Fit, form, and function are nearly ideal with the 574. This pair offers stability all around without compromising comfort. Two reasons for three vs. five stars are size and temperature. The 574 is by far the bulkiest shoe I have ever worn. Thankfully, the size does not correspond to weight and wearers will not encounter the dreaded leaded-shoe syndrome. The bulk however does contribute to the temperature and my feet were definitely warmer wearing the 574 versus any other running/casual shoe. If New Balance trimmed down the bulkiness and allowed the shoe to breath a little better, I could easily rate this as five stars.

I don't know what everyone is whining about. First, it's clear from the pictures there would be some shininess to the shoe because of the little dots, and second, the sea salt with bone is definitely a purpley-maroon, not a brown, exactly like the pictures. It's not glittery, it has an occasional glimmer to the shoe. It's not like you're wearing a 5 year old's Disney inspired shoe, there is some class to it. I got both the pink and the maroon/sea salt to compare but I'll probably keep the sea salt colour, which definitely has more shine and sparkle to it than the pink, which is very very subtle (and after reading all the complaints in the reviews I really thought it would be more obvious, which is what I wanted). The 574 is a very comfortable walking shoe, and this is my 3rd order of them; I practically live in them. And for anyone wondering, I have plantar fascitis from a flatter foot, and also slightly wider feet with bunionettes, and these fit my feet very comfortably. They run true to size.

I rate these 574's 5 stars for comfort right out of the box, and I really wanted to keep them, but they are advertised online as black and white. The box also says they are black and white. However they are not! They are dark blue which is a great color, but doesn't look good with any of my black pants that I planned to wear with them. I also ordered some medium blue 574's and am keeping them. I don't need 2 pair of blue 574's though so these are being returned. Fast delivery and easy return. I wear a women's size 9 in all shoes-except I always wear a 9.5 in NB shoes.

This is a fantastic every day wear kind of shoe, light jogging, walking or just sitting around and looking great on my feet. A beautiful shoe with good construction and nice materials, the suede needs constant cleaning but worth the effort. The padding both underfoot and around the ankle and tongue is ample enough to make it a reasonably comfortable shoe. I am a size 12 wide so I bought the 13 and was very pleased with the fit. My one complaint is that the left shoe creased on the toe box right away, these things happen and at the end of the day no one really notices these kind of things anyway... If not for the instantaneous crease this would be a 5 star footwear experience. I'll definitely pick up another pair at some point, a high quality shoe for a very ... I've paid a lot more for a lot less, new balance made me a fan with these shoes.
The 574 Rugged shoes are a little heavier and stiffer than the Classic. Come in some wild color combinations that likely will appeal more to the younger folks than to the geriatric crowd. The fit is similar to the Classic. I like the Rugged model and now have three pairs that I wear around town and for yard work. They are comfortable and well made. If you are looking for a shoe with a thicker sole and a little more heft than the Classic then these are worth a look.
Every new balance I own is in a size 12. The 550s and the 9060s. Those fit perfect. These 574 rugged though, I had to get in a 13. They run extremely small. Do yourself a favor a get a full size up. Or for a snug fit, half a size. I ordered them online so I had to go to the store and return the first pair I bought. Very annoying experience. But other than that, the shoes are very comfortable and it being on sale makes it an even better buy.
My husband and I purchased matching pairs of these a few weeks back for an event we were attending. When my husband tried his on and they were too small, I laughed at him… That was until I tried my own. I went up one half size and then another larger than what I had originally ordered, and they still didn’t fit. Now I have three different sizes of the shoe that I wasn’t able to wear to the event and that I have to return. I love the style, I love the look, and I love the multiple colors, but they just were so small that I couldn’t even find the appropriate size. My husband was also unable to get the correct size as the larger sizes he clearly required were out of stock. Bummer!
I got these shoes because I enjoy a bright mix of colors, I liked the "rugged" sole, and most of all I didn't mind the fact that they weren't outrageously priced. Since having them I have gotten non stop comments from people about how much they like the shoes. Almost to the point of alarming... my co-workers have commented, the elementary schoolers I work with love them, a clerk at KFC yelled across the restaurant to say she liked them, multiple people in the grocery store stopped me to ask me about them.... I am an introvert, so these encounters make me feel awkward. I checked my back to make sure there wasn't a "Ask me about my shoes" note stuck there... I began wondering if this was a "The Truman Show" kind of scenario, where everyone else knew about it but me. ... Absolutely LOVE the colors, but as many other reviewers have pointed out, they don't run true to size. I traditionally wear a size 8, but since NB tend to run small, I ordered an 8.5. Finally got them, tried them on, and they were too tight in the toe area. Sooo, I ordered a 9. The size 9 allows my toes more room, but there's also more room for my heels which, now, unfortunately, lack sufficient support (they slide when I walk). I'm so bummed that these shoes cannot fit me comfortably. I unfortunately will be returning both pairs. I've ordered 574's in four colors this year, all in size 8.5, and only one pair fit me properly. I like the 574 model and would love another color option, but it's such a hassle to find a pair that fits properly.
I read copious amounts of reviews for the lifestyle 574s and most people said TTS other than a few saying to size up. Normally when I listen to reviewers' suggestions and size up on smaller running shoes, they end up being way too big for me. So I opted for the womens size 6.5 since I tend to be TTS in those. But these were way too tight in the toe box for me personally. The shoe itself is gorgeous but I'm exchanging them for size 7, despite the actual length of the shoe fitting me correctly. You don't wanna cram your toes in a tight toe box people that's how you get feet issues.
