This thing is amazing! You can retire your pneumatic 1/2 inch drive wrench once you have this. Takes off lug nuts without breaking a sweat. Axle nuts, no problem either. Almost unbelievable this much torque can be had in a cordless tool. The battery lifeobviously depends on what size battery you use but overall battery life is good to great. Most of the guys that I work with swear by the high priced tool truck brands but afyer seeing this thing in action, they always ask to use my Milwaukee impact when they have a stubborn bolt to loosen. Head to head, in shop trials and the Milwaukee runs away with it every time. I had put off buying this because I alrighty have the mid torque model (2961-20), but WOW, the difference is night and day. It is not the best for 18 ... MoreThis thing is amazing! It is not the best for 18 wheeler sized lugnuts, for that, move up to the 1" impact (2867-20)(2868-20). That being said, this 1/2" model is all the torque that a car and/or pickup mechanic will need. This has quickly become my go to impact for most jobs. Words of caution for people not used to using a tool with this much torque, be easy with the amount of time that you let it hammer when tightening. It will snap off smaller bolts before you even realize it. Highly recommended for any "shade tree" or professional mechanic. Another homerun from Milwaukee!!

This must be an electical problem in the tool, because the impact stalls often when trying to remove fastners. When I bought a brand new it had the problem already but I need it for work so I just kept it and it progressively is getting less usable. It will twitch periodically, stalling out, and put verry little pressure to remove the bolts or fastners. So i tried all of my 8 other batteries from 5ah-12ah and they all do the same thing. If i wiggle the drill around it sometimes will actually work properly but the next time i go to use it the same thing happens. Its great when it works but it just doesn't work properly often enough.

Bought this brand new from a local Home Depot. Was very impressed with the breakaway torque (on par with my pneumatic Snap-On) and generally very pleased with the tool initially. Then it started intermittently giving the blinking light of death and wouldn't function. Was still under warranty so I sent it back - Milwaukee replaced the switch, control board and a couple other internal components. Was a great experience and the tool was returned very quickly. Got about another year out of it and now it's doing the same thing.I am not hard on my tools at all - this is used just on my personal equipment in a DIY-er capacity. This is tools is a piece of junk! The 4 button mode failed almost in day one, so I had to use it in third mode wich many times it struggled even in very light bolts. Its a huge dissapointment knowing how much I apreciate and respect the Milwuakee brand, but with this tools, the elctronics on it are total garbage! Also, the battery fitings became loose, and I was loosing power on the middle of a bunch of jobs. Today, it just quited working like the piece of garbage it is. It only has around 6 months of light use, and it is already done. It wont work at all!!! Now, I just hope Milwuake stands up to their reputation and fix it correctly or they refund my money!!!! Dont buy this product!! Its not good!
FYI, they made two versions of this model, and the newer one turned out to be not so good. So they have a recall/replace program and will trade out your newer model for the better old-style. When I bought mine, I didn't check, and got the new model, but Milwaukee was very prompt about replacing it quickly.I never really used the new one, and have only had the replacement unit for a short while, but I am confident it will have enough guts to handle tire/wheel and brake work just fine. While I'm not going to run out and sell my trusty pneumatic Blue Point impact right now, I think it will see very little use going forward. Besides my air-powered floor jack, my old air compressor is rarely used these days. Converted most everything else to M18 tools, and never looked ... Electric vs. Battery Impact Gun for Appliance Repair was a game changer. No more beating the transmission nuts to get them off. No more struggling with vehicle maintenance and not being able to get the bolts and nuts off. This tool has saved me time, money and wear and tear on my body. The power is just amazing and the ease of use is also a huge plus. I had always thought electric tools were good when pneumatic tools were not available but now I’m convinced that Milwaukee tools are better than anything that I have ever used before. Thank you for producing such a quality tool and helping out the service industry. I will be adding more to my collection to replace my current collection.
I’m a professional automotive technician. I use my power tools everyday, including both M18 and M12. I’ve had the high torque for about two years now. It has broken on me in the middle of a job when I was depending on it 3 separate times. Milwaukee was great about fixing it promptly during the pandemic under warranty, however it has failed the same way 3 times now while tightening bolts. Having no high torque impact without an air hose until getting it back is frustrating, when you only need the air hose for that one air tool. I know the Milwaukee high torque impact is a great tool, but unfortunately I can’t say that’s been the experience I had with the High torque. I know the Milwaukee high torque impact is a great tool, but unfortunately I can’t say that’s been the experience I had with the High torque. I do take care of my tools as well and have had no issues with other Milwaukee tools. If my high torque would work as reliably as all my other Milwaukee tools it would be getting a 5 star review. Unfortunately I’m without a high torque again and back to the air hose. And for those reasons, I unfortunately can’t recommend this particular tool.(I know many people that have had 0 issues with their Milwaukee high torque impacts, mines just defective even after being fixed twice)
First, I’ve only given this four stars because I have not used it to its max potential yet. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t perform as advertised.Second, why is this the last impact you’ll (maybe) ever need? well, there’s a couple of reasons to explain this. This is not a light, or nimble, piece of equipment. As such, it is not going to be your first thing to pick up as far as an impact wrench goes(Unless of course all you’re doing is changing truck tires). The biggest reason from my purchase of this, since I already have the M 12 stubby impact wrench, is that I recently had to service a customers zero turn mower and the stubby would not take off the blade bolts, Nor wood my half inch stubby air impact. I have been looking for an excuse to get into the M18 line of batteries, and this was at the top of my list as far as tools to purchase first. for 20 years I have had a half inch Snap On electric impact wrench. But she’s pretty long in the tooth, and has an obsolete battery system.I have a local retailer who has always treated me right, and as such I could not resist purchasing this. I truly believe this will fulfill my need for Max Ugga Dugga for the NEXT 20 years. So that is my backstory behind this purchase. Now, for the quick review: it is quite heavy, and not terribly well balanced. But it is a tool that does what it does best, removing stuck fasteners. One of the biggest things I appreciate about this tool is the four mode selection. I can take this tool (instead of this one plus my 3/8 inch stubby) and know that I can dial down the torque. I would not want to be using it all day, or in awkward positions when trying to reach difficult places on equipment. But like I said in the title of this review, it is the LAST Impact you’ll reach for. Simply because nothing else has worked.
Third most expensive tool I own and yet it is the most economical tool I’ve purchased from Milwaukee. This tool has provided a lifetime of security in knowing that in the rain in the middle of the cold night I can change mine or somebody else’s tire with absolutely ease. The torque function on this tool have outperformed my snap-on branded tools almost immediately. 9/10 would recommend but only 9 because it is a little expensive for just the bare tool if you’re not buying a kit. I purchased mine in a kit and purchased the rubber boot for it at a $50 price point. I would highly recommend the boot for it because it is top heavy like all 1/2” impacts and it falls if you bump it. I thoroughly tested this thing out on my race trucks and on my service trucks.
