I really think that this is one of the most underrated NFS games. It's not without it's flaws, but I found the gameplay to be second to none. I remember the very first time I every played this game - it completely blew me away. Compared to other racing games, NFS the Run takes a page out of the old 80's Outrun point-to-point style racing games. I don't mind racing around a repetitive track, and I enjoy open world racing games, but IMHO the point-to-point format is far superior. The game actually feels like one giant race, and you feel that there is a progression as you move from one area to the next. The opening stages are exhilarating - you actually feel that there is a reason why you're racing, and it really adds to the excitement. The opening stages are exhilarating - you actually feel that there is a reason why you're racing, and it really adds to the excitement. I've never really cared for the whole "earn street cred by challenging other racers format", and NFS the Run throws you right into the middle of the action. It's true that, like most racing games, you won't have the fastest cars early on, but there are no duds or bombs that you have to put up with until you've been able to save up/win better vehicles. Right from the first race you're given a choice of 3 very different, but capable cars. Like most NFS games, the sensation of speed is awesome, and there are truly some memorable scenes throughoutthe game. I also have to give praise for the great music, especially the main theme that occurs throughout the campaign. In terms of flaws, to my mind there are only two. The first flaw is that the game is pretty short. If you're really committed, and you've played these sorts of games before, you could probably finish it in approx 4 hours. There are single event "challenge" races, where you can unlock cars/items/etc, and the multiplayer aspect works really well, but if we're just talking about the single player "story mode" then you're looking at about 4 hours of gameplay. The second flaw, in my opinion, is that the story loses momentum during the second half of the game. Not enough to make you lose interest, but I certainly didn't have that same level of excitement as I did in the early stages of the game. I realise that this is a racing game first and foremost, and EA were breaking new ground in a sense here, but I just feel that they could have put a bit more effort in. Those are the only two significant flaws, but I wouldn't let that put you off this otherwise awesome game. And considering that you'll only be paying a fraction of the original retail price, it's pretty damn good value. It's a shame this game wasn't better received, as I doubt EA will be making a sequel anytime soon. And if anyone is interested, my all-time favourite arcade racer is Midnight Club 2.

I have a few "need for speed" games and for me, this is one of the best, You have to interact with the game as well as driving, and that makes it a little bit different. I'm near the end of the game and I have got a bit stuck, But I will get there.

I've been enjoying NFS games since the first one (Pentium 100 times). Sure there were quite some bad games in the series, but The Run is not among them. First of all, it looks great - thanks to Frostbite engine which powers Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter, for example. Secondly, there is a "story" called "The Run" which is quite interesting - you try to beat 250 other racers by participating in different activities (gaining places, battles, checkpoint races etc.). There are also story races where you, for example, try to loose the mob. All in all - it's really fast paced and enjoyable. Scripted moments sometimes impress. Thirdly, I like the handling. It's not as easy as in Hot Pursuit and not real, of course (not Forza for sure), but it works well with ... MoreI've been enjoying NFS games since the first one (Pentium 100 times). Fourthly, there are many different locations (you are going through the States), so you won't get tired by looking at the same scenery. There are other strong points too. I like the fact that difficulty affects the number of checkpoints, so some races are quite challenging if you select a hard difficulty. As for some drawbacks - there aren't many. I personally got a bit tired of similar races. And I would love to drive more cars (usually no point in changing these - I used only 3 during the story and beat everyone easily). There are more things to mention, but these are really minor. All in all it's a great game. Highly recommended.

This game was fun. Up until arrving into Las Vegas in The Run portion of gameplay. Up to that point it was fun, entertaining and exciting given the improved graphics, sound and line-up of cars. I play on PC and would not recomend other buyers playing on this platform to buy this game. Reason being: the game was not ready for PC release. For example, having to press buttons on the keyboard that dont correspond to onscreeen intructions is frustrating. It also does not work to achieve the necessary actions a large majority of the time. And I am not the only user having this issue; I know of at least one other person having the identical problem. We have been unable to prgress beyond the arrest scene in Vegas. And I am not the only user having this issue; I know of at least one other person having the identical problem. We have been unable to prgress beyond the arrest scene in Vegas. Furthermore playing in the challenge series is limited such that you reach a point where you can go no further as you need to win races in and beyond Vegas. Being at that point we can only race in rougly 15% of the races, racing against each others time. Because of this I rated it 1 out of 5. Had there been no problem with keystrokes in the 'cut-scenes' to open other gameplay would have necessitated higher ratings. The game also locked-up and or crashed more times than I can remember.
