Comfortable walking shoe for normal activities, Made in USA a bonus. These accommodate my wide feet with high arches and aren't flashy.
Shoes looks great, especially that long-haired suede. Materials are very nice. BUT very uncomfortable! For some reason the seam on the bottom of the tongue is rubbing the foot. I cannot wear them more than a few minutes! Don't know is it normal of a manufacturer defect.
Good materials and construction. I like the slightly off-white color of the mesh and desaturated blue of the "N" - they lend some subtlety to what could have been an overly-contrasty shoe. The hairy suede is a good textural match to the mesh.I own about ten pairs of 996s and based on a previous review, I sized down 1/2 from a 9.5 to a 9. That worked out well for me (thanks, previous reviewer!), but I would say that the sizing of these is different, and slightly larger, than typical 996 models.
I own a couple of the New Balance 990 Made in America shoes.All are well constructed and very comfortable and worth the price. The 996 is no exception. Plan to use my latest purchase as my everyday shoes.

Was really excited to get these shoes as I've been trying to get them for a while. Unfortunately the sizing is way wrong. I'm a size 13 with almost every shoe brand out there to include New Balance. I read the reviews on this site as well as other sites and the general concensus was that these shoes fit "normal" sizing. Unfortunately these are more like size 14 maybe 14.5.. If it weren't for me spending over $100 for them it would be laughable, but they're not returnable. Great job New Balance!
I bought these to replace my previous 996s that I purchased 5 years ago. It was comfortable until the day I traded them in for these. I wore them everywhere - multiple Disney trips, overseas, and everywhere that required a TON of walking.I like the narrower footbed on the 996s and the lower profile. It took me forever to find a replacement and I am so glad I came across this site. I will forever be a fan of New Balance, and the OG 990s and these 996s.
Its looks good from the side view only, but the overhead view looks real bad to me. The front grey areas protrude to much to the sides. Needs to be narrower for my taste. I may have received a bad pair, but I am not sure. I am willing to exchange them if they are narrower and update my review. I have purchased many pairs from this site and none have looked this way.
The shoes are extremely well made and had that premium leather smell! This model is very tru to size and were exactly what I normally wear. Loved the suede and can wait to rock them in my Italy/Paris trip!
