The music sync feature is especially cool when paired with a designated color scheme and the controller placed near music source. The only con is that they must be mounted onto a flat surface otherwise the connectors may disconnect from their adjoining panels.

I didn't have a good idea of what these Nanoleaf Shapes Smarter Kits were when I decided to order them. I thought they looked pretty colorful and fun in the photos, so I ordered a set of each of three shapes (hexagons, large and small triangles). My wife and I were delightfully surprised by how neat these are. First of all, they feel solid and well made -- sturdy enough to hold up to our repeated rearrangements while trying to decide exactly where and how to install them. First of all, they feel solid and well made -- sturdy enough to hold up to our repeated rearrangements while trying to decide exactly where and how to install them. The Nanoleaf website has lots of examples of various installations but their installation instructional video is out of date with the current product design. We laid ours out on the dining room table and played with various arrangements. Plugging in the power supply and attaching the control module allowed us to see the shapes light up. Just touching them causes them to change color intensity and touching the control module can change the colors through all the hues of the rainbow. One clever feature of the power supply is that the plug portion that goes into the outlet just clicks onto the power transformer module so they can use different plugs to match the different outlets in other countries. One drawback to installing them is that they're designed to be installed with double-backed tape (included) but can't be installed on textured walls without a separate screw type mounting kit. The mounting point of each shape panel is in the center of the panel so it's hard to figure how you could get the center in the right place without using the mounting tape. We finally decided that mounting the shapes to a piece of hardboard or plywood would work best for us. The board can then be screwed to the textured wall without having to use the separate mounting kits.An app downloadable from Google Play or the Apple Store can be used to access more advanced programming features that allow the lights to be synchronized with music or programmed to change colors randomly. There's also a shapes planning tool in the app but it only allows you to work with one shape (either hexagons or triangles) at a time with no way to combine the two different shapes in the tool. Combining the hexagons and triangles is easy in actual use, so the tool is not much help. One additional somewhat annoying feature of the design tool is that it always starts with 9 of the selected shape when the Smarter Kits contain only 7 or 5 of each shape. Adding and deleting shapes is easy in the app tool but they all have to be one shape. You can also ask the tool to suggest different arrangements of the shapes. The installation manual is almost all pictograms which can be confusing.Although there are a couple of small issues with this product as noted above, they a minor compared to the overall quality and ingenuity of this product. We can happily recommend Nanoleaf Shapes to anyone who would enjoy some new and exciting lighting options.

I come home today after 3 weeks of normal use and i was about to turn it on and i noticed my wall was empty. Its because the panel fell AGAIN. This leaves me with a verg sour taste in my mouth. It sucks because i bought these for myself for my birthday and have had nothing but troubles. And now jm mot even sure if i want to put them up if theyre bound to fall and break. At this point i really would prefer to get a refund and buy something smaller or better. Sucks even more because i had been looking forward to buying this product for a year. Once they reviewed the video, they granted me the RMA and are shipping a new controller. I've never had to do something like that before and it was pointless and absurd.I strongly do not recommend this product and would encourage you to look into other brands. I have lost many hours troubleshooting Shapes and Lines and will take it all down if I run into another issue, regardless of the investment.

[Rewarded Review] Fun Nanoleaf Light Shapes!

