I purchased these when they first came out, I’ve run about 80% of my mileage in these for the past three months. I’ve owned multiple pairs of the V3 as well. The initial first runs felt a little wobbly and had me worried. After the initial break-in period the shoes formed to my foot and began to provide great stability benefits. The flares of midsole on the medial forefoot prevent overpronation from fatigue. You can easily switch between forefoot, mid foot and some heel strike. The outsole and exposed midsole have held up surprisingly well. The upper is very breathable and plenty of volume. The forefoot is very generous for a traditional style shoe. I am a heavier runner at 195 lbs and 6’1”, the midsole does bottom out from time to time, but not a real concern as ... MoreI purchased these when they first came out, I’ve run about 80% of my mileage in these for the past three months. These fit true to NB size, I wore a size 12 in V3 and V4 has stayed true. Definitely going to buy the cyber jade color way on July 1st.

These shoes are SO COOL. I run a lot and I feel it’s really hard to find stylish running shoes, a lot of them look like the brand has used the same colors since 1992. These are very sick, and that is the only good thing I could say about them.My regular shoe size is 6.5 and running shoe size is 7. My usual NB shoe is 1080 but every year it’s so dissimilar from the year before, this year it’s a mushy mess so I thought I’d try something else.I live in a small town and we only have a sporting goods store here so I tried every NB running shoe on and ordered 6.5. My toes were curling under, it was too small in length. Ordered 7. Guys, it is like I have a freaking extra inch of room side to side AND in length. I cannot understand it. It is to the point that i have checked the box several times to make sure I didn’t get a men’s shoe, or the wrong size. I would roll my ankle if I ran in these because the upper is barely touching my foot anywhere besides the heel, even after cinching the laces. The 6.5 was too small and the 7 is HUGE. HOW CAN THAT BE?In the past 3-4 years NB is all over the place with sizing and widths and to me it is just a sign of depreciating quality. For $140, fit should be a no-brainer, I didn’t even make it past that to evaluate the shoe.

The Rebel V4 is a great sneaker. Immediately, putting it on the first thing I noticed was that the ground feel from the v3 is pretty much gone. I’m 5’3” about 150lbs and got great ground feel with the v3. This isn’t a bad thing but, I feel it’s worth mentioning. I always go true to size in New Balance sneakers, US Men’s size 9.5 however, I had to get a 10 because my size was not available. The shoe still feels great but it feels very roomy, and not just in the toe box, it feels roomy throughout.I’ve put about 30 miles in these shoes and I’m already looking to buy a second pair. The midsole is fantastic. It’s (for me) the perfect balance of not too springy and not too soft. It has a nice snappy pop but also lets your foot sink in, ever so slightly. The upper feels ... MoreThe Rebel V4 is a great sneaker. I’m taking it for long runs, tempo work and easy runs; this shoe handles it all nicely and is super fun to run in.Hope this helps!

