Bad batch?

I don't believe this is how this marmalade should taste reading some of the other reviews. It has the texture of jelly in pieces even when you stir it. The biggest problem is that it has very little orange flavour and is overwhelmingly sweet. Even the shred doesn't taste of much. What have they done to this?

This was for my English mother-in-law. She loves jam and marmalade. She loves orange flavor too. I can find grape and strawberry at most stores, but not orange, so ordered this one through my herb. She almost finished the jar in a week. πŸ˜‹

I had not had this for sometime but used to enjoy it so when I ordered it recently, although I was looking forward to eating it on my toast again, I was disappointed. The shreds are very, very fine which I think undermines the actual taste which was really quite weak and unfortunately not the tangy, bitter orange flavour I remembered and loved. The jelly is of a very soft consistency, which in itself is not a problem for me but it does not have much taste either. A let down and sadly not something I will be re-purchasing.

Excellent! Anything by Bonne Maman is just bound to be good!
27 May 2022

We recently bought several Bonne Mamon products from iHerb. We originally just wanted their Lemon Curd, but I saw a package of 3 of their products, so I ordered that. Orange Marmalade was one of the others included with the Curd. I tasted it first and loved it. We are old fans of the Lemon Curd which we already know is superior to other brands you can buy in the supermarket. The other bottle included in our assortment was the Apricot Preserves. Yum!The quality of all of these products is outstanding!

French Marmalade was always a tall order
15 July 2023

There was a time when Marmalade really wasnt a word the French could comprehend and the best they could do was a sort of orange jam which seemed to involve treating oranges the same way they treated any fruit jam by just boiling up the whole fruit to a pulp with sugar resulting in a cloudy mess sans any rind or tang. This has come a long way from that and at least looks like marmalade should. The taste is a lot better too but sadly still doesnt hit the bar. While there is no doubting this is marmalade it somehow tastes watered down. There is no body to the flavour. Yes there is some tang and strips of pith but the orange taste is weak and the texture a bit watery.

Good
28 December 2023

I like the zest/ peel in its composition but find the overall consistency slightly runny. Good orange taste tho.I use Bonne Maman jams pretty steadily as quality is good - consequently I've accumulated quite a few empty jars over the years which I've found really useful for storing spices.

Not enough protection
3 December 2023

While the glass jars were individually wrapped in protective plastic and paper it wasn't quite enough. The glass didn't break on either jar but they were shaken up enough that the lid seals broke and there was leaking from both of them even though both lids stayed attached. I'm sure the contents will be safe. I do wish they had been packed better.

Not really marmalade
29 July 2024

This is fine if you just want something sweet like jam on your bread, but it really does not taste like marmalade. The consistency is too soft and is more like jam and it is a bit too sweet for my taste, but the main problem is the flavour or lack of. It does not taste of orange, and I think if people were asked to do a blind taste they would hesitate to know what flavour this is. I think M&S is better and has a wide selection of marmalade styles for all preferences.

OK but ...........
3 February 2024

I had not had this for sometime but used to enjoy it, however when I ordered it recently, I felt that it was not as tasty as previously. The shreds are very fine and the overall taste is not the tangy, bitter orange flavour I remembered and loved. The jelly is of a very soft consistency, which in itself is not a problem for me but I do wonder if overall, the recipe has changed in terms of taste.

Orange jam rather than marmalade really
17 March 2024

We love a marmalade with a tart bitterness offsetting the sweetness. For decades we've been eating the Frank Cooper that Ocado used to stock. Once a year or so we try a different marmalade and as we saw the good reviews for this we tried it. But its not first us. Its far too sweet, hardly any tang of bitter orange and very fine shred. It's not horrible, but I don't think we will finish the jar because eating it just makes breakfast glum when one is yearning for some marmalade on one's toast.
