As a longtime owner of the Nest Cam IQ Indoor Cameras, I've found it to be an excellent investment for home security. The 4K video quality is outstanding, and the facial recognition feature is incredibly accurate. Integration with Google Assistant has also been a great bonus. While the subscription costs can add up, the peace of mind and advanced features make it well worth it. Installation process is super easy. Night vision and motion detection is top-notch.Overall, it's a reliable and sophisticated security camera that has consistently met my expectations.

First off, this is one beautifully designed camera. It seems to be expertly assembled with no corners being cut during design and manufacturing. The box it is packaged in is so nice, we found ourselves admiring the work that went into the packaging. That aside, the camera itself has a nice weight to it which should assist in stability. The unit comes with the camera pre-mounted onto its base that allows the user to position the head and aim the camera in almost any direction. It mounted easily on our tripod base for testing purposes.Once we received our Nest Cam IQ WiFi quickly and were able to set it up in about four minutes. Our household already had the Nest Thermostat which is controllable by the same Nest mobile device application. The web application is very easy to use. It requires the user to create an account with Nest as the camera comes with a 30 day trial of Nest Aware. Nest Aware is the web interface that allows the user to take full advantage of the Nest Cam IQ's full capability including 30 days of recordings stored off site. The web interface is programmed to somehow automatically detect the optimum internet connection and adjust the cameras image quality accordingly. This setting is user adjustable to achieve higher image quality if so desired. We tried the best option and were very happy with the image quality. The issue that it caused for us is that our wireless router or something about our network was very laggy when the camera was set on the highest image quality. It is not a problem with the camera, it is a problem on our end to sort out the wifi bandwidth issue. We have now had the camera installed for over a month and overall are happy with it. During the first week, I found myself logging onto the Nest web page to review potential footage out of curiosity only to find it captures the family coming and going as the camera is aimed at the front door. The mobile application did not work well for us as it too seems to require a very robust internet connection. A couple of items for consideration before you commit to this camera system is that it is entirely wifi and web based. There is no way to store recorded footage on site. The entire system is dependent on a very solid internet and wi-fi connection being up 24/7. The last item to consider is the recurring cost for the Nest Aware subscription. It is substantial if you begin adding cameras to the system. The Nest Cam IQ series is only valuable with the Nest Aware subscription. Without it you are not getting the full capabilites and thus the value out of the product.

This camera is thrown into the box and doing nothing. The issue with it - Google support and the system. These devices often have problems with connection and Google asks you to completely remove them from the system and reinstall. This means- all indoor and outdoor devices need to be temporarily accessed from the back for QR code and then reestablish the system. Last time it was all smoke detectors, outdoor mounted cameras, etc. One outdoor camera which was just few months out of warranty- died and Google denied replacement because they discontinued the product (meaning that I would need to replace wiring, etc to some new $400 product from them). I ended up removing them all and installing Lorex product. Don’t waste your money

