We were running it on an older AC router (non-mesh) and notice periodic episodes of high ping rates and lag. Setup was super easy after scanning the QR code on the device and following simple step by step instructions on your phone to get it all connected. I used to setup all my older routers using the IP address to configure them and that took at least 10 minutes after I was accustomed to the process. My first time took 30 mins. After it was up and running I ran some speed tests in comparison to my older AC router using a laptop without Wifi6 and with Wifi6. W/O Wifi6, the download speed increased about 20%. W/ Wifi6, the download speed increased a staggering 200%. And with this Mesh system, all episodes of sporadic high ping rates during gaming all disappeared. Would recommend to the novice networking person as well as the pros.

Easy to setup and use. Great solution!

TLDR: I have a single access point that just wasn't enough for my WiFi needs. This included a few client stations and my Ring alarm/camera system. Replaced my setup with this MESH system and strong signals everywhere. What I liked: I literally downloaded the app to my smartphone and followed the prompts. It automatically downloaded any updates to the firmware and took care of the rest. Where some of my Ring cameras no longer show the 'poor signal' indicator and accessing live view is much faster. The user interface is easy to understand for the most part. You don't need to be an IT person to figure out how to setup the guest network. So much easier and there are visual cues indicating the progress and success of the connection. The form factor is unobtrusive and does not stand out with any external antennae. Instructions CLEARLY state to keep the boxes away from any obstructions such as fish tanks and walls. It actually made a difference.Overall, RECOMMENDED!!!!!

When I picked up Mesh system I didn't have a clue of how it was going to work I just knew that I needed better security and that I knew the Netgear name, and understood them to be somewhat of an elite company when it came to that kind of thing. Before you know it followed the instructions in the box as well as online in the app got the router set up with the two satellites placed strategically in the house to offer better wi-fi throughout the house and offer a separate ethernet connection for whatever TV you might want to hook up with ethernet using the satellites and I wish the easiest thing I think I'd ever done and the difference in the speed and the feeling of security as well as the security itself was brilliant I was really overwhelmed and blown away by it. I know that when I upgrade soon to a whole new system it won't be some other mobile phone company for otter I'm connecting the mesh to it'll be a Netgear system itself and it's going to cost a little more than when I paid for the T-Mobile router that I have to mesh system currently connected to in fact it's going to be 10 times as much but I can honestly say it's worth it and I would highly recommend this mesh system to anybody that's concerned about security it doesn't have a lot of money to spend you won't be disappointed I know I wasn't. Saying that gear is another Wi-Fi internet security company is like saying Rolls-Royce is another car company. Or perhaps Boseis another stereo speaker company. Coca-Cola is another soft drink company. I honestly think the Netgear brand stands above all the competition just like those other elite brands I mentioned and the nighthawk system and that connects to it online couldn't be more user friendly. Thank you Netgear. Thank you God.

Nighthawk Tri-band mesh review

I’ve tried a lot of different mesh network systems, Linksys, tp-link, google, AmpliFi, but none of them did the job of reaching the garage, which was literally 30 feet away from the router. Granted there were a few doors in the way, but nothing that should’ve impacted the Wi-Fi that extremely. So I tried the Netgear Nighthawk tri-band mesh system, and I was amazed at how strong the signal was, and how far the signal could be picked up from. The download speed due to the added strength almost quadrupled the speed, and I was also finally able to get Wi-Fi in the basement. The features and and built in Armor protection is a great added feature especially if you are security conscious like I am.If you have dead spots in your house, or your current mesh system is too ... MoreI’ve tried a lot of different mesh network systems, Linksys, tp-link, google, AmpliFi, but none of them did the job of reaching the garage, which was literally 30 feet away from the router. Very easy to setup, even though as an IT professional I like to manually tweak certain settings, but with this system you don’t need to, it does all of the work for you. Will definitely buy again, and will recommend to all of my friends and family.

