You are forced to use a combined SSID: you can't split out the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels. Our internet was poor at our local fire station in South Florida. we were using a combination of 3 old Wi-Fi routers, one main and two set up as access points. I believe one was even a Wi-Fi 4 model so they struggled with 12 people on shift with an average of two devices each person connected to the Wi-Fi both in terms of coverage and speed. Our speeds were 6 mbps down and 1 up so it was a terrible experience until we finally upgraded to this Orbi RBK753S and upgraded our ISP service. We decided to purchase three sets so we have 5 satellites currently connected to one main unit all via Ethernet since the fire station is wired for various purposes and two spare main RBR routers and one RBS satellite not in use as backups. Easy setup, took less than an hour for our particular setup. And we can now watch Netflix and stream music where as before we were lucky to even be able to send a work email.

Unfortunately, of the remaining two bands, there is no way to split the bands, they're broadcasted as one SSID, with the router bandsteering as it deems appropriate. I would have liked to at least have the option to separate the bands.* Port forwarding and DHCP reservation settings aren't available in the app, and the web interface for these features are a bit clunky, but that's not a huge deal, since it's not like I need to do it very often after the initial setup.The Bad:* In a word, lack of features. This system is missing a lot of features that I really expected from a $600 router.* Its "QoS" setting is really just a Speedtest using Ookla's API. You have the ability to set data limits, as well as disable internet access on specific devices, but cannot prioritize bandwidth per device. Customer service representatives have said that the router utilizes an "Automatic Dynamic QoS", but there's no way to turn that on or off, and no settings to tweak.* Traffic information is nonexistent. Not only is there no way to tell what device is using the most bandwidth, there's also no way to view how much bandwidth is currently being used.* You can set a custom DNS server, but if you're using something like a PiHole (Which is what I'm using a custom DNS server for), the PiHole data is nearly useless, because of a quirk with the way this router handles DNS requests. Rather than broadcasting the PiHole's DNS server to each device, the router broadcasts itself as the DNS server, forwards the requests to the PiHole, then relays it back to the client. So from the PiHole interface, it seems as though all the traffic is coming from the gateway device. Makes the statistics all but useless.Conclusion:I really wanted to like this router, and I'll most likely keep it around, purely because I value the mesh coverage, but am greatly disappointed in the lack of features. Netgear seems to have made this router to be good for dead simple plug and play setups, assuming that end users won't need features beyond the absolute basic things like a guest network.The Orbi app is slick on the surface, but pretty much useless after the initial setup.Google Wifi has many of the missing features of this Netgear system, at less than half the price. Since many of the missing features could be software/firmware updates, I am holding out hope that Netgear will come to their senses and implement these things that would elevate this system from being a run of the mill "decent and simple" mesh system to a be a "powerful and feature-rich" system.To be honest, I’m not sure who this system is meant for. For users who just want to blanket their home in reliable wifi, and won’t really dive into the settings apart from setting an SSID and password, there are far cheaper options from Google, Amazon, Linksys, etc. For power users, this system is lacking a significant number of vital features. Ultimately, the hardware in this Orbi system is excellent, providing the best coverage and speed of any mesh system I’ve used to date. Unfortunately, the system as a whole is crippled by a very limited set of features, and fledgling firmware/software.

