I played the original Pokemon Snap back in the day, and this game definitely improves upon most elements. The game itself is gorgeous, seeing all of the Pokemon animated in nature is fascinating. The gameplay itself is solid and much better than the original. My complaint would be repetition. The original game was wicked short and relied on a little bit of replay in order to discover secrets. This game I feel has a little too much in terms of having to replay. You level up each course you visit in order to see more Pokemon or see new animations. This is nice in terms of longevity but sometimes the level up system takes way too long. If you loved the original, you may enjoy this one. Just be prepared to play each course fairly often!

I'll admit, I'm a little newer to Pokemon. I did play this game for the N64 back in the day and that was a fun game! This one starts off very similar. It's fun taking action shots as the camera is moving. Unfortunately, that's where the fun ended for me. It was a little too repetitive having to play the same level time and time again and not advancing to new parts of the board. Eventually I played the same jungle level at night so much that I ejected the game and never went back....only to later turn this in and exchange it for Mario Party Superstars. Long story short - for Pokemon completists only. Fun don't get me wrong...but too slow to want to stick with it.
I didn't play the original Pokemon Snap much but wanted to try this new one after getting back into the series recently. What I found was a fun and well made game that compliments the main series. The game has a number of courses where you have a limited amount of time to take pictures of various Pokemon, with the goal of snapping certain types pictures, often by interacting with the Pokemon. I really like how the courses have different routes and that there are night and day versions of each one that change up which Pokemon you'll see. The game looks great and is very polished, but is best played in short bursts. Also the game is kind of pricey for what it is, although Nintendo has released updates with additional courses that helps with that.
I didn't rush to get this at launch, mostly because over the span of the many years since I played the original Pokemon Snap I'd forgotten what a solid game it was. I knew it was great, but replaying this game gives me this weird sense of being really impressed with just how good this version is, while also dredging up memories of just how fantastic the original was and still is. This game is stellar all-around. I hadn't really appreciated that there hasn't been a single Pokemon Snap game since the N64 version. You could say it speaks volumes to how good the first one was, or you could say Nintendo overlooked a fantastic title for many years. It was worth the wait. Fans of Pokemon have waited years for a true sequel to the original, quirky Snap N64 game, and this Switch sequel does not disappoint, for the most part. It is amazing to see so many true to size Pokemon (over 200 across all 8 generations) in their real life habitats, coexisting and interacting with other Pokemon. Using the camera to take pictures, throwing fluffruit and illumina orbs, scanning, and using the Pokeflute, brings back memories of the N64 game, while still remaining engaging enough for newcomers. For those who are new to pokemon snap or to pokemon in general, it may not feel *quite* as magical as it does to us nostalgia buffs. Taking the nostalgia aspect out of the equasion, the game is like a cartoony, warm and casual safari picture taking game. Being stuck on a one-way track might make it a little "meh" for those looking for something more "open world adventure" but for others the one-way track can bring a feeling of challenge to the game; you've got to react quick when something happens to get that perfect shot! The storyline and characters may make the game seem a little on the childish side, but keep in mind that it *IS* a pokemon game; these aren't lions hunting down gazelle for dinner, they're fun and unusual creatures in a bright and colorful cartoon world.
