I've put hundreds of miles on versions 10 and 11 of the 1080, and I can say that version 12 is the better of the three by a considerable margin. Most of it has to do with getting rid of the god-awful "UltraHeel" but there are other subtle improvements that take the 12 to the next level.First, the Fresh Foam tuning. This is still your long haul, easy miles daily cruiser, but the compound in the 12 is slightly (really, just slightly) firmer, slightly bouncier than previous versions. I've found myself enjoying the ride far more than I expected. The Fresh Foam here is dense, substantial, and it feels durable.Second, there as been a slight improvement on the lockdown across the midfoot, which I was not expecting but it feels welcome. In versions 10 and 11, I remember often feeling like the the top and sides of my foot were irritated by the rigid structure that surrounded the midfoot cage--not quite Ultraboost midfoot cage territory, but still enough to notice. Now, I feel very well locked down without any sort of obvious bunching, pinching, or other unpleasantness. I think some of this has to do with a better heel lockdown; I'm simply not cranking the laces like I felt I had to before. But the rest of the upper has improved, too, which is commendable. Finally, the shoe just *looks* better. I love the design of this version, and it makes me want to reach for it more. The weird veiny vibe of 10 and 11 is gone, and I couldn't be happier about that.Overall, what a shoe, and what an improvement! I'm so excited to spend the summer cruising in the 1080v12.

I'm not really a runner but I walk up some very very steep hills every day, about 45 minutes of fast paced walking. I started having some aches and pains in my knees going down steep hills so started searching highly cushioned sneakers. To cut a long story short I have some rather expensive Hokas, The Saucony Triumph 19, tried on Brooks Glycerins, didn't really like the style or fit. Thought I'd try New Balance again as in my younger days NB was my go to sneaker brand. I kept hearing these 1080v 12s run large or at least a 1/2 size too big. I've worn a 10.5 medium width forever, but just in case, I ordered these in both 10 and 10.5. and thought I'd return whichever one didn't fit as well, just walking on carpet so they'd still be like new to return. To my surprise the 10's felt VERY tight and the 10.5s my normal size, felt like a super soft glove, I was blown away with how instantly comfortable they are. I'd have to say these are probably the most comfortable sneakers I have ever had. Though I don't run, I still feel plenty of support and I love the crazy bright Orange color I opted for. Like most sneakers these days, I feel they should all be $20-$30 less on an overall, that said, I LOVE these 1080v 12s...Best sneakers I've ever owned .

This is my second pair of New Balance 1080v12 from Northern Runner. I have only done 100km in my previous pair but I love them so much that I decided to get another pair to keep in reserve. I do by far the most of my running on rural trails in my Brooks Cascadia 16, in which I have covered 1000km (with no sign of any wear). I run in the 1080v12 on a fully tarmac trail which is a shared pedestrian and cycle track. I also use them to walk into town and can road run that when I get bored with walking. The 1080v12 are incredibly comfortable. They feel very similar to my Cascadia 16 in cushioning, fit and response. They feel exactly the same to me and both give my 2E feet plenty of room in the toe box.Another thing I love about the 1080v12 is that they are comfortable and practical for cycling (with rubber faced pedals). They give me the confidence that if my bike were to fail on my regular 26km circuit, I would never be further than 13km from home and could run that. The upper is beautifully flexible and is perfect in my running socks or laced looser with a thicker pair on top for cycling when the temperature is close to freezing. For actual running on tarmac and concrete, the 1080v12 are perfectly cushioned and feel responsive to me. I am a mid foot striker and I find that the 8mm drop does not get in the way. It is better than my Glycerins in that aspect but still naturally allows a heel contact when running downhill. As for response, you may laugh if you want but “faster” for me means doing 5k in just under 30 minutes plus 1.5k warmup and cooldown either side, so an 8k run. I can do it in the 1080v12 (sometimes) but they are also comfortable on a more relaxed 5k or easing along a 10k in 80 minutes. The grip is secure wet and dry and even on fallen leaves on the tarmac. If you are mulling over whether or not to buy the 1080v12, I recommend going for it before they become available only in tiny or enormous sizes.

