries it’s still heavy. When setting up a free month of Xbox pass, it wants a credit/debit card number or PayPal sync because the Xbox pass is pretty much a subscription, so whenever the month is up, it will charge the card. This is pretty disappointing considering some people don’t feel comfortable sharing that info if it’s supposed to be a free game pass (this console game with 3 months of it). It would be helpful to include exactly what games are included in the pass and what games can be played without a pass. I was only able to read a brief description of games and not a actual full list. There should be a detailed description of how long it will take to do updates and game downloads depending on internet speed to save a lot of unnecessary purchases and depict the best choice when choosing the Xbox S or X. My internet isn’t very fast so it takes practically hours or pretty much all day long for a download.

Games like Minecraft and Starfield load up faster than they did on Xbox One S console with really great 4k graphics on a 4kUHD tv. Comes with almost no apps installed, including YouTube, and does not update apps/games in the background, so just a heads up on that. The choices for Home backdrop pictures are a really nice added touch. It comes with a slightly smaller controller that is easier for shorter fingers to hold comfortably. The console is roughly 2/3 the size of a Series S console, and comes with the newer cord instead of a power brick as well as the 4kUHD HDMI cable.This arrived the day before the initial estimated delivery date, let alone the additional 5 day grace period requested by the new vendor. This is nice as the audio doesn't have to compete with a fan to keep a smaller room from getting too stuffy.

Great value, excellent experience, with two notable caveats.

3 years after release, the Xbox Series S still remains an excellent value. Personally, I own a higher-end gaming PC, but I purchased the XSS as I wanted to game on the couch without having to deal with setting up and/or tweaking my PC titles. With my 1080p TV and a Gamepass Ultimate subscription, it fills the niche near perfectly. The two notable downsides I've encountered with the XSS have been; * The ad-riddled dashboard An unfortunate staple of MS system software that's gotten worse overtime. Just the other day I (and every other Xbox user) was greeted with a full-screen advertisement for the new Call of Duty game, with the 'buy now' button automatically highlighted. Modern games have been ballooning in size, with many being around (or exceeding) the 100gb mark. Expansion options are terrible; you're forced to purchase an expansion card for around double the price of an equivalent m.2 2280 SSD, or perhaps more, cutting into the value of the XSS. The internal cards are m2-2230 (a rare size, though becoming more common thanks to Steam Deck & others) and have a partition 'locking' them to the console. Meanwhile thePS5 provides easy, user-friendly access, and supports any SSD that meets their (non-proprietary!) specification.

I looked at the xbox and the game pass library, Halo, and alot of older titles like portal and classic starwars games, so I decided to go to xbox for the first time as a life long playstation player…and wow, theres a lot here that I honestly think makes xbox an appealing option. The biggest thing I noticed from the PS4 to the series S is how much faster everything is. It boots up within seconds, theres no interface lag, and its so smooth! Pretty much the only real downside, which I believe brings it at about $100 less than the PS5 factoring in buying an M.2 ssd for the PS5.

I find the PS5 controller to still be superior, but it's not a detriment to the package here. The textured sticks, in particular, I don't like as much. I find that they wear down somewhat quickly and then flake off (after a year or 2, mind you). Stick caps can take care of this cheaply, of course. The "textured" plastic grips, and L/R buttons/triggers don't really add anything. Still, it's a responsive controller and works with many/most of your Xbox One accessories, like the chat adapter or even aftermarket rechargeable battery packs, so that adds to the overall value proposition of not having to re-buy accessories for your new console.Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Gears 5, for instance, is only 55.1gb compared to 71.9gb on the Series X because the S doesn’t need the full 4K textures.My simple kind of fix for that is the BRILLIANT cloud gaming feature!! Although some games may require a faster internet speed speed.
