Just got it. I'm most familiar with the Neumann M147 and U87 but I found a great deal on this so I went for it. Initial impressions are all very favorable. It has a little weight to it. Very well made like all Neumann mics. Took a minute to figure out how to switch patterns and pad settings but once you get the hang of it it's easy enough. I've only used it on vocals and I have to say it sounds great. Definitely has that classy Neumann sound. Also, a close friend of mine highly recommended it. I normally use a u87 on my vocals but needed something that could handle louder sources (really loud singer I'm working with). An all around very handy microphone. Sounds good and neutral on just about anything. There is definitely a noticeable difference between it's big brother the U87 but it's also half the price. So as long as you are realistic it's a very handy mic to have in the arsenal and I have been happy to hold onto mine long term.

The shock mount had to be purchased separately but is very necessary. The mic is very sensitive so handling noise is noticeable and potential mic stand vibration will probably transfer to the mic. The mic build quality with a shock mount make this a great addition to your collection. I would use it in a recording studio or in quality live shows.

I was really blown away by the timber and transient response of this mic and how it handles sibilant and mouth sounds. I also had AKG 414 delivered but didn’t even bother unboxing after I tried this Neumann and sent it back. It’s expensive but YOLO :)
Neumann TLM 107 Multiple Pattern LDC. TLM stands for 'transformer less' which means you get uncolored sound. So if you pair with a Manley, API, Neve mic pre, it imparts the sound of the pre transformer and is cleaner, clearer. more transparent. So if you have a high quality source of any type, this will capture it.
Overall:I purchased this mic because it has the Neumann brand, only! I have used it in conjunction with my Discreet 8 and it has a very true and flat sound but still the Neumann quality and signature PHATNESS! The twist is that I use it with Antares Mic Mod EFX and it transforms into the modeled sound and still has exceptional detail and fullness. In short, when I want a Neumann, I have it but when I want a C800 G, it is more than convincing. This mic is great in more ways than one.
