This is a good pack for everyday use or for a minimalist hiking daypack. A couple of things that I noticed: looking at the pictures you'll see a webbing loop under the lower shoulder strap attachment where you might attach a little hip belt--the new 2017 generation of these does not have that feature. This pack doesn't really need a hip belt so not a big deal, but the pictures should probably reflect the new version. Another thing that would be nice to have is a hydration port. The pack has a sleeve inside that you can use for a laptop, which fits a hydration bladder nicely. The only way to route a tube out is through the middle point where the three zippers meet. This would allow the user to run some paracord or webbing through the attachment points on the bottom of the pack allowing a way to strap on a coat or whatever on the outside of the pack. As it is the daisy chain on the bottom has limited function. You can use the fabric loops near the top zippers for this but it is an awkward arrangement. Finally, I'm not sure why there are load lifter straps on this pack? Otherwise bomber construction, functional, roomy, and nice uncluttered looks.

This is a great EDC pack. The only thing a really wish it had were the elastic-topped stretch side pockets like the Street Fighter has. Otherwise it's a perfect size, with great entry from the 3Zip. One detail I really appreciate is that MR still uses large metal zipper pull tabs on their zippers. I wouldn't recommend this pack if it didn't have those to help make it easy to open and close. The top and interior pockets are nice, though the inside ones would be a little more useful if they were a little larger. And while the mesh they make them out of is useful cause you can see thru it, it's also sometimes frustrating as small items snag on it when you try to get them out. Lastly, and possible most importantly, it carries really well. The nice wide shoulder straps ... MoreThis is a great EDC pack. I bought this bag for deployment and specifically carry on purposes. Fits a few days worth of clothes, my laptop and iPad(in the internal sleeves) all of my cords and charging bricks, hard drives in the interior pockets and the top pocket, accessible only from the outside, carries all of the extra stuff I may need quickly such as knife, 550 cord, tape, markers, pens, notebook etc.... the bag doesnt lose its shape even when you cram it full of stuff. The zippers are awesome and the Y pattern for the zippers allows quick easy access to everything in your pack even the stuff on the bottom. The only thing I wish it had was 3-4 molle webbing rows on the sides so I can throw a Nalgene bottle pouch or something for extra storage. It does have one row of webbing on the ... I bought this pack for an 18-day whirlwind trip throughout Japan, visiting family and old friends. From the countryside of Shimane-ken, up to Tokyo (and little beyond that), it supported a lot of long days (and quite a few evenings) of hiking, taking trains and running around. It carried my goretex jacket, all of our necessary paperwork and documentation, a thick book and all my electronics (iPad, phone, etc.), change purse (Japanese coins are ubiquitous and heavy) and some small omiyage (gifts for our family and friends) . Plus a bevy of Japanese snacks and my water bottle! The design and the blue color got quite a few compliments. If you have ever taken a packed Tokyo train, you will appreciate the clean lines on this pack (you won't get hung up or snag as you ... I liked the tri-zip design, as it made it easy to get in and out of the pack and grab stuff that settled to the bottom. This pack did its job well!
The bag is very well made, but I expected that from Mystery Ranch. I have a history with their products going all the way back to when it was Dana Design. The build on the bag and materials are great. The downside is that it could use more compartments and maybe a couple of outside pockets. Also, the two sleeves that are used for a laptop and iPad are not padded or elasticized for protection, but it does lay against the frame sheet which gives it a solid base. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the product based on its quality, just make sure the bag layout will work for you. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase, but there were features on the North Face bag that I wore out that I would like to see on this one.
