I developed a moderate case of tibial tendonitus, left foot. I'm middle aged, at least and this has brought about a fallen arch heading towards flat footed. My first visit with my podiatrist, he promptly told me to get something with a medial post to start with. As a suggestion, he showed me what he wears, NB 860's.Took this advice for a starting point, ordered a pair and found this "medial post" shoe/sneaker with the very support I needed. With this great support, my limping has reduced significantly and my gait is more normal. Quite surprised at the immediate difference. Hoping over time to repair the tibial tendonitus.I've been a NB guy for years and just recently realized I simply had to change the necessary support style. 860's are it for me!

I have been a loyal fan of New Balance for decades and am very pleased with the 860s. I wear a wide shoe and the fit is excellent. I also like the structure of the shoe that gives excellent support. It is the diametric opposite of my experience with a pair of 880s. I was surprised at the poor stability of the shoe which exacerbated a long-time foot injury. Salespeople at New Balance stores should be better trained. Proper advice could have avoided the problem, not to mention a waste of around $150. If you sell a technical shoe, then you need well-trained salespeople to sell the right shoe to a customer.

Lightweight, breathable, and flexible running shoe. Foam sole is comfortable, but is firm enough for running and provides great support. The wide width fits me like a glove. The color options are cool. I opted for the orange. I usually avoid tread patterns with large voids in the heel as rocks tend to get stuck in there, but this hasn't happened yet with these. Highly recommend!

Purchased for my hubby who has very wide feet. Choices for him are always slim pickings but NB always comes through. Price was great and instead of boring black/gray or white choices he was able to get Navy with some orange highlights. He likes the way the heel fits as it does not rub up and down. He was surprised at how light the shoe was when on foot. Traditionally he is hard on shoes so hoping these will last longer than others. The shoes felt good on his feet with the right amount of support for him. He has normal arches but weighs over 200lbs and only stands 5'9".
I truly love this shoe. Being someone who is flat footed and pronates this shoe truly helps me, it accomidates my orthotic well to. I do NOT love this shoe as much as I loved the v11.... sadly. Why change a good thing? I love the new heel design and padding but here are some aspects I am not happy about.1.) the tongue is not secured like it was on the old shoe, therefore the tongue moves around and its extremely annoying:(2.) the new lighter material just does not seem as sturdy as the v11 material around the toe box.3.) the overall look of this version is not as sporty as the v11 it seems more old fashion looking, the reason I love the v11 so much was because of the sporty look and way it just fit on the foot.It has made me have a love hate relationship with ... I really love this shoe but why do you have to make changes to something that so many of us love? I sure hope you guys take these reviews seriously and make v13 a better fit. I love NB I do not want to switch shoe companies!!!!
This my third 870 going back to V6. I like the evolution. The heal cup is stiffer and the structure keeps my heal down more firmly. The shoe is very light. The toe box is generous and the D width is great for my E width foot. The carved out portion of the outside of the heal makes for a great placement running or walking and the turned up toe releases perfectly. Very comfortable overall. The only negative I can find is that the laces are too short. With my big hands there is not much to grab onto to tie them up
The 860 peaked with the fantastic V10. Since then, the price has gone way up (don't care) and the quality has gone down (care a LOT). Perhaps it's an effort to make the shoe lighter. The top of the toebox is now just the thin nylon they use on their lowest tier shoes, the laces are thinner and the worst part, the width seems to be a little tighter than it used to be. Also, the back of the shoe used to curve inward to keep my heel in place. Now, curves OUT and I feel like the shoe is going to come off of my foot. Sadly, I took them out of the box and wore them out a couple of times hoping I'd get used to them so I can't return them.I understand that they need to "freshen" the shoes but I wish they'd limit it to new bizarre color combinations based on Seattle ... I did by a few pairs of V10s when they were being phased out but now those are in need of replacement. NB used to be a place where the wide-footed could come for well-made shoes. As they've cut back on the number of styles offered in X-wide widths and now making even the ones they do offer narrower, the market they created is wide open for someone else. I've worn NB exclusively for 20 years. I'm open to suggestions on where to go next.
I have many pairs of NB and this one is slightly different in that it seems that the instep is so high it is tilting my foot at an angle toward the outside of my foot. I know that everyone has a different foot and that all wearers will not experience the same thing but these are different from the other four pairs I currently have. I am going to change the inner sole and see if that helps. I would add that I do think these are an excellent value. I have a pair of Saucony and Brooks that were in the same $130-ish price range and I feel like these are better made then either of those. I do wish NB would upgrade their laces though. The laces are cheesy. Come on NB give us better laces.
I have been wearing 860s for years for walking on artificial knees. I need a big toe box. These v.12 shoes in my "regular" size for v.10 and v.11 felt great the first days out walking on level ground. Then I did an uphill hike. Coming down, I felt my right big toe hit the rigid front of the shoe toebox. On a long hike it would be purple toenail time. I decided to use these just for local ,even walks and ordered a half size longer.Comparing the 3 shoes, I confirmed the big toe is right at the rigid inner side of the v.12 usual size toe box. On my same size old v.11, it's a good fingerwidth away. With the half size larger v.12, my big toe is in about the same place as in the smaller v.11.I also note they changed the soft toe box top of the v.11 to make a harder ... My last two pair of sneakers for the last couple of years have been New Balance 940's, both size 10.5 Wide (2E). New Balance does not carry the 940 line anymore, so I had to find a different model in my size (they have a 990 model but it is really ugly). I had ordered a pair of 1080 v11's in the same size and had to return them because they were too tight. The 860 v12's (same size) are even tighter. I had to loosen the shoestrings so much to get my foot in, that there were not enough shoestrings to even tie the sneakers. I will be returning these as well. I wish there was more consistency with the sizing of these shoes as it is a pain to have to order and return on a trial by error basis. The closest New Balance store from me was an hour away but was recently closed ... MoreMy last two pair of sneakers for the last couple of years have been New Balance 940's, both size 10.5 Wide (2E).
