This one is a classic pen and I can see why since it's very well made. There’s a lot of attention to detail in this pen, making it great for purpose, i.e., writing. The nib is great, there’s an ink window to monitor ink levels, a piston filling mechanism allowing for decent amounts of ink and a comfortable hold. There’s a lot of fuss in the fountain pen community about the price of these pens, but to be honest, there are many very expensive pens out there that I think deserves a similar point of view, but they don’t receive it for whatever reason. So I’d be my own critique on this, and all counts for that matter, when assessing cost. For me, I buy a pen, first and foremost, to write with. I therefore wish for no issues with the nib, filling mechanism etc. and this ... MoreThis one is a classic pen and I can see why since it's very well made. I can’t stand a fancy pen with faulty workmanship or function, although I wouldn't consider this pen to be 'fancy' in that it's quite conservative in appearance compared to other pens out there.

I have wanted this pen for thirty years! I own other nice fountain pens but this is really a step above in the way the nib glides across the page and the ease and comfort of writing with it. It is a great pleasure. The pen makes me want to turn off all my electronics and simply put pen to paper( using Montblanc ink of course) and write, write, write.I am grateful to Pen Boutique for their quick shipping and efficient service as my timing of ordering required this.

The Montblanc 146 (LeGrand) is a classic elegant fountain pen, a little less thick than the larger 149; this matters if you want to post the cap or clip the pen in a pocket. The 146 nib is smaller than the magnificent 149, but is as smooth as you please. As with many other European nibs, a "fine" is still pretty wet. The 146, like the 149, is a piston filler which operates easily and has good ink capacity; the 149 that I purchased more than forty years ago is still working, all original with minimal maintenance. Side by side, I cannot see much difference between "red" gold and "yellow" gold; both look good. Whether as a gift or for personal use, if you want to buy just one great fountain pen, this is it.

The experience I had with Pen Boutique was no less than perfect. The Montblanc Meisterstück 149 w/Platinum Trim has been on my list since I recently wrote with one belonging to a close friend, and I am extremely pleased that I ordered mine through Pen Boutique. Before I mention the pen itself, Pen Boutique’s service is second-to-none. The entire experience left me very impressed. The way in which my order was handled was excellent and very secure. The additional sweets included in the package was a thoughtful touch. Little things like this make clients appreciate the “human touch” involved when ordering online, despite having a 1,000+ mile separation between client and boutique. Also, due to a discount code from Pen Boutique, the overall price was very reasonable. The pen itself is something that truly needs to be experienced. Nothing I say here will either do it proper justice or add anything new to the multitude of positive reviews one can find. Suffice to say, after this pen was added to my collection I have found myself looking for excuses to write for longer periods each day. It definitely lives up to the hype! Personally, I have never been a fan of outlandish finishes on my pens. This is just my personal preference, so I consider the overall appearance of the Platinum 149 to be understated yet elegant (two qualities that often go hand in hand). For years I have found fountain pens to be delightful tools to write with, so I would absolutely recommend the Montblanc Meisterstück 149 to anyone who also enjoys writing with them.
I like the way it writes more than Pelican M1000 because of the less flexible nib. Just my preference. It can be posted unlike the 80day solitaire and Ferrari theme pen.A little lighter than I prefer but still nice.
Bought this recently. IguanaSell is an authorized dealer in Montblancs . Decided to buy from here due to the bewildering number of counterfeits out there of Montblancs and the competitive pricing offered by IGS. You may be able to avoid the additional costs of speciality nib grinds and taxes if you buy from here.Got the version with a bi-tone gold nib and a medium.Arrived with the super fast shipping as is customary for IGS and in perfect condition!!! I am a USA customer.Using the Kon- Peki ink . Great MB. Smooth and outstanding writer right out of the box. We Fountain Pen Afficianados looks for sheen and shading and a great writing experience among other things. This pen will provide all of that and tons of it.Highly Recommended!!!!!
It's a Montblanc 149. You don't need a review from me to know the superior quality of this item. If you can afford one, get one. If you can't, then don't. So I'll take this opportunity to thank the people at Pen Boutique. Fantastic to deal with. Great communication. Fast shipping. Just an overall great experience with this purchase.
One can say what they want about Mont blanc, but in my opinion as a fountain pen reviewer I give my honest review my thoughts about a pen the good the bad and not sure. Yes They are high end fountain pens but you’re getting more than just a fountain pen, your getting one of the best leading pens in the world, why? They have high standards, pen boutique will always make sure you get what you wanted, the quality of resins is Top notch , there are several many different types of resin. Montblanc needs are smooth wet and no skips no great flow of ink. I am a true Montblanc user. If I was able to work then it would be easier for me to purchase these pens. Back on the Mont Blanc nibs offers, a wide variety of In-house nibs, not just your standard extra fine , fine , medium, or broad nibs offered. So bottom line you get a lot of pen for your money.Larrys Fountain Pens Review ✌ ✒
This is a fantastic pen. I have purchased some lesser MB's in the past, and they were very nice. Truth be told, I even purchased a few knock-offs in China and they most assuredly were not. I was told while shopping that there are a lot of sad tales from people who purchased what they thought was an authentic MB and got poor knock-offs, too.But this was worth waiting for. I am a writer by trade, and this will help me write better. All the details, shipping, preparation, care was all done magnificently by the Pen Boutique people. I am really thrilled to find a trusted partner in fine writing equipment with the Pen Boutique. Good product, great customer service, happy customer...doesn't happen always, but when it does, it's just beautiful.Rick (Colorado)
It has all been said. Many consider this pen to be the gold standard. It is beautiful, well crafted, and performs superbly. Understated classic elegance.I got hooked on fountain pens with my first little red Sheaffer Student. Five decades, and many nice pens, later I have finally rewarded myself with this Montblanc. Is any pen worth this price? You can add artwork, precious materials, commemoratives or other costly upgrades; but you cannot add any improvements or refinements to the basic function of being a pen, perfected. My money is well spent on this Legrand because it truly is the pen it claims to be, … and I deserve it!Penboutique service was outstanding. I’m sure there will always be more pens in my future, but this one is truly special.