I have been a fan of the NFS franchise for quite some time. This is probably one of the worst games I have ever played and an embarrassment to other NFS titles. While the scenery as you travel from the west coast to the east coast is pretty, it gets somewhat repetitive. You smash into one guard rail or the side of a mountain, you've smashed into them all. The huge issues come when you have played it for more than about 30 minutes. The load screens are ridiculously long, the cars handle like garbage (you will fish tail out of control at even the slowest speeds), the cut scenes interrupt the game play experience in abundance and add nothing to the game whatsoever, and the game plays like the developers were just too lazy to come up with interesting ways to make it ... MoreI have been a fan of the NFS franchise for quite some time. It makes no sense that an innocent bystander, so to speak, would swerve in front of you for absolutely no reason allowing the opposing racers to pass you. There is also the idiotic nuance where you can only change cars at a gas station located on the racing routes. So if you have the wrong car for the course, you either have to deal with it, because their aren't really any upgrades for the vehicles to make them any better, or hope that there is a station to swap out your vehicle. The developers should be ashamed of themselves for this pile of junk!
First the game. Gone is the tuning your own car, as found in all the previous NFS games, and to be honest, I quite like that. All that's left for the main campaign is to follow the fairly dramatic story with a background to match. To be honest, this story is one of the best I've played in quite a while, and thank god they got rid of the dumb "escape from police for 5hrs continuously from the older NFS. Some stages really get your heart pumping. But that's where the good ends, and where the faults begin. the game is extremely buggy, I personally suffered from the "Stuck at 99%" bug during installation, then the "crash at stage 8" bug. The visuals are nothing special, especially considering their using the same Frostbite 2 engine from BF3.The game play becomes repetitive, the game unbalanced (found some of the earlier stages much harder than the last), the cars hardly differentiated in terms of performance, Logitech Wheel support is stuffed etc.. It had the potential to be an awesome game, and the potential is still there, assuming EA is willing to release a patch or 2000. I gave it a 3/5 because it's a racing game that I actually enjoyed (when it worked) in a long time otherwise it'll be worth -1 for the effort EA actually put into it (or lack of). Perhaps it would be more enjoyable on console, where the bugs I suffered don't exist.
Since I've burned 2 arcade-style racing games with scathing reviews, perhaps I should post reviews for what IMHO are good games. NFS:HP(2010) is certainly one. Even though I bought it when it released [price a bargain now] but hadn't gotten around to it (stuff happens...), and though I played it after playing through NFS:MW(2012) and Burnout Paradise, it holds up well: excellent graphics, excellent car selection, very good gameplay, some very good courses, and for the most part [the reason any game is played] - downright fun. Gravy on the biscuit: you can play as Racer OR Cop.It has some frustrating flaws: most egregious of which are the time-trials - nearly all time limits are much too severe for the courses, which you tend to pinball and careen around anyway, so ... MoreSince I've burned 2 arcade-style racing games with scathing reviews, perhaps I should post reviews for what IMHO are good games. Gravy on the biscuit: you can play as Racer OR Cop.It has some frustrating flaws: most egregious of which are the time-trials - nearly all time limits are much too severe for the courses, which you tend to pinball and careen around anyway, so gold frequently is out-of-the-question without dozens (literally) of attempts: some blatantly don't merit the effort, but some are tantalizingly close. Another is the absolutely myopic response of the cops: all those racers, yet only one - the player - is singled out. At least this is Burnout style racing, so all opponents can be shoved around and taken out - many stunning Kodak moments of that. One more gripe, a flaw all too common to the genre: I wish designers would get off their sadistic, infuriating habit of putting pedestrian vehicles in the wrong places at the wrong times...Events load quickly, and recover from wrecks at impact location just as quickly; some position gets lost, but only intermittently was it an obscenepenalty; and the AI opponent vehicles' skills do exhibit a lack of perfection. The cars handle extremely well, with barely any sloppiness (much the opposite of NFS:TR), so staying on course is just enough of a challenge. Car inventory is weaponized(!) and wondrous to the point of fantasy, with informative voice-overs to describe them - an interesting inclusion, but more along the lines of bragging and advertising than anything else (selling points - seriously? This working stiff can't afford any of 'em...).A variant of FreeDrive is allowed, so you can relax and look at the scenery, discover pitfalls and shortcuts, practice skills, or just enjoy the speed (that long, straight, desert road in the Veyron - sigh), but the designers went about it rather sloppily, making you choose a starting route from a menu, and not having a map as you drive. From what I could see, there's no penalty for not being an online player, though many features are slanted to social networking. Finally, something I haven't given consideration before, until recently, is the soundtrack - a very good one for this game: choices complement the action well, and no odd out-of-left-field selections among them; I've gone as far as to look some songs up for download. This game is a lot of fun, but not perfect, with some invective-spewing controller-hurling moments; in the end, a game very much worth keeping.
