The 57/40 is the answer to a question that is simple, yet astronomical in scale. Despite its legacy of unassuming, almost effortless versatility, the original 574 was a unique design for its era, a hybrid road/trail design that didn’t lean on visible technical features. The 57/40 approaches the hybrid concept with a few extra years’ worth of design developments to explore, and creates a new perspective on an iconic design. An overall sleeker silhouette provided by a slimmer last combines with a range of exaggerated features. The unique midsole combines a flared take on the classic 574 construction with ‘90s tech inspired details, while the mudguard and eyerow feature the distinctive wavy embellishments of the ‘80s.

Some time ago I bought the same style on this page but the color is salt and since then I have been obsessed with 57/40. I love my new pair.

I bought this for a trip to Newcastle, wore them the whole time and walked for about 30 miles over the bank holiday weekend. They held up perfectly and are now my favourite pair of new balances I've ever purchased! :)

once i figured out the sizing, i was all-in on the 57/40s. i strongly suggest getting a half or full size larger than your normal sneaker size (normally a women's 5-5.5 but a 6 in these). on day one i took them for a 6+ mile walk through the city with no rubbing or fatigue at all. since the sole is chunkier than most, these are also decent in rainy conditions keeping your feet dry and out of puddles. only downside is that the tread gets VERY slick on wet metal (e.g., grates, manhole covers, textured curbs), so be warned.

New balance are so comfy - these are no different. Super comfy shoes, bit on the chunkier side compared to the 574’s which I like as they’re a bit different and definitely uplift an outfit.
They are awesome! Ran a tiny bit small but I'm also always in between a 10.5 and 11. Had the NB 580s as my old staples but these will be my new ones
Gorgeous trainers. So comfy. True to size. Love them
These are perfect - insanely comfy and run true to size as far as I can tell, more interesting than plain white trainers (the oatmeal/black looks sick). Bit of a pain to keep clean but you knew that anyway.
Great shoes, quality speaks for it, and really unique not everyone has them
My son is picky on his shoes and he wears 15-16 pending make. He tried them on and loves them. Thanks new balance.
Really good shoe the best shoe to flex. reall good walking flex
