Epson really went all out designing the ink reservoirs refill ports and the refill bottles uniquely keyed caps that when placed on top of the ink reservoir's ports insures that all the ink goes into the reservoir each and every time. This Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5170 came with 127ml bottle of black ink and the color inks came in 70ml bottles. That is enough ink for up to 7,500 pages in black and 6,000 pages in color. The cost of the ink thru Epson is $29.99 for the 127ml black and $22.99 for each one of the 70ml color. It's such a huge savings when compared to buying cartridges that might yield 300 pages at a cost of $80 to $120. That's been my experience with cartridges.Other features include a 250 page paper tray, auto 2-sided printing, face-down-output for security, scan and fax. Its wireless, ADF and has a 2.4" color touchscreen display.printing at a rate of 17ppm black and 9.5 color ISO ppm with no warmup time all at a cost of 2 cents per color ISO page vs. 14 cents per page with laser toner. All of which can be easily controlled and monitored from your mobile device anywhere, anytime using this EcoTank's wireless capabilities.Did I mention that this Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5170 is designed with PrecisionCore Permanent Printhead designed to last the life of the printer.Built for speed, productivity and zero waste and space saving design this bad boy is ready for business.I am genuinely impressed with this EcoTank Pro ET-5170 All-In-One Printer and I highly recommend this printer for your home business or family use. 5 STARS all day."This is a review for theEpson EcoTank Pro Et-5170 wireless printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review"

This printer is performing well. I am very happy with the printer. Bought it about 4 weeks ago. Only rate it at 4 stars at the moment. If it is still performing well after 2 years, I will give it 5 stars. At first I was nervous at selecting this printer, given that there were not many reviews available. Finally I bought this printer for its ink saving feature and other features which tick the boxes. I have had the printer for 4 weeks now, and so far I am happy with the printer. The setup is easy and it connects to the wifi without any problems. Need to install scansmart in order to scan. Document feeder is available for scanning (not double side though) and I can save the image in my computer. It prints double sided. I wish there was a negative star I could give this printer!! It prints ok but I have a medical office that requires the scanning function to be efficient. I spent so many hours trying to get my medical records to scan without jamming. I tried one sheet at a time , 2 sheets at a time. I tried copying the records on better paper. Nothing worked. The scanner feeder is absolutely the worse I have ever used. Its a shame because the rest of the printer is not that bad. So after my frustration level was off the charts I went back to Best Buys and explained my problem. Even though I am a total tech member and have been since it began, I was told there was nothing they could do. I then looked up a authorized repair facility thinking perhaps Espon could fix this design ... MoreI wish there was a negative star I could give this printer!! I then looked up a authorized repair facility thinking perhaps Espon could fix this design problem. But the closest repair shop was 50 miles from me. So I decided what is my time worth? I decided to move the printer to the front office and let it be used as just a printer since the scanner feeder doesnt work. And I was foolish enough to purchase another epson tank printer hoping the scanner issue was only on the et5170. I bought the Epson ET15000 for another $550.00 just on Friday the 7/28/23. Lord help me I am sitting at work on a Friday night and this scanner feeder is also useless. So my suggestion to anyone that needs a printer, Its pretty good, but if you need to fax or scan on either of these all in ones. Don't Bother!!! Epson has managed to get over $1400.00 from me in less than a year!! Thats the last dollar I will spend on these products.

Print quality is good. The scanner is below expectations. The scanner driver has some inconsistencies; the Windows OS scanner interface leaves a lot to be desired. EcoTank system seems great, but the ink usage is quite substantial. The maintenance box could be a potential problem down the road - availability is my concern. Build quality leaves a lot to be desired - it is flimsy. The WiFi card inside does not support both bands – only the lower one which no one uses anymore. The scanner feeder does not support duplex scanning. This is by far the biggest minus. If you decide to use the ADF to feed the documents, the result will have streaks/lines along the full height of the document…. which renders ADF unusable. The documents will also jam in ADF if not aligned ... MorePrint quality is good. The scanner is below expectations. Bought this a few weeks ago and i like it. There are only a few features i wish were different but overall a good printer. I would like the paper to print with the printed side up as you cannot see if it actually printed since the paper comes out with the print side down. The reason it comes out that way is because the paper does not come out pointed towards the front of the printer, it comes out with print side down and pointed towards back of printer making it a bit difficult to remove the printed pages. Printed pages can be removed from the back of the printer or the side but that is not most preferred.
This printer is a bit more expensive that what I have purchased before, however the long term value of low ink costs was too good to dismiss.Cartridge printers are cheap because they get you on the cartridges long term. This one is expensive to start with, but the per page ink costs are miniscule, and it is better for the environment.I purchased this one through Epson's clearance center - so it was even cheaper and I've saved a printer from going to landfill. I believe it's refurbished, but it looks like new! There is absolutely nothing physically or visually wrong with it.Feature wise, this printer has everything you'd expect from an all-in-one. The setup has been very easy, the footprint is smaller than my previous printer. Overall I am very happy with this.
Was not able to get the fax to work even with Epson Customer Service. Also called my landline provider and confirmed it was not the landline. We were able to print with ease. What I would say about the ecotank is that the printing in black and white, also with color printing, the quality is okay but colors are not bright and crisp like what I get from a laser printer. I purchased this to replace my HP Laser Printer/fax all in one. My reason to replace that printer was because of HP and their ability to BLOCK all use of non-HP toner. That toner is $500 to replace all 4 cartridges. We liked the Epson in that you can fill cartridges with replaceable ink and it was going to be a HUGE cost savings and would have kept the machine had it worked for the fax. I returned this machine and bought a BROTHER 3770 Laser printer/fax. Yes the toner will cost more than the Epson ink but I am happier with the quality of the printing and not just settling. The savings on toner for the BROTHER compared with HP is significant.

This isby far the biggest minus. The only multifunction device that supports this functionality is their top of the line AU$1.2k printer in the Pro range. I'll leave this to others to think about and judge for themselves. Also, if you decide to use the ADF to feed the documents to be scanned, the result will have streaks/lines along the full height of the document.... which renders ADF unusable. The documents will also jam in ADF if not aligned absolutely perfectly - do not use the ADF to scan those originals/certificates.This brings us to the price. There is no doubt that Epsonhas taken into consideration the fact that we consumers will save on the cost of cartridge replacements; hence the fact that what should be an AU$200 dollar printer with a cartridge system, costs close to AU$700 with the EcoTank system. Ink is still expensive (AU$120 to replace all 4 bottles); the cost of the maintenance box needs also to be taken into consideration (AU$20).This printer (ET-5170) seems like a half-baked product withfew small and couple of serious issues, which should not be the case at AU$700.
It does what it needs to do:1. Prints both sides2. Scans well3. Photos are passable - i would only use this for things around the house and not to present to folks.4. The one off tray in the back is clutch, can add different paper styles without needing to empty the main tray.5. Best part - THE INK CAPACITY! i have no issues printing a 1000 pages so far, and its barely moved. Quality from the print is really good too (not photo good, but read the data good).
