Montblanc Meisterstück 146 gold plated LeGrand fountain pen Oblique breed (OB)

The Montblanc 146 (LeGrand) is a classic elegant fountain pen, a little less thick than the larger 149; this matters if you want to post the cap or clip the pen in a pocket. The 146 nib is smaller than the magnificent 149, but is as smooth as you please. As with many other European nibs, a "fine" is still pretty wet. The 146, like the 149, is a piston filler which operates easily and has good ink capacity; the 149 that I purchased more than forty years ago is still working, all original with minimal maintenance. Side by side, I cannot see much difference between "red" gold and "yellow" gold; both look good. Whether as a gift or for personal use, if you want to buy just one great fountain pen, this is it.

I couldn’t be happier with my recent purchase. I originally ordered platinum trim, but because of backorder issues for that product I decided to change to gold trim, and I’m glad I did. It is a timeless, classic design and that is perfectly sized for my hand. It is a great writer, and I look forward to using it for years to come.

The customer service process was smooth and the Montblanc was what I expected. For the US customer, note the office is in Spain. But don’t let this dissuade you whatsoever. They are professional; the delivery was quicker than local; and the company is more trustworthy (and authorized) than some American distributors.

I have had this pen for a while now, and I can heartily recommend it. It writes extremely well and the piston filler holds lots of ink. The price tag is on the high side but I think it's worth it. Very smooth writing fountain pen.
I wish had bigger ink well like the 149 or the Custom 823. Otherwise the perfect size daily fountain.
Montblanc has a very prestigious reputation in the fountain pen world, and I now see why. The pen is very well crafted, and feels balanced whether posted or not. The quality of the material case material and nib are incredibly high. It is attractive, and writes incredibly well. I'm very pleased with this pen!
The pen is truly a meisterstuck in every way. I love the pen more than I thought I would. Joe encouraged me to try it out and I was smitten. But even more, the service at Pen Boutique is outstanding. They could not have been more accommodating and patient as I tried various pens and picked through the inks. Great place!
Bought this recently. IguanaSell is an authorized dealer in Montblancs . Decided to buy from here due to the bewildering number of counterfeits out there of Montblancs and the competitive pricing offered by IGS. You may be able to avoid the additional costs of speciality nib grinds and taxes if you buy from here.Got the version with a bi-tone gold nib and a medium.Arrived with the super fast shipping as is customary for IGS and in perfect condition!!! I am a USA customer.Using the Kon- Peki ink . Great MB. Smooth and outstanding writer right out of the box. We Fountain Pen Afficianados looks for sheen and shading and a great writing experience among other things. This pen will provide all of that and tons of it.Highly Recommended!!!!!
This is my daily writer and love to sketch with it. I feel bad that all my other pens don’t get used as much, but it’s no Montblanc. The EF is perfect. The F was just a little too wet.
It has all been said. Many consider this pen to be the gold standard. It is beautiful, well crafted, and performs superbly. Understated classic elegance.I got hooked on fountain pens with my first little red Sheaffer Student. Five decades, and many nice pens, later I have finally rewarded myself with this Montblanc. Is any pen worth this price? You can add artwork, precious materials, commemoratives or other costly upgrades; but you cannot add any improvements or refinements to the basic function of being a pen, perfected. My money is well spent on this Legrand because it truly is the pen it claims to be, … and I deserve it!Penboutique service was outstanding. I’m sure there will always be more pens in my future, but this one is truly special.
