I'm on my 14th pair of 860s. I put around 400 miles on them, commonly 80+ mpw, 3500+ mpy. While the V13 sole is noticeably better, this new rubber tag integrated into the side of the upper tongue is really painful on the top of my foot. I don't overly tighten my laces, but understand it could be due to the shape of my foot. I have to lace behind the tongue on the right side to force the hard tag away from my foot. For V14's, I hope that feature goes away. NB has been overall a great fit, but a year of dealing with this is going to be rough if I continue with the V13.

Dedicated, long time New Balance customer, but found most recent purchases disappointing with other recent 860 style Fresh Foam purchases having issues from heel spines which break apart inside the fabric, to layered sole separation. All after only a few short days or weeks of wear - and with my sneaker use solely for walking. However, FINALLY I am MOST SATISFIED with this recent purchase which is SOLID IN CONSTRUCTION, and a COMFORTABLE DREAM TO WEAR!!! They leave my feet feeling comfortably wrapped, and with a solid shock absorbing sole that mitigates my painful feet condition.New Balance made things right on my earlier disappointing purchase and kept me a loyal customer!!!

I've traditionally bought the 860's due to overpronation and the midsole has been pretty consistent for several generations (v9 to v12 at least). With the update in V13 a major change to lighter/less dense foam and less duel density under inside heel results in inadequate support resulting ankle and knee pain. Even wearing these as walking shoes (forget my long runs) results in sore knees. I think if the duel density was extend further under the heel they might still be lighter/softer than previous generation while still preventing overpronation.Cons - New foam is less supportive, less duel density under the heal, shoestrings are lower qualityPros - Lighter weight, softer cushion, attractive
I've used 860s exclusively for decades for their stability - to correct for pronation. The V13's different tread design with less area coverage by the denser tread material means that if my initial heel strike is lateral to the center line of the shoe the lateral side of the shoe then overly compresses leading to excess supination during the heel strike. For me this is a negative. This has never been an issue with previous versions, even the V12 which also used a Fresh Foam midsole, so I'm guessing the change in the area coverage of the denser tread may be the source of this issue. The fit of the shoe is as before and I like the simpler design of the uppers - no wavy stitching lines as on the V12. I hope NB would go back to full dense tread coverage of the sole so ... MoreI've used 860s exclusively for decades for their stability - to correct for pronation. I've been running in 860s for a while. At 200 lbs and vulnerable to calf and achilles injuries, I need a firmer stability shoe . The fresh foam on the V13 has made the midsole too soft and the medial post puts my feet in an over supinated position when I run. Luckily I was able to still purchase the 860V12 which is a perfect blend of cushioning and stability with a medial post that matches well with the midsole. With the Vongo already being a soft, plush, high stack running shoe, NB no longer has a traditional firm stability shoe in it's line-up. Not sure what options are left for those of us that really do need a firmer supportive shoe after the V12s sell out.On the positive side, the 860 V13 still has a great fit with a roomy toe box. If you like the fit of the V12 you wont be disappointed with that aspect of the shoe. Although if you liked the stability features of the 860 of old, you may be disappointed with this version.
I have to be honest, I'm very disappointed. As a huge fan of New Balance shoes, I wear them for work, running and casual.I bought the X 860 v13 for work, Black on black with a nice cushy sole and a good looking shoe in my opinion. However, after wearing them for only one shift, the toe cap failed with one large permanent crease. Due to its extremely thin construction, the cap overly flexes - while making popping noises with every toe bend, and ultimately creases into its current form. It's just not built robust enough. Now the crease rubs on the top of my toe and I'm just waiting for the next blister to appear. Had stronger toe cap been used, as seen in the Fresh Foam X 1080v12, this would have been a non-issue.This is always the challenge when shopping online, ... MoreI have to be honest, I'm very disappointed. I have the V12 and now the V13 these are the best shoes for my wide feet and bad knees. I can wear these at the gym for training and treadmill and easily transition to for walks in the neighborhood. My V12 had been a great shoe and these V13 are no different. They are super comfortable and the quality on these is fantastic. I with NB would make there shoes in a lifestyle shoe as i feel like the style on these are a bit too athletic for my taste but they are a great shoe overall. These have been true to size for me I'm a 10 wide and the fit is perfect. I got the black with the black sole and they better in person than online and I'm happy with the choice considering the other color ways they had.
After purchasing 30 pair of past revisions of 860s, this revision falls short due to the sole being too soft. V11 and V12 both had good sole cushion without being too soft and collapsing while running or walking. The V12 was a great shoe for me: supportive, long-lasting and properly balanced foam sole for cushion. V13 is too soft with less road feel and stability. I will have to wait for V14 to re-try and hope they get back on track. The shoe still fits the same, meaning great and obviously is high-quality as usual.
I am 6'4" about 185lbs and run 20-30 miles per week. I run both long runs (13+ miles) and speed work in these shoes as well easy runs. I have a history of plantar fasciitis and have low arches / flat feet. I purchased the 860 v12 and they didn't last very long as the outside heel area broke down and lost its bounce / cushioning. The v13 are a much better shoe for me as they seem light and well cushioned but still returning some energy. I really love these shoes, plenty of support and plenty of cushioning.
