The 57/40 is the answer to a question that is simple, yet astronomical in scale. Despite its legacy of unassuming, almost effortless versatility, the original 574 was a unique design for its era, a hybrid road/trail design that didn't lean on visible technical features. The 57/40 approaches the hybrid concept with a few extra years' worth of design developments to explore, and creates a new perspective on an iconic design. An overall sleeker silhouette provided by a slimmer last combines with a range of exaggerated features. The unique midsole combines a flared take on the classic 574 construction with ‘90s tech inspired details, while the mudguard and eyerow feature the distinctive wavy embellishments of the ‘80s.

It was a bit of a pain as this is the second time I tried to order these shoes. When I finally got them, I was actually a bit surprised that they arrived. Upon opening them and trying them on, I noticed that the front of the shoe had creases in it 🤦🏽♂️. This is my first time using your service and I'm sure it's an absolute pain in the neck to return these shoes. However, the idea of having a brand new pair of shoes I've tried for over a year to acquire have increases in them is even more of a pain

Obviously if you're buying these it's for the style first. They delivered on that front. But I wanted to be able to go on my walks (trail, pavement) with them. I've been wearing them for a few weeks on walks and they're just plain heavy. No bounce, no cushion, and it's a clomp foot-strike. Sort of like a ski boot. So if you're hoping to wear these for long stretches of time, skip. If you want to wear them with cute jogger sets to run to the grocery store they're a big YES.

once i figured out the sizing, i was all-in on the 57/40s. i strongly suggest getting a half or full size larger than your normal sneaker size (normally a women's 5-5.5 but a 6 in these). on day one i took them for a 6+ mile walk through the city with no rubbing or fatigue at all. since the sole is chunkier than most, these are also decent in rainy conditions keeping your feet dry and out of puddles. only downside is that the tread gets VERY slick on wet metal (e.g., grates, manhole covers, textured curbs), so be warned.

I bought the 5740 recently and absolutely love them. I have pretty narrow feet and typically wear 10.5 or 11. I ordered an 11 and they fit really well. Definitely a little extra room if I'm wearing thin socks, but even then these shoes still feel great.I'll definitely be rocking these for a long time!
I am a women’s size 11 and the men’s 9.5 was the perfect fit (size 9 would’ve been small). I do have a wide foot, so the top of the shoe was tight with slightly thick socks but I tried thin socks and that seemed to do the trick. Hopefully with wear they will stretch slightly. But wow they are comfortable!
Sneaker are great. Use them mainly for comfort and commuting to and from work.I do have one suggestion. A deeper clearance area in Livermore would be great for your business. I live near the Vacaville, CA and at times they have a stronger selection despite the foot traffic being considerably lower. Overall, I will continue shopping NB.
Originally bought some Nike trainers from another site but they were far too narrow. Tried New Balance as have never owned a pair before and they're far more comfortable and slightly wider. I have a bad ankle and these offer good support whilst not minimising on style. They also arrived in a reusable bag which was a lovely touch!
While these shoes looked great, they are a pain to put on. They are my exact size but the base of the shoe around the heel is so stiff that it’s impossible to even get my foot through. Very disappointing that Nordstrom Rack doesn’t offer exchanges, and didn’t include a receipt to allow for in store return. Shipping also took longer than intended
I am a total NB junkie. I own so many pairs and literally wear them every day to work with trousers or dresses. I was looking for a gray pair to replace my 574s and these are it. They are slightly chunky and the variety and gray tones and textures make them so cool. I’m usually a size 8 in NB women’s (6.5 in men’s) but the 6.5 was sold out, so I tried the 7’s and they fit great.
Overall I like the 57/40 Lunar New Year but what's with New Balance sizing.I own the 996, 574 and this 57/40 and they are all sized different. I find it very confusing. The good thing is New Balance has an easy return/refund policy. But I would prefer buying the correct fit the first time. I exchanged these for 1/2 size smaller.I have to say New Balance makes very comfortable sneakers, after buying my first pair a few years ago I can't wear anything else.