Ive been going through G branded cameras to keep an eye on my Disabled son who also occasionally gets seizures and needed an extra pair of eyes. Well it was an expensive research for me to buy different types of cameras from G and finally decided to get one of Nest Original Cameras which was at the peak of the everything they have made. I’m beginning to develop a love / hate relationship with my Nest Cam IQ, Nest Hello doorbell, and Nest Support.3/26/19: See update on Nest Support issues. I can say without a doubt that in 40 years of developing software and managing support technicians that Nest Support is among the worst I have ever dealt with.First — the Nest Cam IQ and Nest Hello are remarkable feats of engineering that have elegant and easy-to-use user interfaces and, combined with a Nest Aware subscription, offer incredible security and value.HOWEVER — there are issues with two-way sound not working (mostly with the Nest Hello) and with the Activity Zones feature triggering incorrectly (on my Nest Cam IQ). I have spent almost a full day of my life preparing examples and communicating with Nest Support, with no resolution.Nest Support has multiple “tiers” of support technicians. Every one I’ve spoken to has been very nice, but frequently they are either unaware of the intricacies and defects of their product, or powerless to resolve those issues.I’ve been going back and forth with one Nest Support tech, Sarah M, for over 8 weeks on an issue with the Activity Zone feature not functioning properly. The quick explanation is that I have ONE activity zone defined (a rectangular area where I want to receive notifications if there is movement detected), but I will receive numerous notifications for movement INSIDE that zone when in fact there is only movement OUTSIDE that zone. NOTE there is an option to enable/disable “outside of a zone” notification— I have appropriately turned it off to no avail. As a serious app developer, I’m technical enough to accurately describe the issues I’m seeing. But frequently I feel I have to “school” Nest Tech Support on the intended, documented operation of their product(s).I have a 15 Year-old boy with autism and so the Nest Cam IQ plus Nest Aware subscription was intended to function as a safety tool: if my son needed help, he could simple walk into the area I defined as an activity zone, and wave. Right now, I get multiple notifications when there is movement around but not in the activity zone, essentially creating dozens of “false alarms” every day.The app also sometimes fails to connect audio when the “talk” button is pressed. This is more of an issue with the Nest Hello doorbell, but can happen with the Nest Cam IQ. The solution is usually to force-quit the app, or in extreme cases, restart my iPhone XS Max.Despite these problems, overall the product is great and Nest Support keeps assuring me that their engineers are “looking into these issues.” However, as I can see on Nest’s own community pages, my issues are not unique which begs the question of why it has taken 8 weeks just to get my case to engineering for correction.3/26/19: UPDATE ON NEST SUPPORTIt has been an additional month, and I’ve gotten nowhere with Nest Support. After I connected with a different senior support tech, John C, I thought I was finally connected with someone who actually understood my issue. But after no follow up, I found I had been reassigned to the same support tech, Sarah M, that had done absolutely nothing for 6 weeks. It’s beyond insulting, and I’m trying to connect with someone — ANYONE — that runs Nest Support, or possibly an executive at Nest to try and get someone to treat my support request with some level of seriousness.
The Nest IQ Camera is a substantial upgrade on the previous Nest camera, but does come with a higher price tag too. The camera is larger and white with a gloss black face containing lens and microphones with speaker at the rear. The base is built-in and sturdy with a standard tripod screw mount underneath. At the rear is a recessed slot for the power cable (USB-C to USB-C) and you get a long white cable (3m) which connects to a round USB-C power supply.Initial setup of the camera was exceptionally easy for me as I already have multiple Nest devices. After opening the app on my Android phone, I chose add a device and scanned the QR code on the base on the camera. This was recognised and I was promoted to press the button on my Nest Protect. After opening the app on my Android phone, I chose add a device and scanned the QR code on the base on the camera. This was recognised and I was promoted to press the button on my Nest Protect. After this all configuration was automatic and took 3-4 minutes in total. Having used other brands of security camera, I can say Nest have the setup through the app working well - a good job since you cannot set it up any other way.In use the camera uses a huge amount of data to record into the Nest Cloud (720p takes around 100Gb a month and the highest quality is 400Gb compared to 30Gb and 300Gb respectively for the old Nest Camera). Image quality is excellent as expected from the new 4K sensor. The face detect feature is good but I have not found a way to bulk multiple faces together if they are the same person. The one feature I found flawed though was the Zoom & Follow. In my experience it zooms and follows after the person has left the frame..To view recordings you need a subscription which adds a monthly cost which needs to be factored in (this was the same with the previous camera too). There are 2 paid options - 10 day and 30 day. You can opt for the free option too but this only give live feed and the last 3 hours alerts only, not the whole recording.Overall a substantial improvement on an already good camera and recommended if price is not critical.

However, it is not clear, how much this subscription service would cost, after the trial ends.If you opt to not subscribe, you will only get free snapshots that are stored up to 3 hours before they expire. The product comes with a two year warranty.
The stand-out features of the IQ has to be its smart design and high-quality video output. The camera took around 5 minutes to add to my personal Nest Network (having first created a Nest Account at nest.com). Another nice feature is the Nest can be configured to stop monitoring if at home, this is determined by geo-fencing my home (location of my iPhone and linked to the location on a map). One point: when first setting up a nest account it's recommended to enable 2-step authentication. One drawback with the device is that Nest provides two tiers of cloud storage starting at £8 / month for 10-day video subscription. A free subscription only allows up to 3 hours of playback.Overall the IQ is relatively simple to setup. I can remote view the room via a browser (Safari, Edge etc.) but I'm still in two minds to subscribe to the lowest storage tier. On the flip-side the quality of the video is excellent and would pick up all the details if there was ever a break-in. If the camera was stolen then the footage remains in the cloud securely. I'd like to think Nest would look again at the subscription pricing.

Configuring the device with a number of simple steps.Video quality is excellent and includes Night Vision, however, even on the highest setting this can appear a little pixelated. The camera is impressively quick to spot movement, my wife popped her head in the door during setup and the camera spotted her instantly. There is a built in speaker and microphone enabling you to hear what's going on in the room and to talk in to the room if you so desire. The camera can pay attention to specified Zones (e.g. a babies cot), it can zoom in on action to highlight detail, remember 'familiar faces' (when it spots someone new it asks if they're familiar and adds them to this list) and can work with geofencing to automatically enable alerts when a phone leaves the house. To get the most out of the camera requires a 'Nest Aware' subscription, starting at £8 a month. Without the subscription you're limited to reviewing recorded video of events, rather than scrolling through a constant stream. If the camera fails to log something as an event, you're out of luck. I personally found the interface for reviewing clips to be a little confusing too.Overall, the Nest IQ is a good unit, it is of very high quality and offers genuine peace of mind, however the slightly confusing interface and extra costs that are required to get the full functionality offered rob of it top marks.