I've been wearing NB running shoes -- including several previous versions of the 1080s, for 10 years. This version is noticeably different from and inferior to past versions. First, the sizing - after a decade ordering the same size online (10.5), I learned that this model suddenly runs large. I went into the NB store to try it on, and the 10.5 was noticeably too big, and the 10 felt slightly snug compared the the V9 and v11. On runs, they lacked the feeling of softness and light cushioning, and instead felt more rigid and stiff. Even after a few runs, my legs and feet felt noticeably worse. I've had to go back to a new pair of v11s (a better shoe at almost half the price at this point) in anticipation of an upcoming marathon. NB: Please go back to what's worked in ... I'm a half marathon runner, I do two - three races per year. For years I've been all about the 1080s, I have a flat foot and I'm 6ft tall, around 180lbs so some cushion is good. With each new version of the 1080 I'm curious to see what they'll do. I looooved the 11s, perfect shoe. The biggest issue I've had with the 12s would be the sizing. In the 11s I wore an 11.5, fit perfectly. These felt like boats. I sized down to an 11, still swimming. Like I couldn't sprint and had to curl my toes when going up a hill because of the slip. The 10.5s don't slip, but my toes feel cramped in the ceiling. The box width is good, overall it's fine on my foot, but I'm hoping the 13s will get back to the 11s a bit.Otherwise the shoes are great- same great cushion, super light, for ... I have to say at first I was skeptical I read all of the reviews and I had never ever invested in an expensive shoe. When I put my foot in the shoe and I stepped down oh my God it felt so comfortable it's the most comfortable shoe that I have ever purchased in my life I feel so good in them that I don't want to even take them off. If you are looking for a very comfortable shoe lightweight that has plenty of space in the front I highly recommend this shoe. I have flat feet and I thought they were big in the front because I just feel like I have space but when I checked and I felt My foot it was just perfect. I am never buying a $30 tennis shoe in my life again. You truly get what you pay for and I am in love with the comfort feeling of this shoe. it is truly the best ... I did not buy the yellow color shoes the ones I bought were the black wide size 8 but I can imagine they all feel the same.
I got the Fresh Foam X 1080v12 as a daily trainer but, to me, it's more of an easy or recovery day kind of shoe. I normally wear 8 and sometimes 8.5 so I ordered 8 EE and it was way too big when I tried it on. So I returned it and ordered 7.5 EE and it's still on the roomy side. NB's idea of "wide" seems to differ from other brands' shoes. Normally, the standard size works fine for me as my width is probably "medium", not "narrow" or "wide". Anyway, I've already put in 20 miles on 1080v12 so I'm keeping it but I've decided that I will put it away for now and use it in the winter with thicker socks. The 1080v12 has good cushioning but isn't quite as soft as I expected, which isn't good or bad, just not what I thought I was getting. It is firmer than I thought it'd be and has a decent energy return and pop. It's fairly comfortable but is a lot of shoe and heavier than I'd like for a daily trainer or for tempo running. It doesn't make me want to go fast. At the same time, it's not as soft-cushioned as other shoes that I'd consider for easy/recovery running. It sits somewhere in between and I'm not sure what to make of that.Overall, I enjoyed the several 6~7 mile runs I've had with the 1080v12 but it's a little too roomy with my summer socks and feels a bit clunky for faster running. I'm in SoCal and the ongoing 100+ degree heatwave has made me adjust my running schedule and the types of run I make and this shoe just does not fit in right now. Although this may seem like a less-than-positive review, I think it's a very good pair of running shoes. 20 miles isn't enough to make a final judgment and I think I will enjoy the 1080v12 in cooler weather and grow to like it more as time goes by and I rack up more miles.
The shoes shows so much promise. With a very plush setup but the sizing is concerning so I can't say much about quality control which is a pitty. I ordered online and went with every recommendation and review I saw about it running large and best to go half size down at least. I'm usually US 10 but ordered 9.5 based on all of those other internet reviews including on the official New Balance website and now I'm taking them back after trying on to request to exchange for a US 10. Or maybe even 10.5 because the sole seems too short, stubby and make me worried I'll twist an ankle on the toe off phase. The toe room lengthwise is now easily less than a finger width for me which means I'd be poking holes in them later on. I'm comparing them to the 520v7 us 10 which Im ... heel is really weird. it protrudes backwards so you do not get a close fit in heel...like a backwards letter C. The back looks like ELF shoes. There is a seam in the heel which is really annoying. The tongue of the shoe is almost non-existing and feels really cheap. The shoe strings are also dumbed down in quality. The only positive is that the colors are nice and the soles are nice and bouncy. It is not the same quality as the early versions, which I purchased and loved. Unfortunately I have to return. NEW Balance: PLEASE go back and manufacture the high quality you produced in the recent past!!!! You will lose your loyal customers if you manufacture shoes that are cheaply produced.
I use them for walking, and some light running. At first i thought the shoes were a huge improvement over the 1080v10 and 1080v11. The heel was supportive and I was certain it would last longer than the v10 and v11. It felt like i was walking on water. 6 months later: the rubber sole has worn through significantly and the heel has completely worn through with cracking of the plastic to boot. I still have the v10 and v11 and they are in better shape. This should not have happened to the v12. It turns out, that there's a 6 month warranty policy that I was not aware of. Lucky for NB, I am 4 days past the 6 month mark and New Balance will not offer an exchange.
