The NB Numeric 440 is a low-profile skate shoe with lineage tracing back to New Balance’s heritage of classic, 70’s style running shoes. With its C-CAP heel wedge helping to absorb impact and keep it lightweight, the 440 has the board feel of a vulcanized shoe with the impact protection of a cupsole. The upper is constructed with dual layers of suede in the high-wear zones along with breathable mesh side panels and reflective heel perforations, making the 440 not only comfortable, but extremely functional.

I'm not sure if mine were defective or if they were supposed to be made that way but I could not stand on them for even a second without being in a lot of pain. It's the arch support. It's so extremely high it's like having a rock in the shoes. Quite literally the most uncomfortable shoe I've ever worn. I pretty much only wear NB's so I'm kinda shocked frankly. I guess it's back to the 990's.

These shoes are at a great price point, especially for how good they look. My complaints would be that the arch support seems a little too close to the heal, and i did notice someone else mentioned that, after i purchased of course. There is also a couple spots where the threading seemed a little loose. Lastly, not a complaint, just something i didnt realize in the photos, but the toe is a lot more squared off than most shoes i own. Again, not a problem, just didnt notice.

Construction and materials are solid with no apparent flaws. Tongue doesn't catch hem. Narrower toe box than expected. Wider feet should size up or have a backup pair to switch into until break in.

Let's start by saying that when it come to looks these are one of my favorite shoes of all time, the black and white with the brown soles just look really good to me; They also fit as expected. Now let's talk about the one thing that is not as nice about them, and it's the only reason I took a star away, and that is they do not come with very good insoles; they are very thin, and don't provided much in terms of cushioning. I know that is an easy fix, and subjective to the person wearing them, but I just wish they would've come with better insoles. Other than that I highly recommend these shoes and I will be getting another pair in a different color.
I am a womens 8 1/2 so i ordered a mens 7. Great shoe. Design is cute. My foot is a little wide, in the beginning it was a tight fit for my pinky toes however after braking them in they feel great! Will definitely be buying more new balance shoes.
Needed high ankle support for kicking around the house after surgery. Cannot wear slippers or anything unsupported. Put my personal arch supports in and the doctor is happy! Light weight enough to be comfortable. Who would have thought a skateboard shoe would serve this purpose so well!
These are generally really great sneaks. I was looking for something along the lines of Adidas Samba styling, and these nailed it (without the leather, which I didn't need). They're comfortable and fit well and snugly, and they look great and are easy to pair with lots of different outfits for various occasions. I don't actually skateboard so I can't speak to how they hold up under that type of usage. I'd say these lean more towards 4 1/2 stars. My only issue is after the second day of use, the glue attaching the soles to the uppers failed in one spot, leaving a 3/4 inch gap. So far it hasn't grown any bigger, but I'm wary of early wear.
These NB440s have turned in to my favorite shoes of all time. The leather breaks into the shape of your foot quickly and these shoes really are durable for quite a long time. They are such a good all-around shoe that can be dressed up or down depending on what they're worn for and I have had a lot of people ask me where I got them. Only good things to say about these shoes and I hope NB never discontinues the 440 style.
I have worn out 3 pairs of 990's. Loved each pair. Still have one pair left. They were/are tan, brown, gold and grey. As far as I can tell, you only make the grey ones now. So, I'm done with NB until you make something I want. Great shoe.
I really loved these right out of the box, but for some reason the left shoe toe box rubs against my pinky toe. I thought at first it was just because they needed to be broken in, but i've been wearing them for a few weeks and the annoying rubbing sensation is still there. They look great but I'll only wear them if I know I'm not doing a lot of walking in them them. A little dissapointed
