Have installed brackets and curtain rod which looks nice. Haven't installed curtains yet to know if they will slide smoothly

I was so pleased when I received this curtain rod, it is exactly what I wanted. It looks spot on, has a lustrous finish and is a good weight to hold my curtains. I have used 6 of these rods in my house.
Just what was needed for the job. Being expandable it was able to be fitted perfectly and looked very nice.
One of the screws and balls were incorrectly attached to the extender rather than the primary pole. I fixed that, but now the ball easily falls of the pole. When opening the curtain, the extender moves causing the entire rod to collapse.
