Replacing my Tannoy R1. Reason, because I have had them a long time, but the cherry wood veneer will be much missed. This new model was picked because similar dimensions, and that suits me. The ‘urban grey’ front looks the business. The sound is being assessed, it is early days and it is supposed to take 70 hours to ‘run in the speakers’. The sound impressions, I can only compare to my Tannoys. The differences I noticed were, a wide distribution of sound, i.e. no peaking when inline with the speaker. The top end a little higher, bass about the same. The main difference was with clarity. The R1’s are 20 year old and newer stiffer diaphragm I expect has less break up.In conclusion, visually cool and sound quality excellent. I have now had these set up in my room for a few weeks and enough to allow them to settle in. (They do need a time to fully mellow) These are truly remarkable small speakers and I 100% recommend them. A lovely non distorted base even at volume, combined with a lovely top end. These by virtue of size i guess cannot compete at the very top end but wow for value for money they out perform any others anywhere near to this price. I listen to the Dali (Which are great BTW) but these edged in the treble as well as a defined base.

Recently purchased a pair of these fantastic speakers in white, sound quality and loudness amazing for a speaker of its size. The base levels are fine for me ( not overpowering ). Soundstage is perfect creating new sounds for my ears to enjoy the separation of left and right excellent. With Monitor audio brackets used they sit lovely at the right height and angle on my wall, listening to these speakers a real pleasure for the ears. The magnetic grills top notch addition for easy removal. Great product from Monitor Audio.

I bought these about a month ago, upgrading a previous 5.1 setup which consisted of Elac B5 for L/R an Tannoy Eclipse Mini for rears and Tannoy Eclipse centre hooked upto a Denon X3300w. Thist time I went for the Monitor Audio Bronze 50 for front and rear with the Bronze C150 for centre, all in Urban Grey with the same Denon AVR. These completely blow that speaker system out of the water and that was a very coherent and impressive system. They look so good, too! According to my in-room measurements, these speakers measure very well too and make their presence known when it comes to detail. Some online reviewers have mentioned that the MA Bronze 6G is a little harsh on the upper end of the frequency range but I don't find that to be true with music or movies. Some online reviewers have mentioned that the MA Bronze 6G is a little harsh on the upper end of the frequency range but I don't find that to be true with music or movies. Then again, I'm not an audiophile - I'm a home theatre enthusiast. I would say for home theatre applications, these are some of the best budget speakers you can buy. The build quality and attention to detail is amazing, and the sound above all is way better than you would expect for 'budget' speakers.
Richer Sounds is the epitome of brilliant customer service. The staff's knowledge and tech tips are always exceptionally good. They are friendly and you leave feeling uplifted every time. Won't use any other Hi-Fi/TV service from now on as I was reminded of just how good they are. Plus the Manager (at the Bristol store), instantly honored an old promotion on these awesome Monitor Audio Bronze speakers - they sound incredible for a good value mid/entry-level home speaker.
I ordered a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 50's yesterday after a demo and advice from Gilbert at the Milton Keynes store. I listened to a number of options in the £200 - £400 price range but the Monitors excelled way ahead of the competition. They arrived this morning and were set up in minutes matched to my Marantz C-R412. I played many tracks from my varied collection using my laptop via blue tooth and I was simply blown away. These speakers are fantastic. Jazz, big band, ballads and rock all handled with aplomb. A full soundstage, great base, warm and revealing mid range and detailed top end. I noticed so many details that I had not heard before. I am absolutely thrilled with my choice.
After much research decided on these as they need to go on a cabinet near a wall. The sound is brilliant, lots of detail and excellent stereo imaging, plus a decent amount of bass. Unfortunately I had to return them as I couldn't stand the colour with the slightly grey baffle and dark grey sides, they looked much lighter in the pictures. Replaced them with silver 50s in ash which look beautiful and sound slightly better than these.
I am very pleased, and impressed with these speakers. The sound is crisp and clear with an excellent frequency range, with the source from a Dual turntable! To test the speakers i played Phil Collins In The Air Tonight, and they coped extremely well with clear and crisp sound and good vocals. Then i played Simon and Garfunkel Bridge over Troubled Water, i was blown away by the sound, again very crisp and clear.A slight downside is the speakers sound a bit basey, but this could because it's connected to an Arcam Alpha 3, which i have found can be a bit basey. Also the speakers are situated close to a wall. Only a slight niggle, otherwise very satisfied with them and would reommend.
Shifting my Denon RCD-M38 from bedroom to study necessiated a change of speakers to ones that would fit on bookshelves. Thoughtful advice from Richer Sounds staff led me back to the Monitor Audio Bronze 50s, which I had already been considering, having read good reviews. I offered a budget to the Richer Sounds team, didn't mention the Monitor speakers, and they came back with these as a suggestion, coming well below the figure I mentioned, but taking into account all I had asked about.Once again, Richer Sounds have come up trumps. Carefully sited, the speakers look great - I haven't added the magnetic front panels. They feel weighty, well-constructed, with a striking front panel design and understated soft grey sides. Carefully sited, the speakers look great - I haven't added the magnetic front panels. They feel weighty, well-constructed, with a striking front panel design and understated soft grey sides. As for sound, well, no, they don't carry the bass in Massive Attack's 'Angel' as well as my B&W 601s, coupled to a Yamaha Musicast R-N602, in the sitting room next door, nor do they have the same depth and definition, but they have punch and texture, handling a 1930's recording of Pablo Casals playing Bach Cello Suites with remarkable clairty, conjuring up new colours in a Blomstedt recording of Hindemith's 'Nobilissima Visone' and a lovely, vivid sonority to John Lee Hooker's 'Mr Lucky'. I suspect they will be more succesful for me in capturing the details in quartets and solo artists than in orchestral or heavily produced works, but the test will be in seeing how they handle the multi-layered assault of Swans' masterpiece 'The Seer'.Overall, a great buy that has revitalised my listening, brought me back to exploring my CD collection, and reinvigorated my working day.
Used tannoy before and loved them. I wanted a smaller speaker and more upto date. Hooked them with van damm speaker wire and a marantz amp. Vinyl played through a audio technica. This speaker really controls bass, treble is excellent. the who quadrophenia never sounded better. Thats bass and drums at the best. I would have paid a lot more for these speakers if i knew they were this good!