I've always liked the idea of the Need for Speed games more than actually playing them. The physics felt off and I never liked the switch to an open world setting. That's why I like The Run. The game is incredibly compelling, what with the looming clock, and it does a great job of making you feel like there's more at stake than just winning the next race. I also like the fact that it's not open world. This may diminish the replayability, but it makes what's there more enjoyable for me. It's hard as heck too, on the hardest difficulty level. The quick time events are kinda lame, though. They could have found a better way to conduct the out of car sections. But for what it is, it's enjoyable. Check it out of you aren't thrilled with open world racing games like me.
need for speed the run, the game follows a simple plot of a man, wanted dead by the mob, trying to earn back his freedom, in this case a cross country street race with 250 other drivers. the game looks visually stunning, the background vistas, and car details are great. the game starts out really great, but it quickly becomes extremely frustrating.... i'll give you an example of what i mean, the game limits you to 5 "resets" per race, reseting you back to the last checkpoint you past. the game will automatically reset you if you go even slightly off the road, i can not tell you how many times i lost a race in the last courner because i went slightly off the road, (i mean literally, in some cases, 1 wheel slightly off the road, reseted me) as well, the game ... Moreneed for speed the run, the game follows a simple plot of a man, wanted dead by the mob, trying to earn back his freedom, in this case a cross country street race with 250 other drivers. the game looks visually stunning, the background vistas, and car details are great. the game starts out really great, but it quickly becomes extremely frustrating.... i'll give you an example of what i mean, the game limits you to 5 "resets" per race, reseting you back to the last checkpoint you past. the game will automatically reset you if you go even slightly off the road, i can not tell you how many times i lost a race in the last courner because i went slightly off the road, (i mean literally, in some cases, 1 wheel slightly off the road, reseted me) as well, the game automatically resets you if you "wrecked" your car, which will happen ALOT, most of the guard rails in the game break away, but usually (and for an unknown reason as well) have a solid part somewhere in the middle, which you will hit and total the car. and unlike most other arcade racing games, hitting cars, even slightly, results in wrecking the car, this isn't just a result of bad driving, cops, mobsters, and other racers have pushed me into street posts, other cars, or off cliffs. After awhile the game becomes AGONIZINGLY FRUSTRATING! another thing, the cars all feel strage when you race them, the exhotics (you Lamborghini's, Audi's. and others.) all feel slugish, and severly underpowered. and barely get to 160. as apposed to unrealistic other cars in the game such as a 1969 boss 302 mustang, (which is easily fast than the lambo) will do 195-200 (which is not even possible in real life) this doesn't sound like a big deal, i loved racing muscle cars in this game. but when you racing on a snow covered mountain in an AWD nissan GT-R and your losing to 3 0's elcaminos all going 200 mph..... this is a BS moment in video gaming. its also extremely short, (not counting the hours of resets i had to do) you could easily beat it in 4 hours for the main campaign despite all the hair=pulling frustration, i did find myself coming back and back.... its a good game, just frustraingly hard (from a person who plays dark souls easily....) i would STRONGLY recomend (if you haven't played it already) to buy Forza Horizon, i 15$ for a sealed copy of NFS the run, and horizon could be picked up in the 25-32$ range.... if you can, PAY THE EXTRA, forza horizon is a ALL ROUND better game, better cars, better system, better songs, better everything. if you can pick it up for under 10$ used.... then its a deal, this game wasn't bad by any means, it was just anoyingly hard at points. 2.5/5
I used to love the original "Need for Speed" game back on the Playstation 1. This game kind of reminded me of it. fast paced driving/racing game. decent graphics and good car control. easy to play yet challenging. You are basically in a cross country race from LA to NY, (I am only about halfway through right now). I like the idea that it is not track racing, the fact that you travel the country is cool. different environments, (weather, mountains, open roads, night/day courses etc) make it even more fun. Only downside is that they have not made it backwards compatible to play on the XB1.
