I recently made a decision that has significantly elevated my gaming experience, purchasing the Alienware 27 Gaming Monitor - AW2723DF. A flaw that caused me to drop that 1 golden star. A flaw which those of us who may be familiar with quality control issues know as: backlight bleed. Gaming in a fairly well lit room, this pesky problem continued to make itself known in every dark scene that was thrown at it. Even in vibrant games such as Apex Legends, briefly passing through dark corridors, dim lit areas, etc. For a 27 inch screen, having this issue took away from the emersive experience, as I found myself continuously noticing ths issue every time I sat down. Keeping in mind that I personally keep the brightness level a bit lower than most, for the sake of my eyes, the dreaded bleed would not cease to exist. I took it upon myself to troubleshoot this issue, and contacted Dell customer service explaining what I was going through. Dell's services could not have been more helpful, going through every test we could, and keeping the optimism high; yet, unfortunately, to no avail. With a heavy sigh, I decided it would be best to return the monitor. Nevertheless, I sincerely encourage anyone who is interested in this particular model to try it! Again, the overall experience on this monitor was a truly pleasant one, and you could end up being the lucky person that scores the best of the batch. The panel lottery does exist, and it's waiting for you to play.

Mine arrived with no issues, which means thankfully mine had no dead pixels. This monitor is simply beautiful. The display is crisp and no ghosting. Viewing angles are great, as should be expected of IPS screens. There is some backlight bleeding on the edges, but only visible when the screen is all black so it doesn't bother me much. It's VESA mountable and is quite light, meaning it doesn't put much pressure on my monitor arms. There's an included headphone rack on the top left side of the monitor and it feels like a useless feature in my opinion. You press on the little button on the top left and a stick thing will unlock itself and pop out. This stick can be extended and acts as a headphone rest/stand. This monitor does not have built in speakers, but there is a 3.5mm aux jack that you can plug headphones or speakers into (figured I should note this, as some people prefer built in speakers). It also should be noted that while it's advertised to be a 280hz screen, the 280hz is only available when overclocked. Mine is running at 240hz at 1440p.

I upgraded from a 27GL850B 144 hz monitor, that was a great panel that I enjoyed for a few years and was highly rated, but I decided to go get this 240 hz Alienware AW2723DF.-Bezels are so much nicer on this monitor compared to well really any other monitor, it does enhance the presentation of what your watching and it looks very good and pleasing to look at even weeks after owning the monitor-This monitor has a bit less of a matte finish overall compared to most monitors and I personally can see the slightly clarity improvement from this and my previous LG monitor, the panel just looks smoother overall in colors, less grain. Nice addition-Motion and smoothness is a nice step up from 144 hz, despite both GL850B and this having similiar response times according to RTINGS, I can absolutely say you can still see a pretty immediate improvement and eSport games just feel that much smoother-Brightness is great and plenty bright(around 400-500 nits on most sites?)I am a IPS guy(until OLED is properly suitable on desktop) and have used many different types of monitors, if you know about different types of displays (VA, TN, OLED, IPS, etc) This is the best IPS panel I personally have ever used, I don’t like curved VA panels-Some backlight bleed for me but it’s normal for LED monitors and nothing unsual, does not bother me. Also have 2 stuck green pixels or subpixels? But they only show on a all black image and you really have to look up close to even find them, even with I knowing where the general location of them are, I still have to look hard and to “locate them again”…. for all intents purposes I never ever see it so its fine and don’t want to play panel lottery and get something that would actually bother me(dead pixels, etc)I would recommend this monitor to majority of people who want a sweet 1440p high refresh rate monitor for a very solid price. You really don’t need 360 hz or any of that unless your a literal professional gamerI would recommend 3080/4070/6800 XT or above on 1440p to have a enjoyable experience today in modern titles

