A great phone, maybe not the best value.

I bought this phone to replace my beloved Motorola Z2 force. I'm disappointed that Motorola no longer offers phones with a polycarbonate screen. ALL Gorilla Glass SCREENS CAN BREAK. Besides that, I do like the Edge+ 2022 very much. Camera is excellent, storage is much greater, screen picture is nicer and easier to see in daylight. With tv streaming 4k plus laptop connected to hotspot, Edge lasted over 8 hours. Battery WILL actually last all day with normal use. Phone is faster overall. Now have 5G. Do miss the Moto Mods. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sounds great and is much louder than old phone.Did not want to replace the old Z2 Force as it worked just fine, didn't have a choice as Motorola no longer supports that phone. Apps seem to want version 10 or better now, was stuck with 9. Z2 Force is an indestructible phone, was dropped down concrete stairwells, thrown against walls and into pavement etc. Never used a case on that phone only a plastic screen protector. In the end, it had some scratches on the metal corners and scratches on the screen edges.Edge+ 2022 is a good phone. I'm bitter about being forced to buy it. Glad that I was able to get it for $500 on black Friday, would never have paid full price for it. This phone will wear a case and glass screen protector for the rest of my ownership. I'm also glad that people won't rob me for a Motorola. Will also never get the kind of trade in value for it either as Apple and Samsung actually hold value. Haven't dropped the new phone yet but I'm saving up for the screen replacement now.

As far as I know, That process remains flawed BUT my review DID catch the attention of Moto's customer care team and over the course of a few days Moto issued a credit for the over-charge. As for the phone itself, it's everything I had hoped for when trading in my Edge 2021. (I have now owned all three Edge versions, 2020, 2021, and 2022) The specifications and performance are all as advertised. Other reviews will take swipes at the camera but I simply do not understand those criticisms. While I have never owned a Pixel (the camera leader?), I have owned Samsung flagships and those cameras have nothing over the Edge's camera. If not for the recent over-charge frustration, I would have been happy to award the phone 5 stars. Adding in those recent frustrations (now resolved), I must take away 1 star but the phone gets a solid "5" with the overall experience a high "4". As I did on my initial review I will sign this as "Moto Victim" but as the title indicates, Moto's support team has made the correction and I am a victim no more.

Good but there are a few issues
16 January 2023

I've had several Motorola higher-end phones which did not disappoint and this one doesn't either, but there are a few issues. This phone doesn't have a headphone jack, and a dongle adapter is no longer supplied. Using an aftermarket dongle adapter causes audio to come from the phone's speakers when it's unplugged, even if the audio app has been shut down, necessitating the audio app's kill. Also, there seems to be an issue with screen sensitivity, in that on swiping up to close an app, if the swipe isn't perfectly vertical the app refuses to close and presents the 'clear all' button. Sometimes it takes a few pokes at something to get the desired action. For the first few days of use, battery life was abysmal but apparently the phone worked through those issues and ... MoreI've had several Motorola higher-end phones which did not disappoint and this one doesn't either, but there are a few issues. For the first few days of use, battery life was abysmal but apparently the phone worked through those issues and now it's very close to the Edge I had previously, which was very good, so that issue has sorted itself satisfactorily. Charging the phone with the supplied charger is much faster than the Edge I had previously so that's a real plus. I also appreciate Motorola's staying very close to stock Android. The Moto app's Make It Yours options are welcomed, but beware the icon and text resizing for the home screens, as it destroyed my home screens and I had to rebuild them completely from scratch. I would appreciate a more aggressive security and software update schedule. Overall, a do-buy recommendation.

Great phone for very low price

This phone features 8 gen 1 cpu, 512gb memory and 8gb ram, decent 50mp camera and it is priced 2x time less its Samsung Galaxy competitors. Difference between 8 gen 1 and 2 is really negligible. Even though 8 gen 2 new Adreno 740 gpu has support for ray tracing there is no software SDKs to support it and when they come with future Android versions, phones that contains these new SOCs will be out of support (always happens on Android). Modem on 8 Gen 2 list the same speeds as on 8 Gen 1. There are some marketing BS that AI makes connections more stable than on 8 Gen 1, but no quantification on how more stable. Fingerprint in power button makes it easy to open phone when it's installed in car cradle.

MOTO EDGE+ ROCKS

Got this to replace a Samsung s22ultra with a demolished screen. The repair cost was crazy. The edge + was on sale and was on par with the samsung except for the zoom camera and water dust proofing standards. That said this phone rocks. My cell phone reception is better. The samsung would loose signal in the back end of any store. The edge has a signal you can call on. The Samsung would only show two or three wifi spots when you turn this function on while the edge+ shows 14+. All my past Samsungs were just as bad with reception issues also.It feels like the operating system is smoother and the functional layout is much more user friendly.Motorola has always been weak about system updates but it has no effect on the use. She live in a fringe area. Our calls use to get dropped, poor video call quality, and voice breaking up sometime. Since she got her MOTO we never drop a call and video calls are clear.I have become a Motorola fan after this purchase and will only by a moto from now on.Samsung may have bells and whistles to shine at you But MOTOROLAS operation and signal quality trump eye candy any day.

One Device Doesn’t Fit All

After purchasing this phone I can say it is a winner for productivity use. It doesn’t comes with many gimmicks or apps you don’t need. The stock android is a win in my opinion. I read and look at many reviews and decided to purchase. The negative comments about this device did not apply to my needs and wants with this phone. In my opinion it is better than the S22 Ultra and the iPhone 13 Pro in many categories. I bought this a month ago to replace my beloved Moto Z4. I have owned multiple of every Moto Z series phones. I really loved my Z4 with the moto mods and I sacrificed performance to keep the Z4 going as long as I could tolerate it. So, my next Motorola phone needed to have a lot of processing power to make up for the lack of moto mod support. The Motorola Edge Plus 2022 is really fast and can multitask easily. I can run maps on android auto and Sirius XM or other music apps. This phone can quickly change apps as quickly as you think about it. I wish it still had the SD card slot, supported moto-mods, and the headphone jack. The screen is clear and bright, the camera is amazing, and it has a clean install of Android 12. Awesome phone, blows my iPhone 13 Max Pro out of the water, and I am super happy to be back on Android!! Apps run better many more to choose from. This phone charges in 15 minutes to full, last few days, it is light and takes awesome pictures, and has 10 times the features iPhone has. I caught it on sale, so it cost half the price. Apple holds you hostage and makes it almost impossible to get your data off to Android, this was a major challenge. The list is so long why this is a better phone and I just do not have the time to write them all down. This phone is lightning-fast and can handle my heavy workload and heavy gaming. The edge is very very similar to the Huawei, so close it really makes you wonder if Motorola teamed up with them secretly. The Huawei was the best phone I have ever owned and the longest. I get a new phone every year and have done so since smartphones came out. I was a die-hard Samsung fan until they did the rounded edge. If you want an awesome phone at an awesome price, this phone is for you, nothing else even comes close!

Solid product

It almost wasn't Motorola but since LG decided to pull the plug on their phone operation I came back. It was a toss up between this one and the Moto edge but I chose this one because of the storage capabilities and because of Motorola is known quality. I definitely like the interface layout over my previous LG. The battery life is pretty solid as well but do not believe the advertisements that it lasts all day unless you basically don't touch it all day. Setup from my LG to this one wasn't too bad although a few contacts and apps were missing during the transfer but that's no big deal. Overall, being able to maneuver on this thing was a pretty simple transition. It helps that I went from an Android to an Android. I had to order mine separately which I found kind of odd. I've only had this thing about 2 weeks but overall I'd say I'm happy with my purchase.
