Lots of steps to achieve volcano, however occupied my toddler and partner for hours. Requires patience and skill as per age guide otherwise. Great booklet on volcanoes we have added to book rotation. Messy fun fizzing and recipies for home once ran out of supplied.

The whole process took a little bit too long for my 4 year old so this is probably more for older kids who understand that things take time to dry.First you had to mold your volcano and let it dry. The mold does not snap together very easily. Then you paint your volcano and let it dry. The paint provided was awful. The tubes were cheap and one even burst open on us.Finally a few days later you get to make it erupt. You mix some powders, put a little in your volcano and poor in some water. The volcano is very small, not even 12 inches tall.If you're hoping it bursts out of the volcano, you're in for a let down. It just fizzes up and dribbles over the sides. Even my four year old was like, was that it? I thought at least initially it would fire up a bit.If ... It washed off my patio easily. You can reuse the volcano and it teaches you how to make the lava mix at home which is nice. I dont think I'd waste the time to do it again unless for some reason my son asks me to.All in all I'm glad I didnt pay for it because I would have been annoyed, even if it was $5, thats still steep for what it is. You can probably look up how to make a cool one online with common household stuff. Dont waste your time/money.

This experiment was a lot of fun for my 5-year-old. It works great if you use common sense. When putting together the plastic mold, you can physically see that it is not liquid tight (pretty obvious). Therefore, you must make the mold mixture somewhat thick so it doesn’t ooze out the sides too much. Use less water. The eruption was a bit less exciting than I expected, but my son was super excited. We learned a lot and really enjoyed breaking open the geode that came with the volcano. Also, the little booklet provided some great information and my son actually retained some of it, even though he is a few years younger than the recommended age. We enjoyed this kit, despite the mess haha.

My 4 year old loved this after developing an interest in volcanoes. There’s a few steps involved which made it more exciting, waiting for the volcano to set, painting it etc. The eruption was great and there’s tips in the booklet to keep you achieve a more dramatic lava flow.
This was great fun to do with my daughter. There is a great little book included which is educational for kids regarding volcanoes and the different types and activity. We made the volcanos with the included supplies, painted it with the included paints and then make it erupt with the included mixtures. It was great fun to do and my daughter loved it.
Since my child is under the 8 yr recommendation for this, I just had him watch. The instructions say not to breathe in the powder, but it poofs up such that I'd recommend wearing face masks, even when pouring carefully. Then, after at least two minutes of stirring, the mixture was still quite lumpy. A LOT pours out the side of the volcano mold & went through all the layers of newspaper to the floor we were working on. I don't have high hopes for the rest, since this part was not what I expected or what the instructions led me to believe.
Mold doesn't seal well, plaster poured out from the sides of the mold. Followed the directions to a T, so I don't think it was an issue of consistency with the plaster. Disappointing because my daughter asked Santa for a volcano and this was the best Santa could do this year. But we have the mold now and the eruption packets, so we'll redo it with playdough. If I were to do it again, I'd get more rubber bands and make sure the seal is extra tight.
The plaster was easy to mix and there are clear instructions. Add one cup of water. Use the included rubber band to hold the mold together. I also used some tape to hold the seams together. The mold was fun to use. We put on our face masks to mix the plaster because it’s super dusty. You can either let your plaster mold air dry for two days or put it in your oven on low heat. I’d rather not bake plaster in my oven so we opted for air dry. My 9 year old is excited to paint the volcano. Impressive little kit. It comes with a very informative volcano booklet. A pumice stone and a little Geode. The volcano mold can be used again and again if you go buy more plaster.
Got this to do with my 6 year old. The mold was hard to put together and the popsicle stick when wet was so flimsy and hard to use. As soon as we mixed up the plaster it immediately got hard as we were pouring it into the mold. We tried pushing it down but it was already solid. It was also supper warm to the touch I had to put away and gave it two days to fully dry. Unfortunately we didnt get to do the experiment part because the cup at the top of the volcano where you are suppose to pour your chemicals was not completely formed. The reading material and the rock samples were cool. I still let him paint his volcano. I would say if you get this to do with your child you mix it and pour that sucker into the mold before all the plaster clumps break down. ( I had made a ... MoreGot this to do with my 6 year old. I bought this as a birthday gift for my 10 year old nephew, he is very excited to get started on it. So it has not been put together. Although we have opened and checked out the parts. It looks well put together and easy to actually put together. We are excited to start.
