Now when I put these shoes on and start walking around in them, I'll get so much pain and sensation in my lower back and feet. I haven't experienced this with my other shoes and I've had some for over 5-10 years. I do find it a bit interesting, I may just need a new pair and or perhaps insoles but for the cost of the shoes and insoles only to be replaced after six months of casual wear, it's questionable. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed them during the six months of having them but my back and feet are telling me I need to retire them and that's what we're going to do

I bought these shoes last minute for my 2 week trip to England and Scotland, knowing we will be doing lots of waking, purely as a just in case/back up pair. Thank goodness I did bc they became the only shoe I've worn this trip (also brought with me "cute" or more fashionable trainers-trying to look cute, but nope-those shoes were not comfortable and my feet were dying after a day of walking in them). These new balance tho, So comfortable! Have worn them exclusively since 2 bad days in other shoes and love them and feet have never felt sore. Have done great with the amount of walking (over 20k steps per day) we've been doing over the different terrain-cobblestone and concrete and even some trails; lots of hills and stairs and these shoes are so insanely comfortable ... These have better support and are much better looking than the new 990v6. That shoe is not only ugly, but it does not have the depth or the solid support of the 990v5. They softened the sole of the v6, making it less supportive and causing it to flatten out more quickly. I was afraid New Balance would discontinue the v5 once the v6 was launched. Thankfully they have not. And I think they would be smart keep making the v5. A lot of v4 and v5 customers have been very disappointed with the v6. I don't think v6 sales will ever compete with v4 and v5 sales, and for good reason. With the 990v6 New Balance has really compromised on the quality, support, and good looking style that customers have been used to.

I know that as time goes on and newer versions of the vegan friendly come out, there will be no difference in the overall feel and quality, If you are purchasing these shoes like myself because of the fact that you are looking for a vegan friendly 990 that is free from all animal products, then you won't be disappointed. It feels good knowing that I am wearing my favorite shoe of all time, and that no animals were harmed in the process.Thank you New Balance for creating these.
These fit too large overall for me. I'm always a size 7 in NB running shoes, but these were too long. They also come up higher around the heel/ankle, making it rub in a weird way that was uncomfortable. The width seemed to be normal. I returned mine due to sizing. There was not a smaller size in stock, or I might have given that a shot.Just in general, I hate foam (even NB fresh foam) insoles. One of the reasons I picked this shoe was that it did NOT have the foam insole. Sizing and fit aside, the feel of the insole, instep, arch, and support was AMAZING. I'd love to find a similar shoe that fits a bit smaller on my foot!
I have Morton's Neuromas on both feet and require orthotics to correct it. Without good shoes and orthotics, I would be essentially lame. A good shoe for these orthotics means a firm base and an appropriate sized toe box. These offer the necessary combination of both. They have liners you can put the orthotics under and they give added comfort. I have tried so many shoes, including other New Balance. As "comfortable" as they might be, without the support the 990V5 gives, they simply don't work. Without these my lifestyle would be very sedentary. I purchase a new pair every six months as per my podiatrist's instructions.
I Purchased a variation of this shoe for many years now. I normally wear an 8 1/2 and I always get these in an 8 1/2 wide so I can insert my orthotics. It works perfectly and I find this to be an exceptionally supportive and comfortable shoe. It is a little on the heavy side so keep that in mind. My most recent pair have been just as good however the shoelaces started to wear after only a few months. New balance does not sell replacement shoelaces online and it has been difficult to get any information regarding a replacement. So I will look for shoelaces elsewhere. I took one star off because of the lace issue. That is not enough to make me discard these shoes. I will buy them again.

These were my first pair of NB shoes that I have ever purchased. When I received them- they looked nice.... when I tried putting the shoelaces through- I couldn't! Apparently there was fabric covering the shoelace holes. I was getting deployed in a few days and wanted to keep the shoes for work so I just ended up using a seam ripper. It took me about 45 minutes to cut all the holes through. I called the customer service desk to let them know about the problem and see if there was anything that they could do about it since they cost me over $200 and they were DEFECTIVE! They told me that there was nothing that they could do to help me. Poor quality control and very poor customer service!!! First and last time I will ever buy anything from NB.
