This was a 50th birthday gift for my boyfriend, who used to play college ball, but blew out his knees. He loves this game! I've even found him playing during work Zoom meetings. So many of the special features that give your player a life off the court are wonderful. He's so into it that for Father's Day we got him his own custom NBA jersey to wear when he plays. During the pandemic, this really helps us as a family with our basketball withdrawal. Our daughter also plays basketball, and we look forward to the day that there are options to make your own player for the WNBA. She and her dad love challenging each other to WBNA and NBA games. A real birthday gift winner. He keeps thanking us for this gift.

As a huge NBA fan and an avid gamer, the NBA 2K series has been a yearly "must-buy" for me since 1999 (on the Sega Dreamcast). I love the technological and graphical advances every year, and while this easily the best basketball game on the market, some changes definitely need to be made to ensure that the overall experience doesn't turn off & turn away true basketball fans. This year, more than in the last few iterations, gameplay exploits and "cheese" (speed boosting, poor collision detection, shoddy AI on both ends of the ball, HORRIBLE transition defense, to name a few) was way too prevalent and easy to trigger, making gameplay sort of "rinse & repeat" and not true to authentic NBA basketball at all. And as much as I enjoy the virtual card-themed MyTeam mode, there is far too much emphasis on microtransactions and "pay to play" (I'm looking at you, CONTRACTS!)....I'm not a fan of that as a business model. All that being said, I still sunk many hours into this game and had fun (most of the time) while playing it, but I would love to see a better, more polished product with less of a focus on microtransactions in the future. I still am (and will probably always be) a 2K and an NBA fan, but something has got to give eventually.....fix your game, 2K!

I think the NBA2K franchise is trying too hard. It used to be the best NBA game out there, but it's going downhill. I buy NBA2K mainly for the My Career mode and it has significantly gotten worse since 2K15. 2K20 My Career mode is much better than 2K19's absurd story, but it's still a dumb story. Whatever happened to just working your way through college and getting drafted in to the pro's? Why do we have to have some elaborate movie every year? To justify the $60 price tag? Remember when the NBA 2K was cheaper and better than NBA Live? I would love to go back to basic basketball games without all the extra crap and pay $20 less. It is fun. I enjoy playing the games, but sitting through the unbearable story is ridiculous. Just let me play basketball when I spent $60 ... MoreI think the NBA2K franchise is trying too hard. I love the NBA 2K series. I played all the way back on the 360 and have owned pretty much every year’s edition since then. I’ve always gotten them for Xbox though.Since I find that I have more ability and time to play the Switch now, I bought this iteration for the Switch. It’s a great port. The graphics are really good - especially considering the hardware it is running on. It’s a great basketball game for the road. The problem is that it runs at 30fps, not 60fps like the other consoles. This might not sound like a big problem but everything feels slightly laggy. For casual play it’s fine. If you’re looking to play this as your main basketball game, however, it’s harder to recommend.I still have lots of fun with this version of NBA 2K, because it is amazing to ... If you’re sitting at home in front of your TV the vast majority of the time, however, then I would recommend sticking with either the Xbox One or PS4 version.
NBA 2K has long passed NBA Live as the top tier NBA basketball videogame. And with their dominance, they've also experienced the hate that often follows a brand that is the dominate #1. Many reasons for this, but mostly it's because there are so many people who play/own the game and we all know the negative opinions are louder than the positive. NBA 2K has deserved most of the negativity by being one of the industry's most prevalent "pay to win" with microtransactions. Add to the weak servers and you have many, many frustrated fans. However, if you're one to not do much online play, the franchise mode (My GM) is the way to go. The fluidity of the gameplay is excellent and the realism is there both on defense and offense. It's a fun game, period.
I've always been a fan of the series but something feels off this year with the game. My main issue is with the "feel" of the players. While playing in MyCareer, it almost feels like my player is on skates. Even with all of the VC that came with the pre-order, I can't seem to get to a point that my player moves well enough to keep up on offense or defense with the CPU. The control doesn't feel as tight as it has in the past, although the animations can be aborted better than in previous versions. The story mode is pretty entertaining but short.., and it helps if you're a Lebron fan. Don't want to ruin anything, but it's clear his company produced the story. I do love the inclusion of the WNBA and it's fun to play around with.In summation, as a grown person with a ... I do love the inclusion of the WNBA and it's fun to play around with.In summation, as a grown person with a fulltime job and family, I really would like the game to be a little more "pick up and play" friendly. I don't have 4 hours a day to practice moves and work on "my stick game". I want to be able to have a little fun in the hour and a half I get to myself every night after everyone hits the hay. In the first episode of 2kTV, one of the Pros complains about previous versions being too easy to pick up and compete with the Pros. I don't care about competing with them, I just want to be able to enjoy playing around on something I spent $80 on.
