This grinder has really been great for me. I don’t have any other electric grinder to compare it to but it’s lived up to everything it’s advertised.Grinds come out fluffy, no static and consistent. I do know there are some people are having slight static issues but I’m going to asssume it’s just a faulty generator and an easy service fix. At this price point it’s certainly worth giving it a shot! I do think there are plenty of more satisfied users then not.Overall, it’s been amazing. It’s not too loud and it grinds my 18-20g in about 20 seconds. Could be a little quieter but I’m certainly not complaining about it, just pointing it out. The motor doesn’t seem to have any issues, even with light roasts.

Order was placed in August and delivery arrived in September as soon as it arrived into the warehouse it was shipped out. Earlier than expected as it was on back order. Alternate brewing once again outdid them selves and was able to direct me in this purchase. Giving me options or either the Varia or the DF 45 based on my preferences. Always easy to deal with and happy to help!Grinder itself is very sturdy, has a high quality feel on the grinder and easy to use. Everything works great and the dial to adjust the setting is very simple yet effective and much quieter than my previous grinder. Still trying to get the perfect shot but these things take time!! Very happy with this purchase and would def recommended.

I have a Breville Oracle and like most of these machines, every cup of coffee was different. It was impossible to get any consistent results. I'm guessing grinder retention, channeling and beans that change in the hopper as the machine body and therefore hopper temperature changes were probable issues. Given the machine internals are similar to the dual boiler which rates ok, I thought I'd try an inexpensive, but reasonably rated single shot grinder before throwing the Oracle. With a normcore tamper also purchased from Alternative Brewing, some scales and a wire distribution tool, I'm now getting consistent results and coffee I enjoy

I've been looking for a long time to replace my Rancilio for use as espresso single dose grinder. The Rancilio is still great for larger grinds for French Press, etc., but unable to really make uniform grinds fine enough for my La Pavoni Europicolla. I looked at the DF64, Niche Zero, and several of the DEureka Mignon models, I decided to take a chance on the DF54 because I got a screaming deal from MiiCoffee at $256 out the door. The other grinders ranged from $400 to $800 and up. I couldn't be more pleased with the DF54. Its small footprint and quiet operation only enhance the terrific grind quality. There isn't much room for improvement with any of the more expensive grinders I looked at.
I’ve been using the grinder for a little more than a week. It is quiet but I don’t or never have another espresso grinder so I don’t know how much quieter. It is also easy to set and see the dial. I can get consistent grind size every time. For the price I think this will be good for beginners. I use 14.1g of beans and measure the output and I will get about 13.8-13.9 and you can push the bellow a couple time to get more out as the grinder runs. You can get to 13.9-14.0. I ended up just throwing a bean or two in there and get the 14.1 back. So you could just consistently always measure more input every time and get pretty consistent desired output. Of course it depends on grind size setting. The delivery is a bit delayed but I think it is the USPS system not the Mii ... MoreI’ve been using the grinder for a little more than a week. They responded pretty quick when I asked.I selected this model over the other ones because of the price point. I am not ready to invest in more expensive higher performance more features (like timers and built in scales) grinder as I am still learning and I don’t know if I am actually able to tell a difference in taste between a setting between 13 and 13.5 for example so the additional grinder adjustment can’t be justified currently in my head. The difference between different clicks can easily be told by the extraction times and results.
Great grinder.Small cons:- Everytime you adjust between settings, it isn't exactly the same grind size. I get big difference in result if I change settings and back but if I leave on the same setting each shot is consistent. I use various roast and beans from different roaster daily. Because of this, I find myself changing between beans less often which kind of defeat single dose grinder a bit.- The chute require cleaning often otherwise plasma won't work to remove static. Every 3-4 18g dose (more if it's dark roast)FYI Canadian buyers duty is 97$ (Currently there isn't many Canadian seller but I bit the bullet because I needed to replace my hand grinder after many years of abuse)
Using the grinder for several weeks now, I can confirm the hope I had, when I ordered it. Having used a commandante for several months until now, the DF54 makes life so much easier, it does what it claims, the brew quality for filter and espresso is top and the ease of use is wonderful. The only negative experience was the extra taxe I needed to pay to the german custom service. It might have been written in the order and I missed it so it could be a personal mistake. Just be aware that an extra 80€ will be added at the custom. Still a faire price for a very solide grinder, would buy again.
It's been a month since I started using this grinder. The DF54 is not consistent at all. If you drink espresso and one day want to make filter coffee, then return to espresso using the previous setting, you'll find that you can't do this as the exact same setting gives different results. It's not a matter of one step but sometimes even five, everything is completely random. I need to stress that I followed all the manufacturer's recommendations, and even exchanged some emails with support, but it still doesn't work.Another problem is with channeling. No matter what I do, I always get channeling. The only downside is that I need to grind coffee manually, but taste is the most important, so basically the DF54 is useless for me at the moment.Additionally, there is information on the product page saying "Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout." This is not true; I had to pay tax.
The DF54 has excellent value as an entry-level coffee/espresso grinder both in terms of the quality of the materials and the cost versus performance. With a body constructed fully of aluminum it’s heavy, solid, and much quieter than its plastic counterparts ~ 10db quieter than a Baratza Encore. Stepless adjustment with an easy-to-read dial, excellent grind consistency with little to no off-grind sized pieces, and fluffy clump-free grounds. Flavor clarity and aroma are significantly better than either my Encore or Kinu Phoenix ~ likely due to the flavor profile of the flat burr vs conical. Flavor clarity and aroma are significantly better than either my Encore or Kinu Phoenix ~ likely due to the flavor profile of the flat burr vs conical. While the manual says that the grind size can be adjusted with an empty hopper or while the motor is running the exception to this is that it can be adjusted coarser with an empty hopper but to adjust finer the motor must be running. This may be common knowledge for some but it was not for me and likely isn’t for the entry-level target demographic of this grinder. The plastic dosing cup and exit chute are both quite staticky (35% humidity for reference) and attract grounds especially when moving from fine to coarse and back to fine and depending on roast level. The chute will likely need to be cleaned with a pipe-cleaner weekly or biweekly which is unfortunate. Removing the rubber dosing cup holder or bellowing while the motor was running did little to remedy the issue either. This might be able to be resolved by grinding directly into the portafilter but that’s a non-option when grinding coarse for pour-over. RDT (spritz of water or stirring the beans with a wet spoon) has been recommended but I have concerns of rust. Clearer instruction in the manual regarding grind size adjustment while the motor is running and exit chute cleaning would go a long way as would an included brush to clean the chute. See reference images of the size of the grinder and the static issue as well as a video of both a shot pulled using the grinder and the issue with adjusting finer without the motor running.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ELkpq560s&t=4shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3GgsK92hqk
I received my DF54 yesterday and put it to a quick spin this morning for my Moka Pot. I set the dial to 20 (still too fine) and the grinder was super quiet without beans. The noise was still pretty low when I started feeding beans to the grinder. Overall, it has a small footprint and looks very elegant and well built. Did I mention this little beast weighs 10 pounds - all metal except the dosing cup which is plastic. Did not find any information on website or online about how to zero the grinder. Miicoffee website did not have a digital manual for DF54 yet. Overall, I really like DF54 and good value for the money.