For context, I use these shoes for interval and threshold run workouts, including the warm-up and cooldown portion of the run. The shoe feels good a varied paces, from easy running to faster, harder efforts. It’s not the bounciest or most propulsive shoe, but it’s light weight, wide platform, and geometry lend to a very consistent ride with the ability to turn over quickly and dig. I’ve had no issue with the performance of the shoe during any run/workout I’ve thrown at it.My only issue lies with the upper. I wish the security/lockdown was just a little more robust. Part of this is effected by the tongue construction as well, as it has no padding towards the top and is cut too short - to the point where it migrates under the laces during my runs. Part of this is effected by the tongue construction as well, as it has no padding towards the top and is cut too short - to the point where it migrates under the laces during my runs. None of this has contributed to any discomfort, but it inhibits the ability to crank the laces down.Overall, this shoe is a simple, yet high performing trainer that I absolutely recommend in a world of high tech rides. It very much so allows you to run unabridged and you get out of it what you put in. For future iterations, I’d just personally prefer slightly more padding around the top of the heel collar, a taller tongue with strategic padding, and more robust midfoot reinforcements to allow for an optimal lockdown.Shoe fits true to size as well.
I ordered the FuelCell Rebel V4's because I was looking for a shoe that is lightweight and can accommodate my wide foot. At a weight of 7.5 ounces in a Men's size 9.5, that is crazy light for a daily trainer. My last New Balance running shoe was the RC Elite V2's and these Rebel V4's are even lighter. The upper is breathable and I didn't have any issues with rubbing anywhere on my foot. The midsole has the perfect balance of firmness and softness. It doesn't feel overly squishy which is great for faster strides but still soft to absorb shock from the pavement. The outsole traction is also great and I have no issues even when running on wet roads. One improvement needs to be addressed, however, and it's the tongue. The tongue needs to be a bit longer and needs to have some padding for a bit more comfort on top of the foot. Obviously, some compromises needs to be done to the upper to make this shoe as light as it is but a structured tongue would be great.Pros✅ Comfortable & Lightweight✅ Breathable Upper✅ Wide Foot Base Even At "Standard" Width✅ Balanced MidsoleCons⛔️ Short Tongue With No Structure
This is my second pair of legit running shoes that i got to train with daily running. My other pair is Hoka Mach 5. I was aiming to have those for races and these as daily running from slow recovery long runs to tempo runs. I typically buy wide sneakers when i can but never used wide running shoes. I would say this is the reason i am having some aches every time i run with these. The Mach 5 took me about 2-3 runs to get used to them and the inner knee pain left. But these for some reason have my calves and feet much more exhausted from short runs. I haven’t been able to test them out for 6+ miles but will soon. I think it’s due to it being wide and working more of my feet than i am used to. If you buy wide, I’d recommend running short distances first to build up your strength because i am not feeling the best cushioning from them compared to if it was regular. If i could, i would get the regular instead but this might be building up my leg strength slowly. Who knows! Still would recommend. Beautiful looking sneakers, great quality and the lightest ones i have ever felt! Feels as heavy as thick socks honestly.
Having been a huge fan and user of the Rebel v3, I wasn't sure what to think of such a radical update that has almost no resemblance to the pervious versions. Even after the first few runs, I wasn't sure if I liked it as much as the v3. Then, I took it out on a 15-mile run and it finally clicked. Although this new FuelCell midsole with the 20% PEBA blend is noticeably firmer than the midsole on the v3, it still has a very good bounce with better responsiveness when picking up the pace. It works really well for various paces - from easy/recovery to tempo/threshold workout as well as moderate-pace long runs. The midsole is protective and the outsole has excellent traction. The v3 and v4 are my top two non-plated daily trainers and complement each other nicely.
Most of the reviews online are saying these are comfortable and pop so I gave it a shot since my daily trainer HOKA Mach 5 is about worn out. When I received the shoes, I thought it looks very thick foam so must be comfy unfortunately it is not for me…I used them on treadmill the first time and road for 8miles - 16miles. I used for about 40-50 miles in total and still dont like them… I feel heavy every time and sometimes even feel pain under my toes. I am a mid-fore foot striker most of the time until I feel tired at the very last couple miles of marathon, then I may use the heel a bit…maybe these shoes are for heel foot striker better. The foam maybe too soft so I feel like sinking to the ground and hurt my toes. I am not heavy neither by the way 143-148lbs. The only good thing for me is it is very roomy as you can tell by its width. Good for me flat feet person. Unfortunately I need to return these and may just look for some old stock of hoka mach5. At least Mach 5 is for me comfy like running on the cloud and even after hundreds of miles. Downside is it wears fast…
Great fit (wide forefoot), lightweight upper feels weightless. Eva blend midsole gives good balance of protection, stability and ground feel. Slight rocker profile and flexible forefoot helps train push off toe muscles. Heal lockdown is solid and comfortable without a bulky, plush lining. Minimal tongue is comfortable enough but I wish there was a little more material height in the center to pull it up with when slipping on. Outsole rubber coverage may look insufficient but I’ve found it sufficient to protect the midsole foam as well as very grippy in dry and white pavement. Together with the drop and rocker profile it prefers a mid or forefoot strike instead of heel. The light weight and profile make the shoe want to keep moving forward at a mid speed pace. For sprints and more powerful runners the forefoot stack may be too thick but I found it a good balance between plush and ground feel for an amateur. The midsole foam feels a bit stiffer for about 10-20miles (200lb) but once it creases it’s broken in and more plush and a bit bouncier than new. All the colorways look great and modern. I went with navy so it can double as a sneaker when traveling and after the foam gives out. I expect 300-500miles
I use the Rebel V4 for track intervals, tempo and threshold runs, i.e., faster paces. It's lightweight and has a great combination of cushioning (compliance) and energy return (resilience), without a plate. It is also slightly wider than many shoes, which works great for my slightly wide feet and the extra width adds a bit of stability that is often needed in a shoe with this much cushioning - works very well. The Rebel V4 also has a little extra forefoot volume - again, this works great for my feet. Very good lacing system and lockdown. I'm more of a mid-to-forefoot striker, especially at faster paces, and these shoes do not bottom out. They have less road feel than NB Beacon or Topo Cyclone 2 - easier on older feet. And, the White/Lime colorway seriously rocks! Doubles as a great street shoe.