While gaming, I can simply press the joystick back one time to change from default crosshair to my custom crosshair in situations where the crosshairs blend into the background. Pressing the joystick a second time switches it back again. There are way too many features available to mention them all in one review. Enjoy!
Wowza! I’m so blown away by this monitor. The out-of-the-box calibration on this open-box special is by far the best I've ever seen on any monitor even the display one I looked at.I've been on a Dell 24in 1440p 165hz monitor since about 2015. I did a lot of research on 1440p 240hz monitors and just recently upgraded to a 4090 gpu. The Dell 165hz just wasn’t doing it for me anymore and wasn’t pushing the frames I needed it to with the updated card. (Side Note: I left all my Fortnite settings the same and was previously getting huge frame dips and it was struggling to push 165hz - I immediately plugged the new monitor in checked the colors then selected the 280hz setting on this monitor and went back into Fortnite and there were ZERO issues keeping up at the 280 on ... MoreWowza! That’s impressive). I was blown away by the factory/micro center calibration: color smoothness, size, gaming options etc. They must've shown extra care and love to this particular monitor when they calibrated it.I do need to say-I bought this monitor as an open box special at about a 20% discount. I figured at the very least the colors would be way off (someone set the colors for their particular game, etc), they'd be fingerprints, or maybe even a dead pixel or off zone on the monitor ect. Let me tell you I must've hit the color calibration/pixel/panel lottery. It's almost better than new-barely ANY calibrated monitor-at least any I've ever seen.(It did come with a factory/second-hand color calibration sheet.) It was impressive. I didn't have to mess with many of the monitor's ODS settings or many NVIDIA settings before launching a game to test it out on. - Okay enough about the monitor color calibration. So what about the monitor? The second thing I did was test my reflex/reaction times from my old monitor. The recommended response time ODS setting on this monitor is "Extreme." It works wonders. Everything is silky smooth and transitions seamlessly. Personally, I would say the jump from 144/165hz to 240/280hz is pretty noticeable-even for casual gamers and does help with k/d ratios. Moreso, with my system-an AMD 7950x and MSI 4090 Gaming Trio, this thing doesn't skip a beat. I can sit here and push 240/280 frames all day long. That's something I'm so proud/happy for and is well worth the price tag. (I guess I wasn't aware of just how bad my old monitor was till I played around with the Alienware for a bit). It goes without saying the noticeable difference in performance helps and simple things like browsing and watching Youtube videos are seamless and easy and are still in tact (I didn't notice much of a step up from my previous monitor). The stand is quite big and I was a little nervous on my end if it would fit on my desk and in my setup. No sweat here. The cable management sections are a nice addition and the headphone hanger is also a nice addition.PROS:-Excellent Color Calibration-Perfect size/picture quality (I had some concerns going from 24in-27in and wanted to stay at 2k)-Great PriceExcellent/Accurate color-(maybe even if you didn't hit the panel lottery like me)-Noticeable difference in smoothness and response time (I noticed the difference from my old dell)-Excellent support for current high-end PC's - Good support for future-proofing-Good Selection of monitor "gaming" options and touch buttons/access to usb's ect.Cons:-I like my monitors super bright and there's a hard tradeoff between blackness level/contrast and seeing things TOO dark. It is a bit of a harder tradeoff than my previous monitor.-I like how the old dell monitors have the usb ports on the bottom left of the screen, but the middle bottom left usb placements aren't bad.-The stand is HUGEFinal Thoughts:While driving to Micro Center I had my heart set on this monitor and thought there must be a reason they have 4 open-box of this monitor and ZERO ROG PG279QM. I was concerned that since it was open-box I would have to do most of the calibration myself-Not to mention there would be fingerprints or possibly a dead pixel. I couldn't have been further wrong and more blown away at just how impressive this monitor really is-In fact, I got the all powerful-most important approval from the boss lady when she said "wow-that monitor really is impressive" after first telling her about it." - So there's that. Anyway, the color is great. The smoothness and response time are definitely noticeable. And I got it at a great price with the open box special. There is also a little bit of future-proofing here as I believe there is a little headroom for either an increase in the gpu or refresh rate if I needed one way or another-but the 4090 and AW2723DF seem pretty compatible and noticeable for competitive gaming even at the all-powerful/recommended 240 refresh rate. Lastly, I would just say that in order to get the full effects of this monitor you really must be at least a little bit into competitive gaming and b.) have a system capable of pushing it to its limits.
I have this monitor hooked up to a 4070 Ti and it shows off the card very well. The refresh rate is amazing via DisplayPort. I "downgraded" from a 4k 60Hz monitor but if you set this monitor's sharpness to about 40 and slightly upscale your game it helps smooth out edges of text and images.I was looking for something with the better-quality HDR 600 (vs. the 500) and there is a slight visible change in brightness when you switch from a dark subject on the screen to a bright one. For example, if you're viewing a darker page then a white dialogue pops up, you will notice the screen brightens slightly. The change in brightness steps are quite small (it's a smooth transition) so it is not distracting unless you're looking for it. I do think the screen makes an effort ... MoreI have this monitor hooked up to a 4070 Ti and it shows off the card very well. The refresh rate is amazing via DisplayPort. The change in brightness steps are quite small (it's a smooth transition) so it is not distracting unless you're looking for it. I do think the screen makes an effort to dim sections of the screen that are dark vs. the entire panel. It does this so well that it's hard to tell whether the entire panel's light changes or just the one side. For being an IPS screen it has a solid execution of HDR and obviously it will not have the same true black as a QLED panel. My only issue with this monitor is the backlight bleed along the right edge. It shows up in two spots but otherwise the panel looks great. With HDR turned on, it will dim the screen in darker scenes which helps cut down on the bleed, and under typical brighter situations the bleed impossible to spot. The stand is heavy and sturdy and I appreciate how low the screen can go. When all the way down, the screen is just under 3 inches above the desk. The colorful LEDs in the back and power button can be set to a breathing cycle, solid, or off. The simple white styling of this monitor also drew me to it because it matches my desktop speakers and keyboard.
