Pea âHurst Greenshaftâ is a superb variety producing huge crops of peas with a delicious sweet flavour. Reliable and easy to grow, with good disease resistance. Very good for freezing.Height and spread in a season, 75cm x 25cm (30in x 10in)RHS Award of Garden MeritGrows best in a deep, humus-rich free-draining soil in full sun. Direct sow peas outdoors from March to June, once the soil has warmed. In mild areas, some hardy, early maturing cultivars may be sown in late autumn for overwintering. Sow pea seed 4cm (1.5in) deep and 5cm (2in apart, in rows 75cm (30in) apart. Support pea plants with twiggy sticks, wire or netting as they grow, and use fine netting to protect pea crops from birds and pea moth damage. Water regularly.
