Since its original release in 2001, the 991 has been synonymous with superlative quality. As the first 99X model of the 21st century, the original 991 set the standard for modern running design. The MADE in UK 991v2 represents a new pinnacle, with an evolved take on this genuine icon. A streamlined take on a classic pigskin suede, mesh, and synthetic upper offers a sleeker overall profile, while retaining a familiar look.

I love the fit and feel! But on the very first wear yesterday, I was walking on bark chips at the playground with my child and a bark chip went pierced right through the center of the exposed fuelcell on the bottom of the shoe. Super odd, I would think it would have held up better, if I could do it over again I would go with the 991v1 in grey, I feel like the exposed fuel cell will degrade faster on this pair now so I’m better of going with 991v1 in the future.

Ever since I was in high school, I have exclusively worn New Balance Made in USA shoes. I’ve always preferred the Made in USA versions not only because I wanted to support my own people, but also because the quality, materials and craftsmanship has always been superior to those made abroad. However, after the pandemic, I started to notice a precipitous decline in the overall quality of the Made in USA versions. On several models, the quality was inferior to those made abroad. Basically, I’ve become very disappointed. After reading the reviews for the Made in England models, I decided to spend the extra money and purchase a pair. All I can say is if the quality remains consist and remains similar to the quality of this model, I will never purchase a Made in USA pair ... MoreEver since I was in high school, I have exclusively worn New Balance Made in USA shoes. The quality is outstanding. It’s similar to what Made in USA used to be.I hope New Balance sees these reviews and takes this feedback seriously and uses it to make significant improvements to its Made in USA line. Otherwise, it’s going to lose a lot of loyal fans.

These are amazing shoes, good fit, no rubbing, supportive and not too squishy, great craftsmanship, and just overall quality. The only issue I have is pricing; it’s a bit too high, the made in USA are still cheaper and probably similarly comfortable. Nonetheless good shoes.

I was a little hesitant to spend $270 on a pair of shoes without seeing them in person first. Glad I did though as the quality shines through. You can tell these were made with high end materials, AND by someone who took pride in their work. To me, the quality is hands down better than the US 990 line. I was able to pick up the 990 at a step discount. Considering the $100 plus price difference I would still pay the extra for the 991 and skip the 990. If you too value attention to detail and don’t mind paying extra to have a product made in a developed country these are for you.
I have the women’s version. Been wearing this model for years but the most recent version is NOT as comfortable—more stiff feeling and make my feet look longer/narrower which I don’t like.Bring the prior version back please. Also, my feet don’t sit as deep in this version which I don’t prefer. Makes my heel slip some.
The 991v2 is THE current ultra premium offering from New Balance. While the entire 99X line is a step above the rest from other brands, this second version of the 991 separates it’s self from the pack in a few ways.• First- The suede is very soft and pliable. I have over 20 different pairs of 99X and the suede on these 991v2 is the highest quality, nicest feeling out of any of the pairs that I own.• Second- The use Fuel Cell midsole technology is so well done in this model. You get the upgraded under foot comfort from the plush foam without straying away from the classic New Balance look.• Third- The tongue on this model is longer and more ergonomic than its predecessor. It doesn’t sound like a big deal but it makes the experience of wearing them much more ... MoreThe 991v2 is THE current ultra premium offering from New Balance. It doesn’t sound like a big deal but it makes the experience of wearing them much more pleasant. To summarize, New Balance did a perfect job of making necessary upgrades to a legendary shoe, while keeping the classic aesthetic and lineage of the original 991 intact. The price point is high enough to make even the biggest NB fans do a double take, but I assure you that from the moment you remove them from the box, you’ll see that they’re worth every last cent.
Just received the shoes, but the comfort is obvious from the start. I was unsure of the sizing and bought both my TTS and half size down. The TTS is slightly long but the half size down was much too tight. I was disappointed in variance of quality from one pair to the other, especially for the price point and new balance track record of quality. I am tempted to return the pair since they still have the tags on, but unsure if a better quality version will come back.
Easily the best 99X ever made. This coming from somebody who has worn New Balance since the late 80s and I remain a dedicated aficionado. The interior is plush and the sole is heaven on foot. In a way it’s a bit deflating to realize the USA Made NB are nowhere near the quality or design of the UK Models. As an American I have now switched over to the UK Line exclusively and this shoe is all I’ve been wearing since getting it. Best fitting 99X as well. This shoe has it all. The V6 is a complete joke compared to this in every way.
My favorite New Balance silhouette. Superb craftsmanship and construction. Bought these in my normal size 10 and fit is super comfortable and roomy. Also own the dazzling blue 991v2 in 9.5 and sizing works for my narrow feet. I think if you have a narrow foot you can size down or go true to size. Depends on how loose or snug you want your shoes. I like both. The size 10 feels and looks a little bulkier just so you know. Hope to see these in more colors in the future.
I took a big gamble on this shoe and it paid off. I have tried the 990v6 and unfortunately the shoe is stitched too low and puts a lot of pressure on the top of my feet (not a width issue, as I experienced the same thing trying on a wide pair in-store). Considering what I’d heard around the NB community in regards to 991’s being very tight/constricting, I was worried about these. Fast forward a few weeks of wearing and breaking in and they have quickly become my favorite pair of New balances that I own. No pressure on the top of my feet! Imagine that. The materials and construction are really out of this world. The higher price point is easily digestible considering the shoe you’re getting, you won’t find a more premium sneaker for the price on the market right now.I just hope New Balance restocks that new blue/silver color! Didn’t even get a chance to secure my size 13 before they sold out when I woke up that morning, I was devastated! Can’t recommend the 991v2 enough, easily my favorite silhouette now and likely will be for years to come.
