When it comes to running, going the extra mile isn't just a figure of speech. Whether it's morning exercise, intense training, or head-clearing relaxation, a daily regimen of training miles, combined with ordinary movement throughout the day, demands a lot from a running shoe. With running comfortably for longer in mind, the 880 was built to provide consistent performance for the neutral runner. The Fresh Foam X 880v12 is modernization that can be seen and felt. A soft foam compound, and dual-layer midsole setup is featured alongside a sleek, jacquard mesh upper featuring strategic zones of support and breathability.

A good shoe but I was disappointed

Last year I bought the New Balance Fresh Foam 860 v11 and it turned out to be one of my favorite shoes ever. So when they started wearing out naturally I went to look for the exact same shoe. Well to my disappointment I could not get the 860 v11 anymore so I decided to purchase the v12. I figured it was just an update to an already great shoe right? No, they changed my shoe! The best part of the V11 was the design of the back/heel of the shoe and they completely changed it. Gone is the comfortable yet supportive foam and instead the heel is hard and stiff. Also the Fresh Foam just seems a little stiffer in these shoes. I would have returned them but honestly I couldn't find a better shoe. A great shoe for overpronation and wide feet!

I was so pleased to discover New Balance as a new option for a running shoe for me. I was previously loyal to another brand for many years, however, over the past year or so, either my foot changed size and/or shape, and/or they changed the structure and design of their shoes to where I can no longer find a size that works for me. Much to my surprise, a shoe salesman in an orthopedic shoe store recommended New Balance (it's the only brand they sell), and he specifically recommended the X860v12 to correct for my overpronation. I was thrilled that this shoe fit me so well and felt great from the get-go without any orthotic inserts, as my previous custom orthotics needed to be replaced, and my health insurance no longer covers them. My only complaint about this shoe is the shoelaces, which repeatedly came undone during my work-outs. It was really annoying to have to keep stopping and re-tying them. I ended up having to switch out the laces for laces from my previous running shoes by a different manufacturer. Not an ideal situation, since I'm very much into color coordination, and the replacement laces don't match. I'm hoping that New Balance will take my review into consideration, and make future versions of this fantastic shoe with better laces that stay in place. Other than that, I'm a totally happy camper, and plan on sticking with this brand.

Unfortunately, the color I wanted (eclipse with vibrant apricot and vibrant pink) didn't come in a wide option. I'm pushing it by wearing the standard fit, but it's serving the purpose. As always, I order a half size larger than my usual shoe size, which is the case for all NB shoes for me. But the 880s are better in a wide on my foot. I'll muddle through for now.The laces they popped on these shoes, though, are WAY too short! Can barely tie them, and they come untied during my workouts due to the trouble. I tried reaching out to CS for help, but had no luck via phone, through the online chat (which is perpetually "offline" for me, it seems), or even through my attempt to reach out on Twitter. Fit smaller than previous versions
20 July 2022

I have been purchasing 860 running sneakers directly from New Balance for several years. Last year I bought the new Fresh Foam 860 and the plastic in the heal area broke on both shoes. I didn't realize why my heals were in great pain when wearing them. I finally took a closer look and found the broken heals. Unfortunately I didn't wear them very much over the past year. Two weeks ago I bought another pair of Fresh Foam 860 running sneakers hoping the previous pair was an isolated incident. This new pair seem small. I bought the same size I always buy, 7.5 US. My big toe hits the end and my feet tingle during and after my cycling workouts. I tried loosening the laces. That didn't change the tingling. Lengthy process

I tried on a pair of new balance at a specialty running store and decided I liked them but didn't like the color offered. This started my process with purchasing direct through new balance. My first problem happened when I wanted to use a visa rewards gift card. I called NB to try to purchase over the phone like I have done with Nike but NB doesn't do this. So I had to purchase a NB gift card with my rewards card to purchase online. I ordered my shoes and received them without problem. In the meantime I saw another color of the same shoe at another specialty store and realized I wanted that color. When I received my NB shoes I tried to take them back to a factory store to get the other color but they didn't even have my shoes in the store. I had to call NB a couple days after I knew my return had been received because I had not received any notification that a refund had been processed. It was then that I got my credit card refunded and a new gift card balance returned. This process has been more of an ordeal than I feel has been necessary and also more than anything I've ever experienced with Nike. The shoes are great... I would have given them 5 stars. It's shopping experience that lowered the score.

My current go-to

OK, close to 40 years of speedwalking here, Athena division, pronator. I've used Saucony (because good fit for wide feet) and Asics (good motion control), both helpful for my heavy heelstrike. Currently, though, this is the shoe that gets the job done. Good rebound cushioning, sturdy medial posting, accepts my orthotic, elastic material in uppers and laces means a glove-like fit. (Be warned that without a shoehorn, I'd never work my foot into even the D width but once on, the fit is perfect.) The only downside is that the outsole and midsole aren't quite as durable as I'm used to, and I killed two pairs under me (alternating use) in about ten months, wearing through outsole and well into midsole, while logging only 15 miles or so a week (still breaking in artificial ... MoreOK, close to 40 years of speedwalking here, Athena division, pronator. If I ramp back up to my typical lifetime mileage I'll have to look for something that doesn't break down as quickly, but all other things being equal, the cross between cushion and stability make these perfect for a pronator who hits the pavement hard. The funky colors are a treat.

Outsole is absolute garbage

I have the men's version of this shoe, and it's been great. I purchased the women's version for my wife because her old sneakers were worn out, and I'd had a good experience with mine. Unfortunately, the quality of the women's version is nowhere near what the men's version is. The outsole on the men's version is rubber along the entirety of the shoe. The outsole on the women's version is rubber on the toes and the very end of the heel. The rest is foam. Very Inconsistent Sizing
24 August 2022

I ordered these in the Libra/pink/orange shade in June for the summer in my usual size 8. They are fabulous! So comfortable and fit well with just the right amount of room in the toe. I ordered the same shoe in the same size in the Eclipse/apricot/pink color two months later for fall and my toes are at the very tip. Same shoe, same size, but completely different fit. So disappointing. I am a die hard NB fan and have worn their sneakers exclusively for at least 20 years now. I am a teacher and pretty much live in sneakers for the comfort and support. This never used to happen. Sizes used to be consistent, even across styles. This is the second time this has happened to me in the past few years. Sizing isn't even consistent in the same style. In essence the shoe wearer will develop cones even if the shoe fits.(upper and outer left and right parts of the shoes, the hard-shell material with the NB logo). Why put such an issolated hard material on an otherwise flexible web by the toe area?Design and comfort on the rest of the shoe is great. In my opinion I would do away with that hard plastic and preserve customer comfort. Does not work for the function of the shoe and not worth continued damage and issues with the toes. Will be returning for a refund.