The three-piece mess unit is very reluctant to work as required. The main unit must be placed between the two satellites or one or both satellites will not connect correctly, and periodically will drop out. Also, this equipment almost requires line of sight to actually work as a mesh system. One of the main problems that I had was my house has plaster walls and is over 2000 ft. This seems to have fixed the issue for now. But time will tell if the system is robust enough and continue to operate correctly and not drop satellites out. I have about 20 Wi-Fi devises throughout the house. Those Wi-Fi units such as TVs, Alexa and other devices are all connected to the main unit and the satellite units do not recognize the devices even though they are within a few feet of the individual satellites. He explained to me what that issue was, but I really didn’t understand his terminology. Good luck.

I ordered the Netgear Nighthawk Dual-Band Wifi 6 Mesh system. I was supposedly upgrading from a Nighthawk AX8 to increase my coverage. The 1st thing that I discovered was that it really isn't compatible and that it is better to just use the Router that comes with the Mesh system. I was hoping to use my AX8 because it has the ability to have 4 ethernet connects on the back of it. The Mesh system only has 1 ethernet port. Not sure why they would do that, but they did. So now, eventhough I have 1 gig internet speed coming into my wired house, I have to deal with the max that the Mesh system has which is considerably less. Setup was a horror show. It would show the satellites working and then the lights would turn amber and they would go offline. It took me 3 or 4 tries ... MoreI ordered the Netgear Nighthawk Dual-Band Wifi 6 Mesh system. Jury is still out on whether they will. I kept my Nighthawk AX8 in case I end up having to go back to that setup. So overall, nothing great here.

Got this when my IP gave me a new plan which doubled my speed for 4 dollars a month less.My old mesh system was throttled at only 100mps. It does exactly what it said it would do. We have a 2 story 2700 square foot home, and using only 1 satellite, NO DEAD SPOTS.I also got the protection Nighthawk offered at 1/2 price for one year, with a one month free trial. It’s incredible. Every streaming device in my house is constantly monitored for any outside incursions. Plus, every time a family member steps outside of their vehicle when they come by, I get a notification that their phone, watch etc, is now on line, along with a “no threats detected” message from the automatic scan. The icing on the cake…. With speeds up to 1.8 gigs, any upgrades I may make in the future will not require a new mesh system. If you’re looking at a powerful mesh system, you won’t go wrong with this!

easy setup and excellent coverage
16 October 2022

We have a fairly complex setup. Our cable for the house comes in with two modems; one is for a hard line business phone. The other is wifi only internet. We also have multiple, additional hubs for various smart things.I was interested only in working with the cable modem wifi. Our house is three levels, 3400 sq feet and we have a lot of wireless devices (around 35-ish in all).Setup was a breeze! I hardly needed my nerd glasses although at 70 years old, standard glasses were adequate. In less than an hour I had everything connected up and logged on.The app provides more information that I will probably need but if I ever did have an issue it seems quite intuitive and easy to use.Our previous system (an old Netgear system) wasn't keeping up with the coverage we ... MoreWe have a fairly complex setup. The addition of a mesh system meant that now we could install the security cameras at the farthest points that we have always wanted, and now we don't have a lagging tv signal either. I liked that I was able to re-name the system during the setup as well.Perfect coverage, super easy to use. 5/5 stars!

powerful wifi in a small package
1 May 2023

We have a large ranch with a basement. I bought this to replace a wifi router and 2 access points. I connected the satellite to the main router using ethernet because the house was pre-wired. Now the coverage is better using only the router and one satellite. The wifi signal is stronger throughout the house than I was getting from an R7000 and an RAX40 being used as access points. One other thing is that the units are small and don't have unsightly antennas sticking out.I don't do gaming or large amounts of data transfer but it works well for video streaming with multiple TV's and computers.Only reason I didn't give it a 5 is there is only one ethernet port on the satellite. I needed additional ethernet ports at the satellite end so I had to run the satellite ... MoreWe have a large ranch with a basement. I bought this to replace a wifi router and 2 access points.