This was my second set of Nanoleaf shapes light panels, and as before, they proved to be a cool piece of electronic technology which fueled my creative side and was just all-around fun to set up and play with.First off, there is a Nanoleaf app, which you’re going to want to install on your smart phone or tablet. There should be an update to the software after downloading the app and pairing the Nanoleaf to your device, so do that too.Pairing was relatively smooth using the QR Code on the card included with the simple Quick Start Guide, and was definitely an easy way to pair my new Nanoleaf hexagon shape panels to my smart phone via the app. However, it would have been nice not to have had to go online to find out more about Product Setup from the Nanoleaf ...Ā MoreThis was my second set of Nanoleaf shapes light panels, and as before, they proved to be a cool piece of electronic technology which fueled my creative side and was just all-around fun to set up and play with.First off, there is a Nanoleaf app, which you’re going to want to install on your smart phone or tablet. However, it would have been nice not to have had to go online to find out more about Product Setup from the Nanoleaf website. I’m very much a fan of having detailed information included with the device, for easier reference. It is convenient being able to turn the Nanoleaf smart shapes on and off through Apple’s ā€˜HomeKit’ app. I’m also able to use Siri for voice control with them. One of my favorite music artists is Lindsey Stirling, and her high-energy violin music is a perfect accompaniment to the rhythmic light show put on by these Nanoleaf panels. There did appear to be a slight noticeable delay in the sync between the music and lights, which did somewhat diminish the enjoyment of this creative (and fun) piece of electronic tech, but there may be any number of factors that could be affecting this.In comparing my previous set of Nanoleaf square panels, I did find there to be a definite improvement with the design of the connectors on these hexagon shapes. The adhesive tabs used to adhere them to the wall, also seemed to be better as well.I really liked the shape I’d created to be placed on the wall of my main room, living room area, where all my entertainment devices are primarily located. It reminded me of the aliens from the old school ā€˜Space Invaders’ video game. That said, I almost considered changing my mind and placing these Nanoleaf panels in my bedroom, creating a ā€˜makeshift’ headboard wall light sculpture, of sorts, inspired by what I’d seen others do with theirs. I can always try that out another time.As before, I absolutely love my new Nanoleaf light shapes! I chose the hexagons to compliment the square ones I already have, because they weren’t one of the basic shapes. And they blend together well. So, if you enjoy trying out electronic tech and customizing your entertainment spaces with fun, interactive devices, I can recommend Nanoleaf and their line of Shapes Smarter Kits. While the cost might seem a bit much, for what these are, it’s really not.

I’m really digging the Nanoleaf. I’ve seen them in restaurants before and assumed they were priced significantly more than the actual buy in is for a 7 pack of hexagons. It’s also why I haven’t invested in the Phillips hue style bulbs, because while it’s cool having the ability to change your lights to all kinds of fun colors, I seriously am skeptic of how often I’d personally want anything other than just the color of a regular light bulb that, you know, makes it so you can actually see things in your room.BUT this is different because it’s essentially a piece of art intended for your wall. It’s an interactive light poster, if you will. It’s an interactive light poster, if you will. And instead of having to figure out what color you want to set it each time you turn it on, Nanoleaf has made it dead simple to pick from any number of ā€œscenesā€ that cycles through all kinds of colors (including ā€œChristmasā€ which is, yep, red, green and white), meaning you can mostly just set it and forget it. Even better are the scenes that respond to sound. These are great and work surprisingly well. I like leaving the Nanoleaf in one of these scenes, because then the light is off when no one is in the room. (Also, if you have a young child prepare for them to flip out at this feature and spend hours yelling and making sounds to see the lights come on.)I have a dedicated theater room in a basement so it can get really dark in there. I like having a little light on while watching a movie or show and these lights are so bright that I have to back the brightness down to under 25% when watching. Otherwise, it’s just too much even with a soft color palette. But on that note, it’s so great to be able to have dim light that’s NOT white for this scenario. And Nanoleaf have all the off-whites covered. The app is good. Not great - definitely have had a few buggy moments in the Android version (firmware never downloaded) and an overall better experience on an iPad Pro. Still, it’s got a lot going for it and I’m excited to play around with creating my own scenes for specific use cases. No issues connecting to Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s HomeKit. This is the first time I’ve used a smart device with HomeKit and FYI you can access different scenes for the Nanoleaf right in control center on your iPhone/iPad - which is terrifically convenient. Getting everything running via voice and Alexa has been a bit hit and miss, but I’m inclined to blame Alexa here. Need to test it out more.Overall, really cool product if you’re looking to spruce up a blank wall in a room and like the option of adding some color without having to paint. Application to the wall was super simple - the hardest part is just deciding how you want to do your layout. Would a remote be nice? A remote might be nice but then also one more thing to have to buy batteries for. I like it a s is.