The construction of this bag is solid, the design is simple and functional. The bag is a great edc for city/office and is a great companion for traveling. I use this bag on a adv-motorcycle and it fits great. A atlas neck brace fits well with the bag and does not restrict any movement when on a motorcycle. The internal pockets on the bag are the right size, and all are easy to access, even with the bag being fully loaded. Also, the bag includes an internal frame, which carries a heavy load well. The frame and carrying straps are by-far the best I have ever experienced in a backpack. Mystery Ranch is a leader in load-carrying equipment for a reason. The bag fits the current items and is only 50% full, leaving plenty of room for extra items when needed. This bag fits: ... If you are already considering this bag, I highly recommend it. The three zip design keeps this bag from being a large sack, it allows for easy access of all items, regardless of how they are packed. I would gladly pay more money for this bag, the current price point makes this an easy bag to buy and use. Dont waste your time and money with all of the $200 plus EDC/Army look-a-like bags that are nothing more then a glorified man-purse. This bag is a great tool for working professionals.
I bought this bag about a month ago and have been using it daily. It’s my 3rd Mystery Ranch bag. Their quality is great and this bag will last a lifetime. At first I didn’t think I was going to be a fan of the Y zippers. But quickly I realized how great they are. They really allow you to pack the bag well and organize through the depth of the bag. There aren’t many pockets on the bag. One on the top that you can throw keys, a wallet, a cell phone, and a granola bar in. There are two mesh pockets on the inside, and then two pockets for a small laptop or tablet. If you are looking for a bag with all sorts of nooks and crannies and pockets for everything, this isn’t going to be it. However, I have had better success with carrying an Outdoor Research Backcountry Organizer pouch for all my cords and pens and the like. This bag is a simple bag that’s comfortable, will last forever, is backed by Mystery Ranch’s great customer service and will hold whatever you need for the day. I’m so pleased I bought this bag and highly recommend it.
This is quickly becoming my favorite travel/day pack. It does fit easily under an airline seat. It is relatively streamlined and very well-made. Zippers, in particular, are fantastic. I really appreciate the layout of the tri zip. The mesh pockets inside and the pocket in the lid make organization easy without being too cluttered. I feel like the material that mystery ranch uses for these packs is heavier and more durable than the average hiking style pack. It is more along the lines of a tactical pack material although it seems much better finished and clean in appearance. It saves overall weight by avoiding unnecessary internal dividers and redundant fabric. Mine is coyote and I love the brown color.
I use the Urban Assault bag as my laptop bag to get to-and-from work. It's got a lot of things going for it that you'd expect from Mystery Ranch. The materials are solid and the manufacturing quality is stellar. The Tri-Zip design is brilliant and allows you to use the bag as a top-loader for quick access while still letting you open the whole thing up for easy packing. It's a comfortable bag, too, though I think it could be made even better in that regard (more on that in a minute). Unlike a lot of other MR bags, there are pretty decent internal organization options: a large pouch for a laptop (or hydration bladder, but not both at the same time because that's how you end up selling your bags to afford a new laptop) and a smaller pouch just below it for ... A couple things keep it from being a five-star bag for me. The biggest are the shoulder straps. They are very narrow. If you look at the ASAP (the bag this one was likely patterned from), you can see the difference. It's a comfortable enough bag for light duty, but the straps don't feel wide or rigid enough for heavier loads. The inclusion of Mystery Ranch's phenomenal Futura harness (or the similar harnesses you're finding on bags like the Coulee 25) would make this thing perfect, but would also jack the price up accordingly. The only other minor thing I'd like to see on this bag would be some side pockets for water bottles. That said, this is a killer bag for moving stuff around the city. You get a lot of what makes bags like the ASAP so good without the copious MOLLE webbing, making this a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Rugged Quality, Form Fitting Comfort, Holds 15" Laptop, Breathability, Sternum Strap, and USA made. This pack is not USA made, but it met all of my other requirements. Laptop, 32oz Jug, Multi-tool, DJ Headphones, Cables/Chargers, Umbrella, Jacket, Lunch Bag... No Problem. The pack looks more tactical in person than pictures suggest which I appreciate, but realistically, I don't have any Molle attachments so, this is not an issue for me. I do have a LapTop, and for this reason alone I leaned toward The Urban over the ASAP, even though I would have paid more for USA Made. My only criticisms are not deal breakers: 01 They made this pack a one-size-fits-all, and as such, The Straps are unnecessarily long when you pull the pack high on your back. 02 The Grab Handle on ...