Purchased less than 1 year ago. Worked great until one of the satellites continued to turn itself on and off with flashing lights. When I called tech support they advised it was a fixable issue, but it was going to cost me over $100.00 to fix it. Hey here is a novel idea… When you purchase a tech product, why don’t you offer free tech support to back up your product? Tech support is less than perfect as well. I have called on several issues, but only 1 has been resolved. Often just getting through to tech support can be challenging, and because of overseas language barriers, simply receiving correct help can be quite challenging, if not impossible. Full disclosure. I purchased NETGEAR Orbi 753S from Costco not Amazon, because Costco offered 1 year of Free Technical Support not NETGEAR’s 90 Day standard Technical Support contract. After Unboxing and setting up, I already had my first call into Technical Support, as the product was not plug and play like advertised. I purchased NETGEAR Orbi 753S from Costco not Amazon, because Costco offered 1 year of Free Technical Support not NETGEAR’s 90 Day standard Technical Support contract. After Unboxing and setting up, I already had my first call into Technical Support, as the product was not plug and play like advertised. Many devices that use 2.4G not 5G had issues trying to connect to system. Trying to get help from Tech. Support is impossible! After long wait times on hold (30 minutes to over 1 hour) you will hit a call center based in a foreign country, so language barriers exist and are quite prevalent. The system seems to be very quirky, as it may work for multiple days and weeks flawlessly, but then for no reason, quite working altogether or have satellites drop in and out causing your wi-fi connected devices to stop functioning properly. The system is set up with warning lights on the router and the satellites to warn you of issues with the system, but unfortunately ghost lights do occur according to Tech. Support, and they have no solutions to fix the issue. Costco 1 year Technical Support is not worth the paper (Box) it is written on, because after the 90 days I have spoken with multiple technicians who want to charge you on a per call basis to fix the issue, which never really seems to get resolved. Unless you are a programmer, or no something about programming, Technical support often leads you through going to a login, and completing multiple steps (writing code) which is supposed to fix the issues, but never does. NETGEAR is interested in the initial sale of the Orbi, and then signing you up for a service contract after the free 90 days of support that can cost anywhere from $140 to $220. That may work for you, but when you have a product that is warranted for 1 year, try getting your product repaired or replaced for free when Technical support won’t even talk to you because you have not signed up for their service contract. This is pure extortion on NETGEARS part because they know that they have a product that will need Technical help at some point, and if you are unwilling to pay for it, you basically have a paperweight not a router with Wi-Fi extenders. DO NOT BUY! This issue seems to be prevelant on all NETGEAR Routers and Extenders!
I bought this about 18 months ago, shortly after 802.11ax was released. I was upgrading from the Orbi AC2200 so this was supposed to be a "direct replacement" with 802.11ax (WiFi 6) and performance was incredible and range was far superior.Well, that's where the good news ends. I only had a short time with it the first day, but noticed a number of DNS issues. The next day I figured there was probably just a setting I forgot and changed the DNS servers - tried 1 dot, Google, etc as static DNS servers. IF you can set a static DNS server *on the device* you can fix it for that device but that's hardly a fix!! This issue lies in ALL Orbi 750 and 850 systems, as well as the RAX/RAXE Routers.It's too bad, I've been a Netgear fanboy since I bought the "original" Nighthawk router (later renamed the AC1900 Nighthawk) but just ordered my first non-netgear router in like 15 years and loving my Asus for $100 less and better performance!Goodbye Netgear! You've lost a VERY loyal customer for life.
I’ve had this for 3 months now and I am absolutely thrilled to bits with the system. WiFi is now something I have forgotten about, no more frustrating blind spots, no interference and absolutely no drop off in performance.My option was this or a Netgear Nighthawk with 5 WiFi extenders, I now just have Orbi and two extenders covering my 3 storey 200 year old solid stone construction house. In the past 20 years I have tried everything and spent a fortune, Orbi just works from the minute you plug it in.Pleased is an understatement.
I bought the 753S a few days ago from Costco to replace the Orbi RBK43 which I had previously. My previous Orbi system started having a few issues with kicking people off the network randomly and I wanted to see if I could take advantage of some greater speeds with my gigabit internet so I decided to upgrade. Overall, I would agree completely with one of the previous comments about a big lack of features. I am especially disappointed to learn that Disney Circle is not included in the router firmware. I still have almost a year's subscription left on Circle and I just figured that for the "top of the line" router when you're paying $500, it should probably come with some of the basic things offered by cheaper systems. However, not only does it not have Circle, but there are almost no parental controls whatsoever - it is super limited on how you can block, filter, or limit time for certain devices. For someone with younger kids and teens, this might be a deal breaker and I am considering whether or not I need to just return this and go back to my old system. In addition, I have been having issues with a couple of our devices not getting an internet connection at all - it has kept saying "no internet access" while connected to wifi on my laptop randomly for no apparent reason. I did contact support and they helped me to made some modifications in the wifi settings (which again like the previous user said, are extremely limited as to what you can control) and we will see if this works. Lastly, I was able to get the same speeds if not better on my old Orbi system. I am only getting a little over 200 mb/s using wifi when I would sometimes get 400 on my older Orbi. Considering I paid a lot of money for an upgrade and considering I am not even coming close to the 900 mb/s + that I should be getting in addition to the other issues here, I must say that I am very disappointed and may return.

Understanding the broadcast pattern and optimal layout would have been nice because there was some little trial and error with the placement of the router and satellites to get our devices to use a nearby satellite and achieve higher performance. I ended up with the main router in my basement near the center of the house, a satellite on the first floor at one end, and on closer to the middle of the house on the second floor to get fast connection throughout the house. The mobile app did not address this and the web app (when I could finally reach it) did not support either from what I could find.I did contact their Support via webchat and the person was helpful, but near the end, I was disconnected and today I saw that the issue was open and waiting for feedback from me. It was not the ideal first customer experience.Regardless, the mesh setup is much nicer than having multiple separate networks in my house, and the network performance is better than before while my son is hammering away on his Xbox. Not quite what I was expecting for $500 but I am hoping that there will be improvements in the near future to address these shortcomings.
I finally bought the Orbi AX4200 system model #7535 from Costco for $499 that came with 2 satellites.Must haves in mesh system – Ethernet on satellites (need to connect Playstation 4 via Ethernet, because the PS4 wifi hardware is woeful), triband (I hate the buffering when streaming videos, so wanted to insure less traffic flow), and at least 3 router/satellites to cover the house (If I am going to buy a system, I want to ensure that it covers every spot in my house). Everyone likes to stream video content, 2 heavy gamers, and video conferencing for work for the two adults at the same time during the day.Old vs. New – Old was a single AC router that came from Frontier/Zipley Fiber. New is the Orbi AX4200 with two satellites, so three hotspots. The BIG PLUS is that the Orbi worked without a modem or router. The Frontier/Ziply Fiber network connected directly to the Orbi base router and worked. Now, I can stop the $10 monthly rental fee on their router once I return the router to them.(using Samsung Galaxy S10+ that is Wifi AX) Speed test on early mornings when everyone was asleep on different mornings (before and after): location one (has one of the Orbi satellites in the room) – 234/864, location two (has one of the Orbi satellites in the room) – 468/720, location three – 65/453, location four (former Frontier router spot but in the same room as the base Orbi router) – 866/720, location five (room with old Frontier router and at the Orbi router spot) – 702/960, and location six (97/408).Summary – The Orbi Ax4200 did its job. With every spot with at least 408mbps is something that I can live with. The security software is a great plus. Once the trial period ends, I will sign-up for it. On the first night, the software alerted me that my daughter visited an anime website with a spam hyperlink. Everyone saw a speed bump. The greatest thing is that my wife can now view her streaming content, so she is happy and not complaining about the price of the purchase. I am not a tech professional, but can read directions, so the set-up was effortless. The Playstation 4 connected via wifi with not issues.Question: Which I don’t need to, but if I wanted to add a satellite or two (for backyard and deck), can I? I could not find on the box and website the total number of satellites that the base router can handle.
