Be aware of dust catch

Awesome sander, certainly agree with best in its class. It certainly will drain a battery but just keep others on hand. Otherwise, the only drawback I have of this is the dust catch attachment is honestly garbage...the sheet sander came with a really nice fabric catch that clips on 100 times easier then the plastic garbage that this came with. Honestly almost returned it only because of the plastic dust catcher attachment. I find myself using the shop vac attachment for this which strains the idea of portability.

Excellent Little Sander (with one annoying issue)

I am a dedicated Milwaukee fan through and through. I love every single one of my Milwaukee tools, including my M18 Orbital Sander. I have a cabinet shop at our ranch and I am always needing to sand something. With a 5.0Ah battery I can get quite a bit of sanding done. The speed adjustment comes in very helpful with certain pieces. There is however one issue that I wish would be fixed. I am on my 4th sander now because after 6mo or so the brake under the velcro disc wears out causing the sander to spin faster and faster. As soon as it touches the work it gouges a big hole in the surface.

Excellent dust collection!

Excellent sander in comparison to other brands. All orbital Sanders in this price range pretty much remove the same amount. However, the dust collection is what separates this one from the competition. The dust collection is far superior, especially when used in conjunction with a Milwaukee vacuum like the packout version I used. The sander had far less dust on the exterior housing, and there was far less cleanup after use. I am very pleased with this product, and it reaffirms my confidence in the Milwaukee brand.

Frustrating Dust Collection Box
13 April 2023

This sander is amazing and can tackle any task! The whole M18 series is well designed, powerful and reliable. My only and significant complaint is with the M18 random orbit sander DUST COLLECTION BOX. It is difficult to open, difficult to close and 'pops' open at the worst times. I got so frustrated with it that I adapted my own. Using the vacuum attachment and a heat gun, I molded the DEWALT random orbit sander dust bag to it. Now it really works like it should. I have pictures. Back to the drawing board guys, use the corded random orbit sander dust bag.

Hook and loop are junk
10 August 2022

Power and variable speed are good. Having it Cordless and hose less are nice. But, the hook and loop pad is junk. After about 5 sanding discs it was worn out and no longer holds sanding discs. Also, if you are sanding anything that isn't just one flat surface you have to be careful which way you are holding the tool. If you twist and turn the wrong way, any sanding dust that is in the canister will be blown back out of the tool and all over the place. It would be nice if there were a one way valve of sorts there to prevent that from happening, aside from a vacuum hose being hooked up of course. It would also be nice if it came with an accessory or alternative pad to accept the adhesive backed sanding discs.

Kind of odd but oddly ergonomic
16 July 2021

Unboxing this little M18 sander gave me the first glimpse of the vacuum / dust trap assembly. The odd shape and fit with the battery sandwiched between the body of the sander and the dust trap just added to the mystery. The vacuum attachment is pretty straight forward but I had work to do, that's why I bought it. The enclosed 3.0 battery was charging so I grabbed a 5.0 off the shelf and it slid right in the pocket and we went right to work. The adjustable speed is a welcome addition to palm sanding and the 5 amp battery provided plenty of power to sand and refinish the door I was working on. Wound up emptying the dust collector several times so the Packout vacuum is next on the list but the odd shape of the assembly just wouldn't get out of my head, however running ... MoreUnboxing this little M18 sander gave me the first glimpse of the vacuum / dust trap assembly. Face it, the dust collector looks like the buckhead of the Apollo moon lander but it's not in the way and just plain works. Now the old Porter Cable will get retired and an M18 vacuum will be getting ordered pretty quick.Definitely recommended.

Sadly Milwaukee missed the mark

Bought to replace a certain orange colored tool company’s corded 6” random orbital sander thinking that this tool would be up to par with the rest of my great Milwaukee tools that I bought for my company, that was not the case with this tool. It does not have enough rotation to do a good job efficiently, it is more on a DIY level tool which extremely sub par compared to my huge product line of other Milwaukee tools and batteries. We used it simply to sand some bondo flush to pressure treated pine using 80 grit Diablo sand paper, 15 minutes of use and this tool is going straight back to H.D.We have thousands of dollars of Milwaukee equipment and still have our first pieces ever bought still rocking years later beside their big brothers. This was a disappointment.Im not even comparing the tool to the brand rigid, this tool unbranded would make me feel that I’m using a Hart or some discount tool.I can’t review the dust collection part because of the short time, and that we used Diablo universal fit so it only uses 4 of the holes on the machine so it wouldn’t be an honest answer on that category, and have no idea about run time, because I’m not wasting any more payroll on it.Another trip to the store today, and looks like I have to pick up a Ri….Ri….Ri… I can’t even say it. I guess there will still be a dot of orange in a sea of red.

Swing and a miss from Milwaukee

I expected much more from this sander, but I'm afraid it was a real disappointment.I've had a yellow orbital sander for 10 years that has been a beast and helped me complete hundreds of projects. I finally wore the brushes out, so as I waited for a new set to arrive in the mail, I decided to give this cordless guy a try. I have a half dozen Milwaukee tools and have been slowly cutting out corded tools whenever possible.Sanding kd pine boards, I immediately noticed the vibration was good but the spinning was hugely lacking even at full power. Not even half as efficient as what I'm used to. You have to move extremely slow or else the dreaded squiggle marks are everywhere. On top of that, I drained a full battery in about 15 minutes - not overworking the tool ... MoreI expected much more from this sander, but I'm afraid it was a real disappointment.I've had a yellow orbital sander for 10 years that has been a beast and helped me complete hundreds of projects. On top of that, I drained a full battery in about 15 minutes - not overworking the tool whatsoever. Within those last 5 minutes the performance noticeably suffered. The dust collection (and the tool as a whole) seems to have a good design but poor execution. I noticed a lot more residual dust in the area in a short period compared to the yellow competitor.I don't write a ton of reviews but I felt I had to share my experience with this sander. Sadly it's a thumbs down.

Wow! Just Wow!
10 March 2022

The finish that I achieved with this cordless orbital sander on day one of using it, is amazing! Took a little getting used to the power of this little unit and needed to dial down the variable speed setting for myapplication. Paired this with 3m Cubitron II sanding film disks 180 grit and the surface feels as smooth as glass!!!I have spent a lot of time researching and trialing various brands of cordless woodworking tools. It is very important to me that the tool fits my hand and is light enough for me to comfortably handle and that the work is done by the tool!! This Milwaukee Random Orbital Sander ticks all of the boxes!!Although, I have no idea how to open the accompanying dust collector unit without brute force? Any suggestions?
