A honest review that is NOT promotional. This game sucks! It’s not putting the marble in the tub and whenever it does the diver never goes into the bucket. I recommend you purchase the older version if you can find it because this doesn’t work like the one I had as a kid.

Game is as fun as I remember. My 3 and 6 year old can play it pretty much on their own after I help set up the trap. Only complaint is the box now opens on the end instead of slipping on like a traditional board game box. It is v frustrating to try and wiggle all the funky shaped pieces back into the box this way.

Like another review…this game is not the same the older versions! The plastic pieces on the mouse trap don’t line up and the trap never goes off without tweaking it 10 times. Can’t get the boot to kick the bucket hard enough to make the the ball roll down the stairs and the swinging broom to catapult the ball to the bathtub never lines up and dumps the ball off the game board. This is very frustrating to try to play! This new version gets you to build the whole mouse trap at the beginning of the game which most kids will run off and lose interest and the older version you build the trap as you play the game. I’m going to buy the older version on eBay and return this new cheaply made one!I watched a YouTube video of a boy and his dad playing this new version and ... MoreLike another review…this game is not the same the older versions! The game does not work. When you pull the stop sign back, it pushes the ball through to the broom. When it reaches this point it goes into the bucket and the wrench does not release. You have to manually release the wrench and then it throws the ball into the air instead of into the bath tub. It takes away from the fun of the game.
The store sent me MouseTrap game that had previously had an order label printed and stuck to the box, then had a box cutter knife used to cut the label out from the box lid, just going through the lid enough to remove the label and a couple layers of the cardboard from that squarish spot on the lid... then placed the sticker from my order directly on the box somewhat over the same spot... HELLO!?! this is the black friday sale... GIFT SEASON... WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?!!? this is UNUSABLE!
Pulling back the stop sign never kicks the first bucket over so you have to push it yourself. Then when the marble dumps out of the second bucket it never lands on the red ramp and just falls onto the table. Touching the board at all sets off the trap. Setup and breakdown is time consuming. Worst part is trying to get it to all fit back into the box.
I got this game as a gift for my daughter, since I enjoyed it as a child. One positive thing is that the rules to play the game have been redesigned, so you get to set off the trap more times in each game than the old version. This makes the game more fun to play. Unfortunately, they have not redesigned the structure to make it more durable. One of the legs broke off while trying to disassemble it after the very first use. This was very disappointing! Also, it’s really hard to get the boy to actually kick the bucket to get the chain of events started. So, a little engineering work is perhaps still needed for a third redesign.
The kids had fun; however, this is not like the game I had when I was a child. They have changed the design. They took away the crank that used to make the stop sign hit the boot. Now, you have to pull back the stop sign to make it hit the boot. The kids struggled with getting it to hit the boot correctly. It was also very difficult to get the ball to roll from the stairway down the pipe correctly. If the pieces are not exactly right the leverage is off. If you can find an older version of this game, your children will enjoy it much more. I was disappointed.
It is a labor of love to put together! But my kids absolutely love it, so it’s worth it. They like to play with it mostly just to watch it go, more than to play the actual game. Once you put it together once, it’s easier and my 4 year old can reset the trap independently. He asks to play the Mouse Trap all the time, and this counts as STEM learning!
I will admit i never played mouse trap before as a kid. I bought this to bring to work. The box says easier to assemble and i see how the game has changed over the years. Why i gave it a 4 is because the trap was a little difficult to get to stick into the board and it took me 10 minutes just to get the boot on correctly to activate the trap. The trap once completed actualy does work and is fun to watch the marble go. I cant wait to play with my coworkers. another reason for the 4 stars is putting everything into the box so it closes afterwards isnt exactly easy to do.