These lights are bright and colorful. They’re easy to install, and the controller works flawlessly for detecting the overall shape and coordinating scenes. This earns the product two stars.Unfortunately, I can’t give any more stars than that because the Nanoleaf app is abysmal. The UI is cluttered and unintuitive, settings are hard to find, and it frankly just doesn’t work. It’s very hard to get the lights to connect to the app, and when they finally do, they will constantly disconnect and reset themselves. The app is a waste of time, and since apps are the main draw of smart devices like this, I can’t rate it any higher than two stars.Thankfully, the lights can be used without the app. This means no remote on/off features, and you will be limited to a handful ...Ā MoreThese lights are bright and colorful. The app is a waste of time, and since apps are the main draw of smart devices like this, I can’t rate it any higher than two stars.Thankfully, the lights can be used without the app. This means no remote on/off features, and you will be limited to a handful of built-in color schemes. But the app is so terrible that I’m just glad I can use them at all, considering how expensive they are.TL;DR- think long and hard before buying these expensive smart lights that don’t really work as smart lights.

[Rewarded Review] Great with a major flaw.
7 February 2023

Setting them up and installing them to the wall is simple enough. They work great and can get VERY bright. Bright enough that I decided to name my set of Nanoleafs ā€œFlashbangā€. My only issue with them is that they worked great for several months until suddenly deciding they wanted to freeze and not respond to the app. After several failed attempts to factory reset them, I contacted customer service and they sent me a replacement controller. Just today, I installed the new one and it seemed to work, then froze and didn’t reach the app, then suddenly refreshed itself or something and is working normally again. I’m hoping it continues to work because I really do love these light panels. Nanoleaf customer service gets a great score! They were very helpful

[Rewarded Review] NanoLeaf Shapes Hexagon Smarter Kit
22 December 2020

Just received my NanoLeaf Shapes Hexagon Smarter Kit today and have been testing it out. Inside this smarter kit comes, 7 Hexagonal shaped light panels with 7 mounting plates, 8 linkers that connects the panels to one another, a controller, power adapter, and double-sided adhesive tape. Also included is a Quick Start Guide and a design insert with a few layout examples. Given you only have 7 panels, your layout designs are pretty limited, however, you can purchase additional panels to build-out larger designs.Initially I attempted and failed to create my layout design on my bed, but later I actually read the instructions and watched a couple of videos online that showed the proper way of installing the panels on the wall with the double-sided tape and adding the ...Ā MoreJust received my NanoLeaf Shapes Hexagon Smarter Kit today and have been testing it out. Also included is a Quick Start Guide and a design insert with a few layout examples. Given you only have 7 panels, your layout designs are pretty limited, however, you can purchase additional panels to build-out larger designs.Initially I attempted and failed to create my layout design on my bed, but later I actually read the instructions and watched a couple of videos online that showed the proper way of installing the panels on the wall with the double-sided tape and adding the linkers to the panels once they're lined up on the wall. After creating a simple design I downloaded the NanoLeaf app to my iPhone (which is also available on the Google Play store for Android phones). The app guides you in making sure all the panels are connected properly and continues through the rest of the setup process including creating an account and connecting it to any smart home networks you make. It works with Apple HomeKit as well as, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and IFTTT.After getting the app up and running, you can power up the light panel either via the app or the controller that MUST be connected to one of the panels. My set noticed that there was a firmware update for the panels and took about 3 minutes or so to download and install the update. After updating went into the discover tab which lists a ton of different scenes that you can download and startup. Watch your lights start to dance and change colors based on which color scheme you select. One of my absolute favorites is using any of the color schemes with a music note. These allow your panels to respond to either your television or any music playing nearby. If I only had one gripe about the panels so far would be that although this is just a smarter/starter set, I wish there were more linkers included; just to make connecting them to one another a little more secure.

[Rewarded Review] Worth the money

I purchased the starter nanoleaf hexagons, because i love ambient lighting for my downstairs. I have to say these have been the brightest RGB lights ive ever purchased, the colors and the different lighting effects are amazing. The shapes you can design with hexagons and the triangles are limitless. My only complaint is the how they are hung up on the wall the two sided tape they provide does a good job but does not come off the wall easy. Maybe have the 3m pull tab tape might be a better option. But other than that if you want something that will light up the room or rgb color effects for ambient lighting you cant go wrong with these
