The New Balance 5740 is the answer to a question that is simple, yet astronomical in scale. Despite its legacy of unassuming, almost effortless versatility, the original 574 was a unique design for its era, a hybrid road/trail design that didn't lean on visible technical features. The 5740 approaches the hybrid concept with a few extra years' worth of design developments to explore, and creates a new perspective on an iconic design. An overall sleeker silhouette provided by a slimmer last combines with a range of exaggerated features. The unique midsole combines a flared take on the classic 574 construction with β90s tech inspired details, while the mudguard and eyerow feature the distinctive wavy embellishments of the β80s.

It was a bit of a pain as this is the second time I tried to order these shoes. When I finally got them, I was actually a bit surprised that they arrived. Upon opening them and trying them on, I noticed that the front of the shoe had creases in it π€¦π½ββοΈ. This is my first time using your service and I'm sure it's an absolute pain in the neck to return these shoes. However, the idea of having a brand new pair of shoes I've tried for over a year to acquire have increases in them is even more of a pain

I already have a pair of NB sneakers in red/white and blue and wanted another pair that could be worn with other colors. I chose the sea salt and rose because I thought it would be a little different but basically fill my need for a shoe that could be more universally worn. When the pair arrived, I was taken aback, somewhat, by the overall size of the shoe. This pair is much larger than my first NB pair and quite frankly, they are so large that they just don't feel right on my feet. The photo of the shoe makes the sneaker look much more trim than they really are. So, the overall effect for me was one of disappointment. It's a good shoe. But it is a little clunky.

once i figured out the sizing, i was all-in on the 57/40s. i strongly suggest getting a half or full size larger than your normal sneaker size (normally a women's 5-5.5 but a 6 in these). on day one i took them for a 6+ mile walk through the city with no rubbing or fatigue at all. since the sole is chunkier than most, these are also decent in rainy conditions keeping your feet dry and out of puddles. only downside is that the tread gets VERY slick on wet metal (e.g., grates, manhole covers, textured curbs), so be warned.

Originally what attracted me to this model was the similarity to the 2002D model. These are very different but at the same time as comfortable. The material used on this model is amazing. Feels silky smooth and high quality. I hope the black model gets restocked because I need those too. Thank you New Balance for not getting comfortable and being crazy.
Love this shoe... fits true to size and suede is amazing quality. I wish they didn't use synthetic leather on a few small parts of the shoe and used a new outsole/midsole for the shoe to give it a more aggressive look. Only part that was bad was the glue they used on suede around the top lace holes isn't strong enough and peels up. It's stitched on so not that big of a deal. Really comfortable for all day and great suede. The designer makes me excited for what he has for the future
I've been hoping to get into the chunkier trainer type of shoe for a while after wearing a lot of Chuck Taylors and AF1s, and these felt like the perfect balance between stylish and visibly more "dad vibes." I loved the look of them and fell in deeper love with them after putting them on-hands down the most comfortable pair of shoes I own! Will definitely be investing in more shoes like this in the future! I have wide feet so I was nervous about the size, but my standard size (10.5) was perfect!
I took these shoes on vacation as the only pair of shoes that I brought with me and they worked great. They are extremely comfortable - up there with Hoka Cliftons and other extremely comfortable shoes I have owned. They are stylish - especially given that chunky NB sneakers are currently on trend. This gray colorway is neutral and works well with my wardrobe (lots of blue shirts and earth tones). Downsides: the suede scuffs pretty easily and after a week of heavy use, I took out a small piece of the foam mudguard. They still look great but look like they have been worn.
I likes the look of these when i searched. The color of these is great. What really turned me off though was receiving them w/ white laces. In the picture it has grey laces. Not a deal breaker at that point but a little disappointed. When i tried them on they did not fit well . I don't have a thick wide foot, and i just think these are for that type of feet. And they are a heavier sneeker than what i'm used to.
These shoes are fire!! They look good with every outfit. I ordered the beige, tan, grey with the white N logo and the color is exactmy as pictured. And guys, these shoes are beyond comfortable. They are not tight in the arch area and they give great heel support and all around cushion to your feet. Im not a huge fan of sneakers as I find the typically hurt my feet after a few hours but man you could and have worn these all day and your feet feel just as great as they felt when you first put them on by the end of the day. And this is on first time wearing them, no need to break them in or anything. Do not waste any more time, this is a must buy!
Love the color and color combination. The oversized "N" logo definitely stands out from afar. The combination of different materials, i.e., smooth and furry suede and mesh is commendable. What threw me off a bit is the material used in the logo. It's not suede, not mesh, not any of the regular materials being used for logos, but it's made of terry like fabric. I thought, "Interesting." I'm just hoping that it will not be a dirt magnet when I walk around my work place. I used it a few times to walk around the neighborhood to break it in before I wear them to work for 8-12 hours. But really, they don't need to be broken in. They are soft and flexible enough for walks. They are a little bit hefty and heavy though compared to the other running and walking shoes I have. ...Β MoreLove the color and color combination.