This is actually the very last rendition of NBA 2K all over purchase. Have you gotten to the game again few years ago, thirsting for basketball during the off-season. Well it was cool, it is extremely frustrating to see how the game is lacks any real evolution throughout his lifespan. It’s extremely disappointing to see how much they have a banded an under developed the switch conversion. I’d like to see just playing on PlayStation or Xbox. But I can’t wholeheartedly support a company that is willing to put a much lesser Version of their product out justice grab more money. Besides that the VC pay for play has gotten a bit out of hand, and I’m hoping NBA live can make a come back so we can all play basketball for free again.
Nba 2k20 is the only basketball game based off the NBA for this season.\n\tThe game has different modes for all basketball fans. It has play now for the NBA and WNBA for people that want to play a quick game with either your friend or against a computer. Its most popular mode is MyCareer which allows you to create a player and go through a storyline while playing in the NBA. You can get endorsements and also gain fans. Inside of MyCareer is The Neighborhood which you can shop for virtual items for your player or compete against other people online. Another mode is MyLeague which lets you be the GM of an NBA and try to get your team to win the championship. It will only cause stress on you as the online servers are not good, the game does not reflect realistically on basketball, and to get good on the online modes you will have to spend money on top of the money you already spent on the game. \n
I played (and really liked) 2K19, so I was eager to get stuck into 2K20.I'm mainly a My Career player and don't play much of the online stuff, so the mechanics and things are smooth, it's fun actually playing ball... But the huge focus on VC and grinding to make your player better - which has been a thing for at least a few years but has been dialled up *a tonne* this year - makes it an incredibly frustrating game. You play a game, train a couple of skills (usually repeating the same drill over and over because you're targeting a badge), it levels up a tiny amount, rinse, repeat. It's super monotonous and it seems that 2K are trying to bore you into spending money on VC in order to fast-forward your progress. I don't mind spending a little on VC to cut some of ... It's super monotonous and it seems that 2K are trying to bore you into spending money on VC in order to fast-forward your progress. I don't mind spending a little on VC to cut some of this out, but your money goes nowhere near as far as it has in the past. This coupled with the forced advertisements everywhere (e.g. You can't skip a timeout until you've seen the Gatorade bit at the start) makes it feel like a money-grabbing 2K19 refresh. The neighbourhood, the shops, everything feels much the same, so you wonder what was actually achieved since the last release. There was certainly grinding in 2K19, but it's so much worse in 2K20 that I tired of it really fast and didn't play it past the first couple of weeks. I think that this is a turning point in the 2K franchise and they really need to step up the game next year if they want people to continue buying games in this series. I won't be buying 2K21. EA has a big opportunity to fill this spot.My advice is to avoid this game and buy 2K19.
This is an offline review so keep this in mind when reading. I'm not an online gamer, so I'm just interested in playing basketball with my friends. I do play a little online, but not so much other than the quick matches, mostly with friends. The gameplay is amazing this year and that's what I look at when playing nba 2k every year. 2K19 had serious flaws on the court, in the AI, glitches and just didn't seem on point. But NBA 2k20 is 19 on caffeine.. It's Silky smooth, much better than 19. The AI seems very smart. The shooting feels perfect. I feel like the AI is smart, but doesn't need to cheat or cheese to win. They added some legendary classic teams this year, I believe 5 new ones. Mind you, we still have missing players. Just to name a few, Chris Bosh, Jason Terry, Rasheed Wallace, Moses Malone, etc... The band aid for this, you can download community rosters to fill up the gaps of the missing players. They have a pretty deep create a player this year, and the faces look better than ever. I saw a guy make chris Bosh on 20 and it looks nearly like him. The commentators will call out their names too, so that makes it more awesome. The graphics look probalby as good as they did on the spectacular looking nba 2k14. Which most fans considered to be the best looking basketball game ever. The courts are shiny, the lighting is perfect, and the models are on point. Commentary is still good. The WNBA even has their own commentators, so that's nice fresh addition.I did play a little bit of my team and I was hooked. I think you will enjoy it too. You can gain XP and unlock many things and no real currency is required and while the option to spend real money is there they dont push it. I unlocked Michael jordan card after a few games and I’m making a ton of virtual currency and having a blast doing it . This mode in my opinion is worth buying this game. Think of it as ultimate team for basketball . If you don't like grind, don't be tempted to buy VC on my career. That’s the mode where you might be tempted to spend more real money. But if you only care about playing basketball with a friend or just want to have fun, you can't go wrong with nba 2k20. I love it.Online I had trouble connecting, a lot, mind you this was at launch, I hope they patch it up soon for you online fans. Peace to all.
